"One of the hardest parts about being a suicidal person is that people don't quite understand the despair that you are in to get to the point. There is so much negative talk about the selfishness of the person instead of realizing that this was part of an illness. There is so much incorrect, and inconsistent information spread about suicide and mental illnesses. Our community must do better. All communities must do better. As individuals, we must all do better. No one should believe that they have to be alone or that they should suffer. No one should believe that the world will be better without them. We can help to change this narrative. Since my suicide attempt, I've gotten so much better in addressing the battles I have with my illness, but it's made me so much more aware of how people view and treat people who battle this. It's not attention-seeking when someone needs a little more validation and help to process their scattered thoughts. You don't even have the be the person they talk to, but everyone should be informed on how to get people the assistance they need. Suicide prevention education is out there. Reach out to educate yourself and make sure that mental illness is not something that people feel they must suffer in silence."
