We wanted to share this cool initiative involving one of our favorite shark advocates out there, @thelifeofrileynz. New Zealand friends, please read below to learn more about this awesome movement to raise awareness on shark conservation and help break the negative stigma around sharks 😊🦈💙 Photo by @shawnheinrics and #Repost by @thelifeofrileynz   "We all know that films like JAWS generated bad PR for sharks. The truth is, they aren't man eating machines, and in fact, seeing a shark is a sign of a healthy ocean ecosystem.  To celebrate the factual positivity of what shark sighting are, I am stoked to be involved with providing scientific assistance for the @parttimerangers. New Zealanders this summer are encouraged to celebrate shark sightings, by taking photos and tagging #sharkwatch, along with a brief description of when, where and what you think it was. In doing so, we are flipping the script on how sharks have been perceived. I will be going through some of the most interesting ones to determine what we have, and all sightings will be uploaded to the website so we can admire how healthy our oceans are. Make sure you take a picture if you get lucky enough to see a shark this summer, put it on your social and #sharkwatch to help us build a greater understanding of where they are and thus, where we have healthy ecosystems."
