The Lace Code
Before any of you say: “Hey! It’s not the 80s anymore, you punk!”, I know.
The Lace Code was used a lot in the 80s (and after) to determine wether you were talking to a “good” or a “bad” punk, someone who just dressed punk but was conservative, a fash.. you get the memo. Anyway, I thought it was interesting and kind of educational, so here you go. Oh, and remember: None of this is universal. One color can have several meanings. Sometimes the meaning depends on your scene.
White - Every source says the same thing for only white (usually ladder laced) shoelaces: White supremacy. White power. Whatever. This one is pretty clear.
Red - Now this one is trickier. It can mean that you are a neo-nazi or affilate yourself with the national front. However it can ALSO mean that you are a socialist, a communist or a red skin/RASH ( a kind of skinhead) (or you are an anarchist)
Yellow - Since it was one of the default Martens colors for shoelaces, this one is easy. Either it meant nothing, or you’re antifascist/racist. Sometimes it can also mean you’re S.H.A.R.P. (Skin Heads Against Racial Prejudice).
Green - I am.. confused about green. Maybe you like ska, maybe you’re homophobic, maybe you are pro-animal liberation or environmentalist, celtic pride. Though this is the best example for “one color - A lot of meanings”. Personally, I’d interpret green laces as environmentalist or pro-animal liberation, since this would make the most sense color-wise.
purple/pink - GAY RIGHTS!! No, seriously. Usually, purple means you are a lesbian and/or feminist and pink that you’re gay. (Hey, where do I get myself some purple laces??) Oh, and in some circles they can mean you support the decriminalisation of drugs, general allegiance to drug culture or use psychedelics. The overlying theme is Gay Rights though.
Black - Usually the same as yellow, because of the default color thing or you are not politically or generally anything, you just wear boots.
Blue - You killed a cop or you really hate them. Maybe you are straightedge or an anarchist, though I only know it as cop hater.
Now these were the “clear” colors, there are also mixed lace colors, but i only know two.
Black-White - You like ska. (Because of the checkered ska thing. Dunno why.)
Red-Black - You’re an ancom, you’re pro racial unity or two tone. Or, again, ska.
Before i end this post, please note that the colors only have a meaning if you give it to them and you are under no obligation to use this code. (though be careful with the white laces.) This is a fashion thing. Also, if I made mistakes or you know more color meanings or different meanings or more mixed color meanings, please add to this post (because this is interesting)
Have a nice weekend!
