DO ALL FOR THE ARTIST ASKS I'm not even gonna bother going on anon anymore you know it's me
OH MY GOD DUDE!!! This has become a tradition hasn’t it? A continuous challenge, that I will not back down from.
Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital? It depends on how I’m felling, at the moment, traditional because I bought some new art supplies.
How long have you been drawing?Since I could really hold a pencil or texter, quite a while :T
How many classes have you taken? One term of classes, so like 6-7 but they weren’t very good. They didn’t really teach us the fundamentals and I really hated it. We all drew the same stuff by following along as the teacher drew it on really big pieces of paper. I got out of there as soon as the term was up. I really wanted to do pottery though, which never happened cause all the classes were filled up, then I had no time.Though at least I’ve got a A2 drawing of a fat, chocolate loving, cigarette smoking dragon, that’s pretty good.
Do you have a DeviantArt, personal website, or art blog?Yes I do, except for the personal website. I don’t really post on DA anymore but I do post stuff on my artblog and Instagram. I also post some random sketches and stuff on my twitter, which has lately been a lot more active. It has photos of my new haircut and stuff.
What’s your favourite thing to draw?People, faces, mostly expressions, eyes with eyebrows, and mouths.
What’s your least favourite thing to draw?Feet. I can never seem to get them right. And fucking background, like how the fuck?!
How often do you use references?Quite often, like with almost every drawing I’ll use a reference for things like positioning, character design, expression, colour. Stuff like that.
Do you draw professionally, or just for fun?For fun, but there is the rare occurrence where I put things up on Redbubble. But overall it’s just for fun, I love what I do ^w^ And aside from Redbubble, I don’t get paid for it :P
How much time do you spend drawing on an average day?It can range from literally no time, to 12+ hours, depending if I really want to finish a work that I’ve started.
Are you confident about your art?At this moment, yes. I had gotten a extreme amount of confidence from my work by posting it on tumblr and reading all the tags left on my works. Also, looking back on old stuff, even as recent as 2 years ago, and seeing how far I’ve come, really fills me with hope and determination about the future of my art and how much further I could push it.
How many art-related blogs do you follow?A lot, I follow four times as many blogs as I have followers and at least ½-2/3 are art related blogs.
Is it okay for people to ask you about your process?Of course! I recently explained how I did my Gaster Blaster Model on Zbrush to someone not that long ago. I always happy to explain my process :P Though it can be a bit muddled at times.
Do you prefer to keep your art personal, or do you like drawing things for other people?A bot of both, if I feel inspired and really want to thank someone, I would draw something for them. Though usually it’s for my own personal enjoyment.
Do you ever collaborate with others?Yep! ^w^ I’ve only ever really done it once, it took a little while to organise it together as we weren’t online some of the time. But it turned out great!! I loved doing that collab, and would be happy to do something again with anyone and everyone! ^w^
How long does an average piece take you to complete?Ahhh…. A few hours, maybe longer depending on how finicky I am. There’s some stuff that I’ve never gotten around to finishing cause I left it for the night and said ‘fuck it’ the next day. One of my most recent ones for a portfolio in an application took like 8-10 hours or something cause I did something new and then something stuffed up and yeah. But usually it’s about 3.5-6 hours.
Do you draw more today than you did in the past, or do you draw less?I have more time to draw now, but that doesn’t really mean that I’m all that motivated to do it. So, I think I draw less now. I used to fill one sketchbook a year, for like 4 years but now it’s very hard to do so. (Taking in the fact that I do do digital works now though.)Before I had a goal of getting better at drawing digitally, redrawing screen caps of YuGi-Oh! Abridged perfectly in lead pencil, and doing a 20 page graphic novel for school. Now that I’ve improved, don’t really watch the show anymore, and finished it, I have to find other ways to motivate myself. I have a project that I really want to do that I’ve been planning for about a year now, but before I actually start it, I still have a lot more planning and designing to do. D:I’ve been doing some works for that but I don’t want to spoil anything by posting it here, incase I really do end up starting it and people actually read it ^w^ Another factor is that I’m a little scared to draw some things, like different positions, feet and perspective, at the risk that it’ll look terrible, as I’ve improved so much at doing one thing, that I’m terrified that it’s all going to be fucked up because of something new. I’ve also started to try new ways of going about sketching which has also changed how much I draw, cause I still have no idea how to create good movement and shape in an under sketch :T
Do you think you’re justified in giving other people art advice? Not really, all I can really do is tell them what I would maybe do in their situation, or something they could maybe try to help them out. So maybe? I’ve given advice to my friends who continuously bag on their own work because they think it looks terrible. I just tell them about how they could maybe go about improving to one day reach what they want their art to look like. Like just practicing constantly, using references, don’t be so hard on your work and that you shouldn’t compare it to a better artist because in the end, there is always someone out there that is better than you. By your respects or by theirs. Harsh, but I see it as true. I would only give advice that I can back myself up on and on stuff that I’ve tried. It may not be the best, but I just want to help out and see them improve to their greatest potential.
What are you currently trying to improve on?Drawing different body types. I’m not all that good at drawing chests that are not flat. Also folds in clothing, colouring and design.
What is the most difficult thing for you to draw?Feet, hands, muscle and body shapes, expression through body posture, movement. So many things.
What is the easiest thing for you to draw?Eyes, they’re something I’ve always loved to draw.
Do you like to challenge yourself?Rarely, I’m very sceptical and anxious about how the work is going to turn out. On rare occasions that I do challenge myself, it can be amazing or full of shit :T
Are you confident that you’re improving steadily?Yes, I took a design I drew about 6 months ago, to one I drew a month ago and I could see the differences.
Do you draw more fanart, or more original art?At the moment, original art, though barely any of it is posted here because I’m not really sure it’ll be appreciated or anything (Also I’m waiting until I receive the results on the application). That sounds really rude, but I really hate that feeling you get when you’ve worked so hard on something and it goes unnoticed. Just like hours of work and joy, reduced to that crumbling feeling of failure. I know some people will see it, which I am extremely grateful for, but most will not be interested or ask about it. Most of my fanart too has the same response excluding some random artworks.I really want to be known as an artist and I know that at the moment my original art will go unnoticed as I believe it won’t peak my audiences interest due to it not involving their favourite characters or a very specific interest.
Do you feel jealous when you see other people’s art, or inspired? (Be honest!)A little of both. Inspired by how beautiful their works are, how much they have of that kind of work, how consistent, technical and intricate their art is too. But at the same time, I’m jealous of their fame of such works, like random sketches and stuff. I do know that I have not reached that kind of artistic talent like most. I’m also jealous how good they are, how they can create such a beautiful work, how they thought of such a design and layout, their colours and all. I’m intrigued and want to know how they do it/to do it, while also jealous of such talent and recognition.I try not to be jealous as much as I possibly can because jealousy is a harmful thing, especially to an artist, but humans are prone to such a fucked up emotion.I feel like I’m sounding like a little whiny bitch. Sorry about that.
Do you like to draw in silence, or with music?Either to music, or to Let’s Plays. Mostly Let’s Plays though. At the moment it’s Game Grumps, I have watched every one of their videos over the past 6-8 months that I’ve started to rewatch large playlists as I draw. I absolutely love that channel.
For digital artists: what program(s) do you use?Photoshop
For digital artists: how many layers does a typical piece require?A fuck tonne because I have not found a good way to sort or use them.
For traditional artists: what medium do you like most? (Pencil, charcoals, etc)Lots. Pencils, pens, Copics, Paint markers, Poscas, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, and different types of paper. There maybe more, but I’ve forgotten them for now.
For traditional artists: How do you usually start on a big piece? (Light sketch, colored lead, sketchpaper, etc)A almost always a light sketch, I tried doing a small set of thumbnails recently for a charcoal, pencil and posca work I did which helped a lot.
What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?Being complemented on and recognised for my works. To one day have a consistent art style where I can look back at works and be happy with how they look a week or so later. To fulfil my goal of writing/doing a webcomic or a graphic novel that people actually really like. To be able to draw exactly what I picture the artwork will look like in my head. One day being an amazing artist in my own respects.
