The final season of SCTV was seen only by those who had Superchannel in Canada or Cinemax in the United States.
Compared to its third and fourth seasons seen on CBC in Canada and its fourth and fifth seasons seen on NBC in the United States, its audience was much smaller.
The final season featured several new writers and an expanded cast that included new performers Ron James and John Hemphill and, returning from the first season, Valri Bromfield.
Martin Short gave the season many fantastic impressions and performances, but overall the final season was weaker than previous years.
