This striking photo shows the shell casings for one day's worth of bombardment by the U.K., at a position somewhere in France, 1916. I reckon that there are 3,000 105mm shell casings in this photo, which for one day's work is a lot. Throughout the course of the war it has been estimated that there were about 1.75 billion artillery shells fired, which makes this pile about .0000001% of the total; another way of looking at this number is that it would take about 580,000 of these piles to equal the 1.75 billion figure.

Roger Desramaux, as they turned in souvenirs from the last war in today's salvage drive. Their father, Mr. Fernand H. Desramaux, 824 Pillette road, found the two shell cases in his backyard, at Ypres, in Belgium, after the British pushed the Germans back in that sector in the last war. The British then fired the shells into the German lines and Gerard and Roger made sure, today, that the shell casings, prized as souvenirs since the last war, will head for some axis target, too.
Un jeune homme grièvement blessé par balle à Arles
Une semaine après l'impressionnant "coup de force" survenu dans le quartier de Griffeuille, à Arles, une nouvelle fusillade a de nouveau éclaté ce soir, dans ce secteur connu pour le trafic de stupéfiants. Mais cette fois, un homme de 20 ans été grièvement blessé par balle, peu avant 22h, rue Winston-Churchill. Découvert en arrêt cardio-respiratoire à l'arrivée des sapeurs-pompiers, le jeune homme a pu être réanimé par le Smur et transporté à l'hôpital dans un état préoccupant.
Dimanche dernier, en milieu de matinée, plusieurs personnes encagoulées avaient déboulé dans le quartier en tirant en l'air, entraînant l'intervention des policiers du Raid. Le commando, qui s'était vraisemblablement livré à une opération d'intimidation à proximité du plan stup - le deuxième en à peine plus d'un mois - avait toutefois réussi a prendre la fuite, laissant derrière lui de nombreux étuis de calibre 9mm.
