After the Revolution, Here is Napoleon

In 1982, the French singer Serge Lama, seized by a burst of creativity set himself the challenge of creating something without really knowing what ... He is, however, certain of one thing : whatever the project, it will tell the story of an important figure in French history !

Without having anything concrete yet, not even a rough draft of a real idea, he will rent the Théâtre du Châtelet, which will be granted to him on the condition that he create a musical !

Casanova was initially considered, but quickly replaced by one of the a most famous emperor : Napoleon Bonaparte

Very enthusiastic Lama wrote about forty preparatory songs !!

Unfortunately due to the prejudice of the time regarding musicals Theater directors all politely declined ( The Théâtre du Châtelet also tore up its contract ) producers were skeptical, and the media mocked his project, perceived as a megalomaniacal fantasy

In 1982, the album intended to present / sell the upcoming show "J'assume tout Napoléon" was released :

To everyone's surprise the album selling like hotcakes !!

Public demand was so high that the show will FINALLY be staged at the Théâtre Marigny in September 1984

To summarize the story :

In 1830, a troupe of penniless actors improvised a play about the life of the former French emperor : Napoleon Bonaparte

His exploits, his love stories, and his mysterious death in exile on a deserted island … told with a lot of improvisation and a sprinkle of dark humor

Ultimately, the show ran for 1500 performances ( Rumor has it that it attracted a million spectators ) throughout France and playing a few dates in Canada

It is also the very first French musical filmed in its entirety !!

This triumphant tour could easily have lasted 10 years !

But Serge Lama stopped the adventure in 1986 for fear of being trapped in this role for the rest of his career ...

Lama LARGELY deny this period of his life until 2014, when he entrusted his creation to Fabien Ramade who revived the show with a stripped-down symphonic version :
