Hello shushiyuii! I just wanted to share an Idea for a possible continuation of the "safety from exile" oneshot you made a while ago.
My Idea is that after Ranboo rescued Tommy he now lives with them to hide from Dream. But one day there is an unexpected knock on the door and they both panic so Ranboo noms Tommy to keep him hidden. However it's Tubbo at the door and not Dream like they feared. Ranboo invites Tubbo inside because he can tell that somethings bothering him. So the two(three) of them hang out for awhile and Tubbo slowly opens up about his problems. He admits he's feeling stressed because he's worried about Tommy and that he regrets exiling him. Tommy who was listening in from Ranboo's stomach wants to comfort him so he tells Ranboo to let him out. He does and what follows is a heartfull Clingyduo reunion where they make up followed by benchtrio cuddles. Possibly with Tubbo nomming Tommy to reassure himself that Tommy is safe and back with him. So yeah. That's my Idea. I'd love it if you could write something like that but I understand if you don't want to/don't have the time. I hope you have a nice day
Words: 1,342
Warnings: Mention of death, depression, starving and thirst. Other than that it's mainly hurt/comfort
Notes: I am impulsively writing this at 3am so im sorry for any grammar mistakes. this is the first time i've written in a while, i can't say itll be any good or anything. I don't think this is some return either
But in general regards to an update. Im doing fine and I love this idea btw, im sorry if isn't up to standard.
“N-no…I don’t want… STOP!”, whatever remained of his voice screeched. It felt forced, harsh. When was the last time he had drank anything besides salty sea water? When was the last time he had a proper food source that wasn’t something he could forage?
He lifted the sheets from his side and shivered from the rags that covered his body, despite being probably tucked in. The sudden change in temperature didn’t do his fuzzy head much favors either.
“Fucking…”, he couldn’t finish the ramble. He fiddled with what remained in his pockets for anything but found nothing, no health potion to quell his aching head. Despite that, he stood up. Wiping his eyes from the uneasiness of waking up.
He let out a yawn as he examined his surroundings, they were not all too familiar to him. It didn’t feel natural. The other day he was handling explosions to the body as if it were any normal everyday occurrence. Anything ordinary felt the opposite. Nowhere felt safe anymore.
He knew where he was though, despite everything. A dried and empty sigh passed his lips, devoid of emotion. He was tired, so tired yet he managed. He wasn’t surprised that the emotional backlash was now hitting him.
He turned to a mirror, he’s surprised that Ranboo even kept one in his room. Typically endermen hate the stares of people, including their own reflections. Perhaps Ranboo was immune to its effects.
He was sickly pale, his hair matted so far that he could hardly recall how he used to keep it kept. Whatever remained of his shirt was rotted, the bright red faded and shoulder exposed. His trousers that had stayed with him through war were now barely held together with strings in his opinion, they’d practically turned to shorts.
His eyes… People used to say they were full of ambition, promise… A burning passion that could surpass even the god’s wills, was now hollow and dull. Is this how Theseus felt during his fall?
It mattered not, whatever safety he had was only temporary. Even now, he should be cautious. He would be considered a fugitive.
A knock came from the door, he was quick to alert. The next thing he knew was instinct was taking over him and he hid behind the door frame and grabbed whatever he could to be a weapon, a golden hoe.
It wouldn’t cause much damage but it could certainly knock them to confusion for a short while if hit in the right spots. He readied himself, prepared that it would take his last life. He was always prepared for this, it was what he had been trained for in war.
He was pretty sure Techno taught him that.
Steady breaths, aim…
STRIKE!
An inhumane sound spat out from whoever tried to enter, alerted. They had managed to dodge the boy’s sabotage. The hoe had now struck into the floorboards, whatever strength or adrenaline he used during that swing was all that had remained of his strength as he fell to the ground.
“Tommy!”, the hybrid called out in a hurry, worried. He had no care for his near death, concerns immediately went to his friend. Tommy wiped his brow which had accumulated sweat and looked to Ranboo, deep in his eyes.
He flinched at the sudden eye contact but remained, usually that would trigger an enderman but Ranboo remained still, unmoving.
He hadn’t noticed he wasn’t breathing at all and coughed out whatever was left of his charcoaled lungs. Letting out an old man's cough, he wasn’t even a smoker like Wilbur had been. How fucked were his lungs?
He eventually managed to get his breath back and stood up properly, still winded but having calmed down from his unnecessary reaction. He knew he was in no danger, but his body still reacted that way.
Some things just don't change, do they?
[...]
After the unnecessary scare, Ranboo had brought him to a common room and only now he had realized how big this place was. Wherever he was, it wasn’t familiar in the slightest. It was all new to him.
But even then, he could tell the place was new. The smell of freshly cut oak and lack of decorated pots and chairs or lavish tables, the place was newly constructed. It was probably an estate if he had to guess, Ranboo’s estate.
He had also been given a red sweater, stained with blue. He was told that it was a sweater handed out to guests, but by the faded blue stains. He knew who had come here previously, he shoved down any emotion that threatened his integrity.
Ranboo had also given him a pair of tidy black trousers, although they were a little too big for Tommy, he didn’t mind. It was better than nothing but rags. He missed the feeling of clothes, it felt like some of his barriers had been rebuilt. Ever so slightly.
Across the table was Ranboo, trying to shove some bread in Tommy’s direction. It was neatly sliced but it was only simple plain bread, no butter nor jam. The hybrid said to eat small and soft, due to his starvation.
But he couldn’t help but start craving himself a feast of glorious potatoes, golden apples to quell any aches, the cleanest of water. But the thought also made him sick to his stomach, the thought of food was enough to make him dizzy.
He hated it.
“You’re safe”.
Safety means nothing, not anymore. Safety was Wilbur, Techno, home. All gone, stripped away, abandoned or dead. It wasn’t worth anything to mourn anymore, everything he once had was already gone. Even the last person he’d consider close had tossed him aside in what he’d call hell.
He couldn’t bring himself to respond, only shaking his head.
…
“You’re already in a bad condition. Eat.”, a familiar voice spoke. But it wasn’t the person in front of him, instead it was from straight behind him. The enderian’s ears twitched anxiously before his pupils dilated his relief and what seemed to be happiness.
Though, he wasn’t happy. Far from it. He never wanted to see the face again, at least not now. Before he knew it, he had already thrown a punch to the already scorned face. The boy fell back a step yet remained upwards.
He didn’t have enough strength to put him in the ground, funnily enough.
A blind eye stared back at him, he couldn’t discern any emotion. Since his face had been burnt and scarred from fireworks. It left him blinded in one eye, deaf in an ear. Though, from the body posture, he wasn’t mad in the slightest.
For what reason?
“Ow”, was all he mumbled before turning back to Tommy. His face in concern, no anger. Perhaps even pity.
It only fueled him with more anger.
He pushed the shorter one to the ground, straddling him as he put whatever remained of his strength and fury into beating the one under him, screaming as though he were in a war zone.
Stop.
Stop.
Stop.
Stop.
I'm so sorry.
Just please.
Stop.
None of his punches made any impact, the boy had managed to block them with ease. The first was now cradled gently within his palm.
Stop it.
He gently shoved Tommy off, enough so that he could sit up.
Why?
Pity?
He embraced the boy over the shoulders, attempting to cradle him as though he were a child.
He’s taking advantage…
Why aren’t I mad?
Didn’t I hate him?
His shoulders shook with sobs. Resting against his neck.
“Let it out. Forget about anything else. Let’s just pretend for 5 minutes that things are like they should be.”.
A copy of mellohi started playing quietly and softly.
When had he shrunk? He didn’t know. All he could process was that he was in safety of his friends' scorned hands, promising to keep him safe. Nuzzling and muttering reassurances as he let out the cries of his own.
Ignore this if you don’t want to share it’s all good.
But if Atlantic runaways is being discontinued, I was wondering if we could know what the end of the story was that you had planned? Would really love to know a rough summary for how it all ended.
Again all good if you don’t wanna share, just figured I’d asked ❤️
Thank you for creating such a wonderful fic and all the best in future creative endeavours❤️❤️❤️
LIL BECKYYY!!! No! Anyone is welcome to ask about my aus! I'm more than happy to answer them!
Essentially what was planned was for Tommy and Wilbur to finally escape the facility in Philza's car (Essentially kidnapping Wil dwdjdnajdakda) and after giving Wilbur some culture shock with what a house was, they'd make it to the beach much later on in the chapter will Wilbur finally being free.
As hinted at before, Tommy had been struggling with his inner demons and only wanted his best friend/brother free but didn't want to let him go, thinking that Wilbur would want to reunite with his "real family" (They were gone canonically). Meaning Tommy would be left behind all alone.
He would've cried on the dusty sand and let out his emotions upon seeing Wilbur swimming happily, he was happy too of course. But overwhelmed with his own emotions of guilt as he thought he was being too selfish, especially for crying in that moment.
Wilbur eventually returns to the shoreline and sees Tommy crying, asking whats the matter in concern. Only for Tommy to retaliate with "I'm happy you're free!", whilst sobbing uncontrollably. Wilbur would've known Tommy well at this point on, probably knowing something was on and continued questioning Tommy, to which he would've confessed the truth.
All of which would've resulted in the artwork in the finale with Wilbur comforting Tommy, saying that Tommy was his family and that he wouldn't be leaving, not anytime soon. As it was only the beginning of their adventures. Ending with Wilbur finally being free with his best friend at his side. Both getting their happy endings.
And thank you for reading my stories Becky! It means a lot to me! /Gen
I hope all goes well for you too!
(Also fun fact: Wilbur was originally supposed to fight Ranboo in an original draft of the story. Though it didn't make sense in flow of the story and so it got cut-)
Since I never finished Atlantic runaways and I never ended up posting this as it was supposed to be included with the finale-
Thought it could be a nice treat after so long, it’s at least some sort of finale?
I’m sorry for not finishing anything, but I think it’s clear I’ve moved on at this point but I’m still thankful to everyone I met in this community, the friends I made and all the people I inspired with my badly written stories. Thank you all for supporting me during those times back then- I do miss the old days though- /Gen
Update wise? Doing pretty good with some things sjwwjkwakam
Notes: Hey! It’s been quite a while, hasn’t it? Maybe you’ve forgotten about me, never know but I’ve reappeared from the void for a short while to deliver this!
I’m too sure if I’m going to be returning any time soon, I’m still thinking about a lot of things and I have a lot of things going on personally
Originally the finale was supposed to include all of what was written in this fic and including what else I have planned but I think it’ll be better to drag it out a bit first.
Edit: realised this was part 8- oops-
Warnings: Mentions of soft vore, past traumas of drowning, actual drowning, sobbing, nightmares, neglect, mistreatment, potential mentions of death and one very unreliable narrator. If I’ve missed any please let me know!

“Tommy…”, Wilbur looked down upon him with a solemn expression, his features dull despite the difference in height. He looked ominous, dangerous like how they had first met all those months ago.
After the incident of him nearly dying, Tommy had these recurring nightmares that always plagued his mind. It was quite frightening the first couple of times it had happened, though he grew accustomed to them, always preparing for his demise at the end of the road.
Tommy looked indifferent, neither bothered by Wilbur’s words to attempt to burade him. Though it was different this time around, Wilbur did not seek to intimidate him or scare him. He only stared at him.
“I think you understand what is yet to come.”, the copy looked off to the side as if he seemed saddened, yet no emotions displayed on his face. Tommy let out a breath that had been caught in his throat.
“What do you mean?”, Tommy stood anxiously on his toes, fearful of what could come of this dream, he didn’t want any surprises at the moment. Yet for some reason, guilt rose to his subconscious.
“I believe you know what I am referring to, lower your guard. I will not harm you despite what you believe.”, though he didn’t stand down. But what could he be talking about? He wasn’t entirely sure.
“No, I don’t. Want to explain, bitch?”, he teased. Yet the vision remained in place, no movement or expression shown. Typically, Wilbur would respond with his own remark or call him a child. Nothing.
“You understand that you must confront your emotions, do you not? If not now then your emotions might get the better of you by the time you manage to set foot in the place your dream takes place within.”.
So that was what the vision entailed, so it wasn’t a nightmare. It was another one of the weirder ones.
Tommy looked away from the vision to his bare hands, his vision blurred as his eyes unfocused and his mind corroded his thoughts. As if the sun had just dawned upon him. It was today, and soon everything could change for the better or worse.
The vision moved, its claw-like finger placed under Tommy’s chin, bringing him out of his thoughts. It showed more expression, showing a mask of the Wilbur he knew, copying him with a mask of concern.
He leaned slightly into the claw as it moved to his cheek, he appreciated the comfort despite everything. He wanted to be calm, yet despite being asleep he could feel the adrenaline pumping through his very veins. Already anxious about what was to come.
“I-”, he took a moment to pause. “I know, but- What if big dubs just leaves me? I don’t want to believe he would but-”, he sobbed. “I’m just scared, I guess- What am I supposed to do? I promised to get him out, escape and-”,
He took a moment to pause.
“For some reason, I just want things to stay the way they are. I’m happy, I can see Wilbur whenever and spend time with him, I got a job to support my dad, and I got my best friend. Everything I need-”,
“But that is simply selfish.”, the vision interrupted. Tommy only looked away with a guilty expression, he knew that he was being selfish. He’d never act upon those emotions. After all, Wilbur had been in captivity for so long, day by day he got weaker.
Tommy could tell the mer wasn’t happy just staying there, always putting on a show just to make him smile. He shouldn’t doubt Wilbur, having gone so far as to save his life and continue to care for him.
…
“I just want him to stay…”, he turned back and hugged the finger. Though it only felt hollow of what wasn’t there, he just wanted touch or comfort yet whatever the vision did had no effect to comfort him. He was alone.
“You allow these intrusive thoughts to plague your mind and judgment, and you contort to them as though they are correct.”, Tommy only nodded. He was letting his worries get the better of him.
“Tommy, understand this. You will be just fine, you know it. And if you’re still worried. Simply speak to Wilbur, he will understand”.
And the dream faded away.
[...]
“Boo! Stop hitting me with the fucking shell!”, Tommy let out a groan at the two of them arguing, placing a pillow on top of his head in frustration. Rather than waking up to his best friend cuddled to his side, he woke up to nothing but yelling as the two argued over a game.
The game was Mario kart of all things.
It wasn’t long until their race had concluded, Tubbo celebrated his win with a loud victory screech as Ranboo let out a sigh, third place. He was surprised that Ranboo was good at the game considering he had only been a mer for what he believed was a couple of months.
After celebrating his victory, Tubbo had come to annoy Tommy with his clingy side. Throwing himself onto Tommy’s side as he let out an ‘oomph’ sound before glaring down at his best friend, not entirely thrilled to see him active so early.
“G’morning Big man! You excited for today?”, Tubbo smiled. Tommy nodded with a small smile, indeed excited for the day. As much as he’d appreciate more sleep after recent events, it was better now than never.
He didn’t want Wilbur to suffer any longer than he had to. Picking up his confidence, he sat up and gripped the pillow that had fallen off of his face before plunging it into Tubbo’s face as revenge.
Tubbo was quick to try and repel the attack, only to fail and grasping for aid from Ranboo. Yet Ranboo did not aid him in his time of need, looking with a sick grin as he watched his best friend get attacked, it was revenge for not only Tommy but himself.
His laughed pleas were no use and eventually tuckered out in surrender, taking a moment to get back his breath. Tommy smirked in victory that he shared with Ranboo. Then standing up for the first time, excitement flooded through his head as he turned to his closet to gather some clothing.
His room was still a mess after his expansive research of crumbled notes that filled the room, along with discarded coffee cups and mess across his desk. Though the other two didn’t appear to mind the mess.
It was bright and early, roughly 5 am to be exact. Tommy didn’t quite appreciate being awake at such an early time but it was necessary for the plan. After all, Ranboo couldn’t exactly shift into a giant mer inside of his house.
He picked up his usual shirt, a pair of denim shorts that had a pair of pockets and a pair of bright red sandals. He went to change into the bathroom as the other two went downstairs to join his dad and friends for breakfast.
After changing, he could taste the air that smelt of waffles. He smiled, rushing downstairs to grab a bite as he was quite frankly starving. He was greeted by his dad’s beaming bright smile, who held a plate of waffles topped with whipped cream and strawberries.
Tommy was quick to join at the breakfast table, taking his dish before almost scoffing it down like a wolf. His father let out a hearty laugh as he sipped his cup of coffee, he had told his father of the half-baked plan in the middle of the night and was happy to help.
Yet, his father looked a little tired from the lack of sleep, the coffee to help prepare him for the drive to the beach and work. He felt sorry for his dad, but thankful nonetheless. His father was indeed the best after all.
[...]
Their car was a decent couple of years old, having been around as far as Tommy could remember. It was a comfy car, a dark green one. Tommy listened to the purr of the engine as he leaned against the window.
His father’s gaze focused on the road ahead, in the back Tubbo talked away with Ranboo about the bright weather and potential waves. It was surprisingly sunny out despite it being the early hours of the morning.
They were headed towards a more isolated beach that wasn’t too far from Tommy’s home and the waterpark. And plus, it was a beach that had a lovely view and Tommy spent a lot of time there as a child.
It was rather calming, Tommy could almost sleep if it weren’t for the excitement of what was to come, he was really looking forward to it all. He imagined how Wilbur would react to seeing the outside world, wait-
What would Wilbur even look like as a human? How would he even react to a pair of legs? Would he be able to swim or walk? He’d have to ask Ranboo about it when he retrieved the necklace as Ranboo really only knew the effect of it.
Phil began to slowly ease into the breaks, parking the car to the side as he pulled up the handbrake, he didn’t want to lose the car to slipping down the car after all. The purr of the engine came to a sudden halt.
Tubbo was the first to exit the car, slamming the car door and rushing to the trunk to grab Tommy’s surfboard that was being borrowed. Tommy was the second to exit, taking in a deep breath as he closed his air, taking in the taste of the salty sea.
Though, his moment was interrupted as he could hear something banging from the car door. Turning back to see Ranboo struggling to open the door, pushing his body against it in an attempt to get it open.
Tommy tried to hold back a laugh but a snort escaped him, shaking his head in an almost humiliated way but meant no harm by it. He opened the door for his new friend, only to send him flying to the floor as he fell out the door.
It caused Tommy to burst out laughing, holding his stomach as he laughed his head off. Ranboo was quick to scramble back onto his legs, his cheeks flushed in embarrassment without the protection of his mask.
Tubbo was quick to inspect on the moment, letting out a few giggles in the process. He then gripped Ranboo’s wrist and dragged him towards the shore, Tommy looked back to check on his dad who was smiling and waving at him.
He smiled back and turned back towards the beach, it’d been a while since he’d been here. It hadn’t changed at all during the years, almost as if it were never changing. He reminisced of the memories he held on the very sand he stood on, many memories were made here.
Despite wearing sandals, he could still feel the sand between his toes. The Sun shone brightly as it always had, his bright blonde hair reflecting in the sunlight, making it seem as though it were glowing.
His thoughts went back to Wilbur as he took a step forward, with each step would be a literal step forward in the plan, every step would lead closer to Wilbur’s escape. His slow steady steps on the boiling sand soon turned into a sudden sprint.
Tubbo was always swimming into the ocean with the board, his friend always was the type to be pulled into the sea, sometimes he questioned if Tubbo had more of a connection to the ocean than he did with his mer heritage and all.
Ranboo awaited by the shoreline, the waves flowing under his feet. He swore he could see more mer-like features on Ranboo as he drew closer. His legs were adorned with scales as though they could turn to a tale. He was preparing to shift back.
Ranboo went to reach the back of his neck, but he halted as he saw Tommy continue to run towards him. He was tackled into a hug, Tommy embraced the mer tightly. He was really thankful to Ranboo for all he was doing.
Despite barely knowing Tommy, he was willing to help him and Wilbur with the escape. And he owed a lot to Tubbo too, if it weren’t for him then he and Ranboo would’ve never met. Ranboo wasn’t quite the wrongun’ he assumed him to be.
He would have to repay them for their kindness soon, what would Ranboo and Tubbo even want though? He’d work it out eventually. Tommy then pulled away from the hug with a huge smile on his face.
Ranboo returned the smile, then again reached to unclip the necklace, falling into his palm. He looked back to Tommy as his face went into panic, Tommy was quick to reach out as he went to reassure him but Ranboo quickly retreated into the ocean.
It took Tommy a second to realise that Ranboo did not want to crush Tommy as he turned into a giant, rather stupid of him to attempt to go after him. Soon, Ranboo stood before him or well, gazed down upon him.
He now had the opportunity to see Ranboo closer than he did the other day, he was an orca mer that wasn’t as big as Wilbur but still fairly gigantic. Ranboo’s hair colour had changed to match his tale, though his eyes remained the same.
His cheeks looked as though they were covered by freckles, one side with darker freckles and the other looked white. Ranboo’s gaze looked unfocused as one of his claws laid on his forehead, though he shook his head and turned back to Tommy.
Shifting must’ve had its side effects, he couldn’t imagine changing from a smaller size to a gigantic one, mustn't have been easy. Ranboo looked a bit uneasy, his movements cautious as his claw reached out towards Tommy.
Tommy reached out his hand as the necklace was dropped into his palm. The necklace had a black and white spotted shell, surrounded by pearls. It was quite beautiful. He grasped it gently yet tightly in his hand, this was the very thing that would grant Wilbur his escape.
He placed the necklace in his shorts pocket, smiling at Ranboo as he turned to leave. He was ready, ready to get Wilbur out, the day was finally upon the two of them. Wilbur would finally get his-
“Tommy!- Wait!”, a giant claw gently grasped his waist, halting him in his run back to the car. He turned back to Ranboo who held a worried look on his face as the claw gently let go, letting out a shaky breath Tommy walked back to the same position as he was.
“Sorry about that, but I still got to explain a couple of things. Right?”, Tommy had been so excited that he didn’t even know how the artefact worked in the first place. It was rather stupid of him to wander off like that.
“Okay first things of all, how to use the amulet; The mer in question must be underwater, the shift will happen there. The mer must put on the amulet like they normally would. Also, word of advice, shifting for the first time can be kinda- funky. So be prepared in case Wilbur needs help.”.
“Your friend won’t be adjusted to the change right away, he won’t know how to walk properly with a new set of legs. Also, in case you’re worried. Mer forms come with their own sets of clothing. Anything else you want to ask?”.
Tommy paused to see if he had any questions, but couldn’t seem to think of any as Ranboo had explained clearly enough. It appeared that everything was prepared, he could only hope the plan would go just as smoothly.
“Nah, I’m good. Thank you, Boo. Really, I fucking owe you one. A big one. See you soon Big man! I’ll make sure to bring back the necklace soon!”. Tommy then turned back to the car, rushing to make his way to the car.
[...]
Tommy had prepared everything he could think he’d need for the escape plan, he brought a spare towel to help Wilbur dry off, the amulet, and his phone in case of emergencies, and was really all he needed.
A sigh escaped from his lips, with each minute that passed, he couldn’t help but feel more anxious. Closing his eyes as he leaned back into the car seat, he had no idea as to why he was panicking so much, it was simple enough.
Thinking back to his dream though, would his emotions really get the better of him? He knew that he’d been acting strange but he didn’t believe that it would have such an impact. He concluded it was better to bury the coffin until it was dug up again.
Phil had stopped the car, looking at his son with worried yet tired eyes. His father was also quite nervous as most likely, his son could get caught and endangered. Not only that but he was involved with the entire thing, the literal escape cab.
“Are you alright, mate?”, his father gently placed his hand on Tommy’s shoulder, squeezing it in reassurance. Tommy bit down on his tongue anxiously, not enough pressure to hurt but enough to make himself aware of how anxious he must’ve looked.
“I’m fine Dad, Just a bit nervous y’know?”, his father gave him a soft smile as he pulled Tommy into a hug. It was a bit awkward due to the car seats but Tommy appreciated it nonetheless. After separating, Tommy grabbed onto the car handle and opened the door.
Grabbing his stuff from the trunk. Step by step, he walked into his workplace.
Tommy got ready as he usually would, but in the pocket of his wet suit was the necklace.
He was ready. Though, as much as he’d love to tell Wilbur of the plan as soon as possible. It’d definitely be better as a surprise, he thought.
His sports bag in hand, scanning his keycard to allow him entry to Wilbur’s enclosure. He hesitated for a moment, standing in the doorway as he took a deep breath. Giving himself a moment to get his acting game ready.
“Wilbur! I’m here!”, Tommy called as loud as he could to the mer. Tommy planned to be a little more annoying to the mer than usual. Maybe then Wilbur would catch onto his plans, he’d reveal them either way.
Tommy stood still beside the tiny pool, at least tiny for Wilbur. He waited for about a minute or two yet he got no response from him. He bit his lip as he sat down, looking down into the water for any indication of movement, he didn’t want Wilbur to scare him again.
He waited another couple of minutes, but still nothing. So, he called out again. “Wilbur! Are you there?”, he grew increasingly worried. Was Wilbur okay?
Normally, he would’ve been here by now.
He waited again, but still nothing. His breathing began to grow heavy as his heart rate increased. Worried for the mer. Instead of calling with his voice, he splashed the water as he did in his training, hoping to get a response.
He waited again.
…
Tommy looked down at the water, gulping down nervously. Then, the still water began to sway, and soon Wilbur emerged from the water. There were no splashes of surprise, just the water that dripped from Wilbur resurfacing.
He let down a breath of relief as he stared up at Wilbur. The mer had a soft smile, though his eyes looked groggy as though he had just woken up. “Good morning, Toms- You’re here early, aren’t you?”.
Tommy was quick to reach into his bag and search for his phone, pulling it out to see that it was 8:12 am. His shift had started about 10 minutes ago. “Yeah, it’s one of the early shifts.”, he smirked. Wilbur only nodded his head, letting out a yawn as he barred his sharp teeth.
Tommy rolled his eyes and got up, he made his way to the freezer that held Wilbur’s food supply. Grabbing as much as he could carry and brought it to the mer. “Here’s breakfast, you prick.”, Tommy placed the fish beside him as he sat on the edge of the pool, his feet submerged in the water.
Wilbur leaned himself beside Tommy, looking tired as he laid his head on his scaly arms. He still faced Tommy with the same smile, eyes soft and tired yet they looked happy to see Tommy. He felt comforted, unlike how he did in his dream.
With Wilbur nearby, he leaned onto Wilbur’s arm. Nuzzling it softly as he took in a tired breath. Despite being so excited, he was still tired from waking up very early. He appreciated the warmth that radiated, some comfort after everything.
The two sat still for a moment before Tommy stood up, grabbing the fish and feeding Wilbur like he normally would during his routine, though he made sure to grab more fish than he normally would. He didn’t know what would happen if Wilbur turned human.
During that time, Wilbur had woken up fully and began to speak to Tommy like they normally would, falling into their usual banter. “I really don’t believe you’re 6’3. You’re tiny, one of the smallest humans I’ve ever seen!”.
“Dickhead! Of course, I’m 6’3! You don’t even know how tall that is for humans! You barely see any other humans besides me!”, Tommy stomped his foot in the water, causing a splash like a child would’ve done.
“I’ll have you know I’m-”, he paused. “I think I remember the humans saying I was over 40 feet? Maybe even larger, not too sure though.”, he let out a laugh. Tommy didn’t underestimate that, Wilbur was gigantic after all. He let out a playful scoff.
After the scruffle, Wilbur looked as though he wanted to say something yet seemed to hesitate. His eyes weren’t staring at Tommy directly, too caught up in his own mind. So, Tommy took it upon himself to speak first.
“Wilbur, you okay? You look like you got something to say. Big man.”, Wilbur’s gaze turned back to Tommy as Wilbur licked his lips. For a moment Tommy thought that Wilbur was thinking about storing him, although he wouldn’t mind the idea. But there the plan was still in effect.
“Yeah, yeah- I’m fine. Just, are you okay? You’re acting a little… off? I don’t know just something is telling me somethings wrong and-”, he cut himself off with a shake of his head. His gaze turned to one of concern, “You know, you can talk to me. Right?”.
Tommy’s eyes were soft as his hand went to the pocket of his wet suit. He stood up, amulet in his grip as he met Wilbur’s gaze. The mer looked worried, concern gracing his features. He leaned in closer and looked ready to listen for whatever Tommy had to say.
His lips couldn’t help but go upwards into a cheeky smile, as he spoke the words he’d been preparing to say all morning. “Wilbur… How would you like to finally get out of this hell hole?”. Wilbur’s gaze turned to a shocked expression.
“Tommy, wait- Toms, you don’t mean?”, Wilbur looked dazzled with many different emotions; Shock, relief, happiness, all sorts of things. Tommy could only nod with a smile.
He’d finally be free.

Wilbur stared down at the tiny amulet in his palm, such a small piece of jewellery would allow him his escape, his freedom. He’d waited over a decade for this moment. And finally, his moment had come.
And he had nobody else to thank besides the small human boy who stood beside him. Words couldn’t express how thankful he was, he’d only known Tommy for such a short time, a couple of months at best.
At first, when he met Tommy. There was only distaste as Tommy was simply just another human. He thought that Tommy would be like every other human he had met, some of them weren’t bad per se in Wilbur’s time but some never showed sympathy or just treated him as an animal.
Tommy was the first to treat him like an equal. It took time and Wilbur saving the boy’s life in order to communicate with each other but it worked out in the end. And now, the two of them had grown close.
The young boy had also gone through quite a bit just to get Wilbur his freedom. And now everything was falling into place, access to his freedom was now literally within the palm of his hand. If he could cry, he’d be sobbing with tears of joy.
“Just like that- Wait- Wil? Were you even listening?”, Wilbur snapped out of his daze. His cheeks flushed in embarrassment, he should be paying attention. Though in all honesty, he wanted to chirp happily out loud and reach out for the tiny boy in front of him. He was just really happy.
Tommy didn’t seem to mind though, despite his attempt at an angry glare; The boy let out a cough as he continued. “As I was saying, you basically just put the necklace around your neck and you just shrink and be human, I guess.”, he explained though he sounded uncertain.
His fins flared ever so slightly at the uncertainty. Despite his excitement, he was still a bit fearful of everything. He was nearly grown up by the time he got captured so after a bit of work, he knew he’d handle himself in the ocean just fine.
He remembered how to hunt, he tried to practice it in his small enclosure on occasion. He wondered how different the waters would be in the ocean, what it will feel like to be free in the ocean waves again.
Just, what bothered him was he wouldn’t see his pod ever again. And despite freedom being was he wanted, there was a certain anxiousness that came with the escape. Which couldn’t really be blamed, it was only natural.
Not only that but he was nervous about becoming a human, well he wouldn’t necessarily become a human. But it would be close enough.
Taking a breath of air, he nodded his head to Tommy. He wondered what it’d feel like to be human. To be around the same size as Tommy, would he be taller? Or shorter? What would it feel like to have a pair of legs?
It’d certainly be different nonetheless.
Despite his nervousness, It flooded him with a new kind of excitement. What would it be like to walk around, run with his legs? He’d be able to see Tommy much closer than he used to, they’d be the same size rather than Wilbur being a gigantic predator.
He grasped the necklace in his palm, determined to get the whole transformation progress over with and escape. A part of him was also excited to see Tommy roughly the same size as him, being able to hug him as tight as he wished without worrying about crushing him.
He took a deep breath of the air, despite not needing to do. Submerged in the water, his dry hair was now soaked in the water. He swayed his tail to the side, only for it to collide with the wall. He was really looking forward to escaping from the cramped place.
The amulet in his grip began to glow a dim light, magic sparkling from it. He began to do as Tommy instructed, bringing the amulet towards his neck.
As he did so, bubbles began to surround him. He felt strange, dizzy and tired despite being filled with energy moments ago. The amulet that would’ve never fitted around his neck, was now secured around his neck.
He looked down, no longer his scaly brown tail with white spots. It was replaced by a pair of human legs, he was now human instead of his gigantic mer self. He let out his breath that had been held the entire time.
Only to realise that he couldn’t inhale the surrounding water without his gills. He panicked, flailing his arms and new pair of legs in an attempt to swim, only for the pool to drag him down further.
The water that he once inhaled was now burning at his lungs, he couldn’t breathe despite his lungs begging for him to do so. He was drowning as his vision blurred. His mind wandered to Tommy, is this what the boy felt when he had saved him?
He was in agony.
It felt horrible, the water dragging him into its depths. It was once home, now it sought only to kill him. It was terrifying, and to imagine a gigantic predator in the water. That day he saved Tommy, after all that torment. The boy must’ve been terrified.
He was terrified.
As black spots began to fill his vision, something in the water changed. Despite being “human”, he could still feel the changes in the water. Using some energy to look upwards, he could see the blurry figure of something coming toward him.
He reached out towards it, the figure struggled but eventually, it grabbed his wrist and pulled him upwards. Soon, he emerged to the surface, clinging to the figure that had saved him from the water. He coughed out the water, his throat sore.
The grip on him was a bit weak, yet secure. Wilbur was safe, he let out a sigh of relief. When he opened his eyes, he was met with a soaked Tommy. His eyes widened as he realised that Tommy had been the one to save him as he had done long before.
A smile was brought to his face. Tommy swam with a bit of struggle towards the edge of the pool, Wilbur attempted to help but he was still flimsy with his legs.
Eventually, the two of them managed to pull each other onto the tiled floor of the area rather than the pool.
Wilbur let out a series of coughs as he adjusted, despite having inhaled air before. It felt different, more potent or something along those lines, unusual but not unnatural. His arms attempted to hold him upwards yet felt weak. He assumed it was because of the transformation.
Beside him was Tommy, panting heavily and leaning over the pool. Wilbur felt shaky and nervous, he turned himself so he wasn’t pressuring his arms and sat down as Tommy did and finally looked at his pair of legs.
His legs felt unnatural compared to everything else, he no longer had a tail instead it was like he had two tails (It was the closest comparison he could make). The new joints were unusual to move, and wiggling his toes was also a weird sensation.
He was mesmerised by his new limps, using his arms to lift his leg towards his face to observe it curiously. He attempted to bend his knee with success, letting out a yelp as he did so. It was hard to believe the pair of legs were his, that he was human.
He turned quickly at the sound of laughter, beside him Tommy was staring at him. His mouth was covered by his hand as he attempted to muffle it. Wilbur’s ears felt less sensitive than before, yet now with his new size, he was able to hear Tommy perfectly fine, maybe even louder.
Wilbur’s eyes widened at the realisation, that it was indeed a reality. That he was roughly Tommy’s size which meant… Wilbur pushed himself towards Tommy, clumsily embracing him into a hug.
Tommy let out a yelp as he collided with Wilbur, unable to support his weight as his back fell to the floor. Wilbur was on top of him, embracing him as tightly as possible. Despite laying on the cold wet floor of the facility, the hug wasn’t unbearably uncomfortable.
…
Tommy smiled, adjusting the hug so the two of them sat up. Tommy hugged back as tightly as he could, it felt strange to be able to hug Wilbur like any other human. But he was happy, happy that Wilbur could escape.
Wilbur readjusted the hug for Tommy to lean on his lap, his hands moving from his back to his soaked hair. Wilbur began to play with the wet blonde curls, it felt nice as Tommy leaned more of his weight onto Wilbur, relaxing.
Soon they’d leave, but for now. They just wanted each other’s company.
Phil is high of instincts. So he locks himself in his room since he doesn't want to scare Tommy.
Tommy, not knowing that Phil is high of instincts, checks on him. He goes inside one of his travelling tunnels that leads inside of Phil's room.
Once he enters, he sees Phil sitting on his bed with his hands on his face.
Tommy calls out to Phil, once Phil looks up and locks eyes with Tommy, Tommy sees that Phil's eyes are dilated.
Phil grabs Tommy and starts sniffing him.
Tommy gets weirded out and calls out to Phil again and asking if he is okay.
Phil, now having his instincts taking control, gets Tommy closer to his mouth.
Tommy for some reason stays calm, already having knowledge that giants do this due to instincts (Because both Techno and Wilbur explained it to him), and so he let's Phil nom him.
As soon as Tommy is in Phil's mouth, his tounge starts to lick Tommy, you can either have Phil's tounge move Tommy around while licking him, or have it pin Tommy somewhere around Phil's mouth, or you can do both.
Once Phil deems that he is finished, he swallows Tommy into his safety storage.
When Tommy is in Phil's safety storage, Phil begins to purr, not only Phil can purr, but he purrs loud enough to let someone know that he has someone in his safety storage.
Phil then just goes under his blankets and sleeps, knowing that Tommy is safe in his storage.
Yep yep!

Never go to the surface.
That was what he’d been told as a young borrower, never to leave the safety of the undercity as only dangerous predators laid upon the surface. Anyone who even managed to step onto the surface would be deemed dead the second they left.
Staying in the undercity was the only place of safety, though the city itself was never safe. It wasn’t a proper colony by any means, it was rare that anyone ever stayed in the undercity, only for a couple of years minimum.
Niki, for example, was a kind young lady. She ran a small bakery around the corner to serve delicious baked goods. She’d give him leftovers sometimes. The undercity didn’t deserve her, and she ended up leaving for the surface, never to be seen again.
Now all that remained was the ghost of an abandoned bakery, he swore sometimes he could still smell the fresh goods. When she’d first arrived, she was the first to tell him about the wonders of the outside.
The clear skies with fluffy clouds that tasted like cotton candy, the bright sun that was like a gigantic lightbulb in the sky. Though, Niki said the outside around the undercity wasn’t like the others she had seen.
It was darker, musky and cloudy. It always looked as though it could rain at any moment, where water dripped down from the sky. She talked of the high mountains she’d like to climb, that went high above the clouds.
She said it was meant to feel like you were flying up there. He had always wondered what it meant to fly.
Tommy himself was made to fly with the small avian wings on his back, though according to many others, he’d never be able to fly. His wings were stunted and would most likely only help him glide at most.
He never gave up trying though, after years of practice he could jump across rooftops and jump down safely from higher heights compared to many others. He grew up in the undercity, it was his home despite being on the streets.
Despite his reputation of being a thief, it wasn’t the worst as many knew him to be a kind young boy, arrogant but a kind soul. Normally, he’d only steal in need of survival or to help another borrower in similar circumstances.
That wasn’t the only thing he was known for though, he was known for his dream of leaving the undercity for the surface. Anyday Tommy could simply disappear as another who leaves for the surface to die.
There were many dangers on the surface, flowing waters that do nothing but drag you down into its depths, the uneven terrain that could cause you to slip and fall, or the most known were the harpies.
Harpies were gigantic creatures that roamed the skies, lurking over the undercity in hopes of picking up a borrower for dinner. They looked like humanoid birds, with clawed feet and wings that acted like arms.
They say it happened to Niki, that she was taken by the harpies. He missed Niki a lot. She was one of many to treat him with kindness and guidance, like an older sister. The last time he had seen her was closing time, it was routine for Tommy to help close up the shop.
“So, Niki- I wanted to ask you something.”, Tommy asked in an awkward tone, sweeping the dusty floors from the customers' dirty shoes. Niki leaned over the counter, placing leftovers of the day into paper bags to give out to the scavengers of the undercity to eat.
Tommy was one of them. “What is it?”, she asked with a hum in her tone. She seemed excited for some strange reason, the small smile that hadn’t even left her face despite facing some rude customers that day, she was excited about something. He didn’t know what though.
“How come you want to go to the surface so badly? It’s dangerous-”, he tried to gesture the amount of danger with his hands, only to clumsily drop the broom in the process, causing dust to fly through the air and erase his progress. He only grumbled.
Niki giggled as Tommy went to start again with sweeping, and answered. “Well Tommy, the surface is my home. I lived there long before I came to the undercity. It might be dangerous, but there are many wonderful things out there.”.
Her smile grew even larger, reminiscing on the memories of the surface. Tommy didn’t blame her, he didn’t know much of the surface as she did. It was her home and she’d been out there long before Tommy was, so she’d be okay.
And that was the last time he’d seen her before she left for the surface. He only hoped that she was safe and okay. Though, it also made him wonder. If Niki came from the surface, that other borrowers lived there. Couldn’t he do the same?
[...]
Okay, so perhaps he couldn’t handle himself on the surface. The day he decided to leave behind his home, all that he’d ever known for a dream of being able to see the shining sun was apparently the day he was also going to die.
He dreaded his mistakes, he should’ve known better. He was aware of the dangers yet that stupid sweet talk of Niki’s was enough to persuade him of otherwise. And he took the risk, and now all he wanted was to go back to being a scavenger, where his life was already a struggle.
Even if the undercity was dangerous, it was still home. On the surface, he knew nothing. He didn’t know any escape routes, anybody to call for help or anywhere to hide. He was all alone on the surface.
The moment he saw the harpy shadow, it felt like his heart had fallen out of his chest. He had stood there in shock for a moment before realizing his mistake and running as far as he could.
It wasn’t like being chased by the market guy he’d steal some berries from, it was much more than that. Every bit of distance he gained was only tarnished by a flap of the harpy’s wings. It was just as fast as he was.
The long grassy blades didn’t help in his struggle, only blinding him as he swiped them out of his view, only for more to hit his face. He couldn’t see without much light, the shadow above him barely helped.
He turned around what he believed to be a tree, and the harpy followed. He was running blindly in the woods and at any second the harpy could swoop down and grab him with its sharp claws. He wasn’t safe.
He should’ve listened to the others, the undercity was his home. Never the surface, why did he believe in hope? He shouldn’t- He screamed, not by being grabbed by the hunter’s claws. But by falling.
His feet scrambled to find solid ground, then he only slipped more down the slope. He flapped his wings to try and guide him down, only for it to fail. He landed on his backside, feeling something snap as pain shot up through his spine.
He sat up in an instant, holding back his tears. Covering his mouth to muffle his cries despite wanting to scream in pain, he was sure that he’d broken his wing. He flapped his other wings to check their status.
It was fine, but the second he moved his right wing. He had to muffle another cry, definitely broken. Fucking great. He looked up, attempting to spot the harpy that had been hunting him from the skies.
Only to be met with nothing, only the tree leaves that barely held themselves together. He let out a breath of relief as he had lost his hungry predator. And got up, ignoring his pain in favour of finding shelter for the night.
[...]
Tommy was doing just fine, at least for a while. His wing was still injured but he was able to find some food and a small shelter, it wasn’t much but enough for the time being. And he still hadn’t encountered the harpy that had hunted him down.
He wondered if he had imagined the entire thing, he feared clinging to him as he was completely fine despite his broken wing, he had even survived 2 whole days without even spotting a harpy. Perhaps he was safe.
That was what he wished he could believe before finding said harpy that day, right next to a ledge of a mountain. It wasn’t as high as the others he had seen, compared to the one that Niki had told him about.
But the second he looked down, it was higher than anything he had ever seen, even bigger than the slope that had broken his wing. He was dangerously close to falling, one more step and he’d fall.
The harpy only seemed to coo at him, dangerously looming over him with a look of hunger on his face. It pitied Tommy, inevitable of his fate. It had been 2 days since he’d seen the harpy, no doubt it’d be hungry.
Tommy only closed his eyes, he’d rather fall than become some demon’s food. He took a step back and the solid ground left from under his feet. His survival instincts kicked in, flaring open his wings in hopes of gliding softly to the ground.
It only caused panic as he let out a hoarse scream, unbearable pain as tears fled from his eyes, only to leave his face due to the gravity. It was only then Tommy realized what he’d done, sealing his fate.
In fear, he attempted to cling onto anything nearby. It only failed, nothing to slow his fall. He looked up, only to see the harpy’s claw approaching him. There was no way of fleeing the creature now, he was as good as dead.
“Fuck off!”, he screamed. Despite it doing nothing to stop his fall nor the harpy’s attempt at grabbing him. He wondered how long it’d take him to hit the ground, anything to not be caught by the dangerous creature that had dove after him.
It felt like it was taking a million years, is this what had happened to Niki? He questioned as he closed his eyes, feeling something solid around him that stopped his fall. It wasn’t the ground as he felt a sharp nail dig into his back, it was the harpies claw.
It was then he realized how tired he was, black dots in his vision. He wanted to fight, squirm out of the harpy’s claws. He could only push against the grip before giving up. He swore he could’ve heard the harpy coo at him yet again.
[...]
And that was the story of how he had met his family!
It turned out the harpy had been hunting him, trying to eat him. Was actually only trying to help him, but he had kept running. Like an fucking idiot.
After he had lost consciousness, the harpy had taken him back to its home or ‘nest’ as they said. The harpies consisted of 3, not including him. Wilbur was the youngest harpy, he and Tommy managed to get along well enough, to a point where they considered themselves brothers before Tommy had joined the family.
There was Techno, the intimidating one. Techno was known for his intimidation and lack of trust for others, but eventually, he opened up as Tommy joined the family. Then there was the one harpy who had hunted him down for days.
Phil, the one who had been worried about him for days after Phil had lost him. According to Wilbur, he panicked to all hell knowing there was a tiny fledgling roaming the dangerous woods. It was funny to think about now that he was familiar with everyone.
The family had taken him in and treated his wing, it took a while for Tommy to trust them. Sometimes they still scare him but he still considers them family, after all besides Niki, they were the only family he’d ever known.
Speaking of Niki, it turned out she was a friend of Wilbur's. Who assured him that she was just fine, that she had started a new bakery in a nearby colony and could visit anytime he wished, and it was wonderful to see his older sister again.
His wing was fully recovered as well, able to glide around like he used to. His family had even tried teaching him to fly; it worked a bit. He could fly a few inches above the ground before he was too heavy for his wings to handle.
The undercity used to be his home, but now he had a new one. One with people who cared about him took care of him and loved him. The first time he had gotten a hug from the entire family was a day he’d never forget.
He’d noticed something in particular lately though, something strange. Phil had been acting a bit off the past couple of days. Every time he’d look at Tommy, his eyes would dilate with a peculiar look on his face before shaking his head and replacing it with an uneasy smile.
He had asked Wilbur and Techno about the entire thing, they assured him that Phil would be fine and get over it, and told him not to worry about the entire thing but it didn’t do much to quell his worries.
He wanted to see for himself.
The door to Phil’s room had remained locked a majority of the time, but Tommy had learnt a couple of tricks when living with the harpies. He was able to make tools using clips and pins which helped a lot when exploring the house-cave thing.
Not only that but some tunnels were sprawled out all across the cave, meaning he could enter almost every room without needing to open a door. So, he could check up on Phil at any moment.
He traversed through the tunnels for a while before eventually stumbling upon Phil’s room. Inside lay Phil, sprawled on his bed, surrounded by all forms of comfortable bedding. Though, he didn’t appear comfortable.
He looked restless as he rolled back and forth, his hands covering his face rather tightly, his claws that almost looked to be digging into his face. Phil definitely wasn’t doing too good by Tommy’s means.
He wanted to help.
“Phil?”, he called out to his father. Phil had sat up in an instant, his eyes scanning for Tommy before landing on him. He sat there, eyes dilated for a moment. Before snapping himself off a trance, getting out of bed to stand up.
“Tommy, mate. You shouldn’t be in here, didn’t Wilbur or Techno tell you otherwise?”, he gently scooped up Tommy into one of his claws before turning the other to open the door.
“Phil! Wait- I- I’m sorry- I was just worried. You’ve been acting strangely for days now and Wilbur or Techno won’t answer me when I ask, I had to check on you for myself.”, he held onto what he believed to be his father’s equivalent of a thumb.
Phil let out a coo, before bringing Tommy close to his face. He reached out for Phil’s nose like he usually did, a form of a hug due to the difference in size. He leaned in and nuzzled his father’s nose, hoping for comfort.
He received comfort, yet Phil had begun to sniff him. It wasn’t unusual for the harpy to do so but he seemed to be sniffing Tommy much more than he usually would’ve. He found it rather weird, deciding to question his father about it.
“Phil, you okay there buddy?”, he received no response from his father. Phil only pulled him away from his nose, confused Tommy attempted to question his father again, much louder than before.
Phil had brought him closer towards his mouth, which wasn’t that unusual either as his family would give him kisses goodnight at times. Though, it wasn’t a kiss. Phil was drooling, barely able to contain the saliva in his mouth.
He panicked for a second, thinking Phil had decided to eat him. Which wasn’t entirely incorrect but it wasn’t in the same way he’d believed it to be. Typically, Harpies had small pouches for transporting young or keeping them safe from danger.
It was also a thing that harpies could occasionally store young as forms of bonding, Wilbur had told him about it before. It was then he realized that Phil had been attempting to avoid his instincts.
After the whole incident in which the two met, the fear of being eaten. It wasn’t a light topic for a while until Wilbur had explained it to him, now understanding it was natural for a harpy to protect their young.
Phil had been attempting not to scare him as he did all that time ago, which only flooded him with guilt. The harpy had given him a light lick before pulling away, shock in his eyes as if he’d done something horrible.
“Oh lord prime- Toms- I’m so sorry”, he began to profusely apologize. He had gently wiped off the saliva as he apologized, Tommy attempted to grab his attention and calm him but his father was far too panicked.
Phil had brought him back towards his face, where he seemed to be struggling to hold himself together at that point. Only then did he have his father’s attention, “Dad!- It’s fine! Really! Wilbur told me about this sort of thing! It’s fine!”.
His father had a questionable look on his face before turning to relief, after that he wasn't too keen on holding back on his instincts. He only let out a sigh of relief before his father licked him again.
It certainly felt strange being covered in saliva, but it wasn’t inheritably uncomfortable by any means. It was then Phil parted his jaws, sharp fangs on display that could easily chomp on him. But he only relaxed, allowing Phil to gently place him on his tongue.
He remained motionless, kind of shocked that he was indeed on his father’s tongue before relaxing, knowing he was safe. He relaxed on the tongue before Phil began to lick at him again. He couldn’t help but let out a laugh as it tickled him.
Now coated in saliva, Phil pinned him to the top of his mouth and swallowed the remaining saliva in his mouth. Tommy was unpinned from the top of Phil’s mouth as his father tilted back his head.
And swallowed.
His throat was tight, he was barely able to move as his wings were pinned against his back. As he descended, he felt an oncoming headache as he passed by the beating of his father’s heart. And eventually, he fell into a much more open space.
He stilled for a moment, before snapping out of his trance as the pouch had begun to push against him, hearing his father coo at him worriedly. “I’m okay! Don’t worry!”, he pressured eased slightly but remained as it turned to a rubbing motion against him.
He leaned into it as he realized his father was attempting to soothe him, only for the pouch to begin to vibrate. Hearing his father purr, he relaxed and leaned closer to his father's hand as he drifted off into sleep.
Phil’s purrs only continued as he went back to bed, covered in blankets as his hands laid protectively over his stomach for his small fledgeling.

“This is absolute bullshit!”, he yelled as he faceplanted into the desk below. Groaning tirelessly, he turned to the nearby cup of coffee that lay on the desk. It was believed to be his fifth cup at this point throughout the night, though he had probably had more.
He gulped down the entire cup, only causing his head to pound as his headache worsened. Everything had become a mess overnight with the amount of research he had been attempting to do.
Pages had been torn and tossed to the floor as Tommy deemed them irrelevant. At this point in time, Tommy had read the entire book at least two or maybe even three times, he couldn’t remember.
‘The relic to turn the tides’, otherwise known as the piece of shit necklace. Tommy spent so long looking into every inch of detail in the words of the book. Only to find nothing.
Notably, though, the artefact was known for its use for “befriending” humans and then luring them into the sea to only betray them and eat them. Pretty terrifying to ask if you were to ask for his opinion, but cool to know anyways.
Besides that, the book also noted that the artefact was ancient in mer history. Which would mean a lot considering the book itself was yellowing at the edges, the pages worn and torn in some places. He could only sigh in annoyance.
The notebook with his “notes” only really had possible theories on possible locations of the artefact and then again, those were based on what Tommy knew (which was practically nothing). To say the least, Tommy felt hopeless.
He had only just found a possible lead, and yet there was absolutely nothing. Even the pointless queries on google didn’t even help. What would Wilbur say? Wouldn’t he be devastated at the possibility of no escape? Tommy couldn’t let that happen, no matter the cost.
Tommy jumped in his seat as the alarm on his phone buzzed to life. He quickly went to investigate as to why; Bringing the blinding light towards his face. Only to find out that it was 6:31 in the morning, which meant he had work.
Tommy forgot it was a work night, didn’t he? Well, wasn’t Tommy a genius staying up all night on a work night of all things! Just had to add salt into the mixture, didn’t they? How was Tommy even supposed to deal with everything currently?
Tommy desperately needed that artefact; he couldn’t let Wilbur down. But what could he do in the meantime? Scuba diving in the afternoon every day until he found one, and use a metal detector on the beach?
No, those wouldn’t work (the second one at least). The best thing he could possibly do was check out every thrift store and antique store he stumbled upon in the meantime. That was the plan anyway.
He stood up from his chair, feeling his bones pop back into place after so long of sitting down and the tension of his shoulders easing. It almost felt like a relief, he definitely wasn’t staying up all night like that again for a while.
Leaving his bedroom towards the bathroom, turned on the lights and looked at himself in the mirror for what felt like forever. To say the least, he wasn’t entirely pleased to see the bags under his eyes and messy hair.
Wilbur would definitely be worried once he saw Tommy. He sighed, shaking his head as he turned on the cold water of the tap, using it to freshen himself up. It was going to be a very long day.
{…}
“Order for Tommy!”, the barista called. Tommy sighed as he approached the counter, finally able to get another intake of caffeine with a less likely chance of falling asleep on the railway. Though he couldn’t help but sympathise with the barista, the poor guy sounded as tired as Tommy.
He thanked the guy for his drink, leaving some change in the tip jar as he walked towards the exit. He just simply had to head to work as normal, nothing bad could possibly go wrong, after all-
“Oh! Apologises fellow human! - I mean person! Sorry!”, the individual put his hands in surrender after stabling Tommy’s balance. Tommy groaned as he rubbed his head from almost colliding with the person, he really couldn’t handle anything at this time of morning.
“It’s okay, just try to be careful next time.”, Tommy reassured the now very suspicious-looking individual. Said individual was wearing a Hawaiian shirt at 8 am with a mask and sunglasses. Honestly though, who wore those kinds of clothes at this time in the morning?
Wait, did he say human or something? He couldn’t remember. Too tired.
“Ranboo! Stop taking advantage of your long legs! You know I can’t run as fast!”, that was a strangely familiar voice… Was that Tubbo?
Said best friend then appeared from around the corner of the building, looking as piper as always. Dressing much more casually compared to his fellow companion, Ranboo was it? Tubbo shared an annoyed glance at Ranboo.
Which then turned into a smile as he turned to look at Tommy.
“Tommy! Hey!”, he greeted Tommy with a hug. Typically, Tubbo wasn’t quite the morning person, quite the opposite. So, count Tommy’s surprise when he saw his best friend awake and happy at 8 am.
“Hey Tubbso”, his voice wasn’t as enthusiastic as it normally would be. And so, he ruffled the shorter one’s hair. Though, it didn’t take long for his best friend to immediately notice what was up.
“You look like shit, what’s up?”, Tubbo asked as he titled his head in concern. Tommy was quick to put up his one hand in surrender. Tubbo’s expression narrowed as he leaned in a bit closer to Tommy’s personal space.
“It’s nothing! Just stayed up all night- for some reason I can’t really say in front of people”, Tommy winked in hopes of Tubbo getting the hint. It took a second as Tubbo became confused before he realised what Tommy was hinting at, nodding in understanding.
The stranger beside them then brought up a finger to question what was going on between the two, only to gain a very tired and annoying glare from Tommy. Only for Tubbo to intervene as he spoke.
“Tommy, this is Ranboo. Ranboo meet Tommy, my best friend! Tommy, please don’t kill Ranboo.”, Tubbo warned Tommy as he was aware of what the boy could do… Ranboo looked as though he was about to question the warning…
Only for Tommy to realise that he was going to be late.
“Shit, I’m gonna be running late for work! I’ll see you guys later!”, Tommy quickly ended the conversation before running full speed ahead towards the train station.
{…}
Gripping the train pole, he couldn’t help but feel frustrated at public transportation. All other seats had been occupied by other passengers, leaving a very tired Tommy to try and keep up his balance as the train zoomed down the railway.
Maybe he should’ve just asked his father for a ride? But then again, his father had already done so much for him lately, that he didn’t want to annoy him even further (even if his father wouldn’t even mind).
His anxiousness grew with the passing second as he grew closer to the waterpark. He was definitely looking forward to seeing Wilbur again, but then the other day how he treated Wilbur was getting on his nerves.
He was far too selfish that day, pushing Wilbur away like that. Though, he couldn’t help but also feel suspicious of himself; it felt as though two sides of himself were conflicting for whatever reason. It felt odd and confusing.
Which Tommy could only conclude was probably his mer side or something? Ever since he had met Wilbur, a lot of things had changed for Tommy during that time. His emotions to be more specific.
Maybe being around another mer was making him behave much more like a mer?
“Next stop, L’manburg Waterpark”, it appeared it wouldn’t be too long until he arrived to work and had to face the inevitable.
It really didn’t help that Wilbur didn’t really believe Tommy either, simply putting aside his concerns to not agitate himself further. He took another sip of his coffee, only to find that the cup was nearly empty.
Groaning in annoyance, it was going to take up a lot of energy to keep up his usual attitude. As long as Wilbur didn’t get even more worried about him.
The bus came to a sudden halt, causing Tommy to scream as he fell to the ground. Before quickly standing up and getting off the bus, thanking the driver in the process. Maybe he should apologise to Wilbur?
{…}
Closing the enclosure door with a sigh, it was finally time to see Wilbur again. Although anxious, he couldn’t help but feel his excitement build-up at seeing his brother- best friend. Best friend.
As he turned around, only the still water greeted him. Strange, he’s pretty sure he told Wilbur that he was working today, didn’t he? Or was the mer simply still sleeping? That was the more likely solution, Wilbur did prefer to stay underneath the water.
He stepped towards the pool, kneeling as he tried to look down into the depths of the water, hoping to see any sort of shadow from the mer below.
Only for the water to come flying over him. One second, he was dry, the next he was completely drenched in water. He coughed out some water that had gotten caught in his throat, opening his eyes to catch the sight of a brown tail dipping into the water.
Of course, Wilbur had been the one to drench him in water first thing in the morning.
“Wilbur! What the fuck man!”, he cursed out loud. Tommy then dipped his feet into the freezing cold water, how did Wilbur even sleep in there? Speaking of the devil, the mer then emerged from the surface, making his grand entrance.
“Good morning, Toms! Did I scare you?”, the mer smirked as he leaned in closer towards Tommy, casually leaning his elbow to the side. His sharp fangs were on full display with a mischievous grin, what did Wilbur have planned this time?
“Not really, it’s not the first time you’ve done it”, Tommy scoffed playfully. Things were surprisingly okay thus far; it seems Tommy’s act was actually working quite a bit. Wilbur only hissed playfully in response.
“Yeah, okay then. Now hand over the food, gremlin. I’m hungry.”. Tommy rolled his eyes, before standing up and going towards the locker that usually contained a bunch of fish for Wilbur. Finding quite a bit of fish, he picked up what he could in a bucket and brought it to Wilbur.
Wilbur opened up his mouth like routine, his tongue drawing close to Tommy. He couldn’t help but feel a small amount of anxiousness run down his back as he thought he could’ve been eaten for a second.
Tommy sat down on the tiled floor, grabbing a few fish from the bucket and placing it in Wilbur’s mouth. Wilbur’s mouth suddenly snapped shut, causing Tommy to yelp and flinch back by accident. He wasn’t expecting himself to flinch like that.
Wilbur’s expression was quick to turn to one of concern, bringing a claw to shelter Tommy from the outside world as he leaned in closer (It reminded him of when Wilbur had comforted him after the other incident).
He looked as though he was about to speak before his eyes narrowed as he looked over Tommy suspiciously. Tommy’s nerves could be felt crawling up his back as he tried to avoid Wilbur’s concerned look.
“Toms, why do your eyes look so different? Is everything okay? Are you sick?”, Wilbur panicked. Tommy sighed as he put his hands up in surrender, leaning into Wilbur’s touch whilst doing so.
“Sorry Wil, I just stayed up all night. Nothing to worry about!”, Tommy was quick to reassure Wilbur, but he didn’t look too convinced.
“Are you sure there’s nothing’s wrong?”, the guilt from the other day returned. Tommy was quick to try and respond but ultimately came out with nothing. A moment of awkward silence was shared between the two.
“I’m sorry Wil, It’s fine. I’ve just been really worried about the escape plan, if anything were to go wrong or something- I couldn’t- “, Tommy was quick to hold back his own tears. Wilbur was quick to scoop up the boy in his claws.
His clawed thumb was brought towards his cheek, rubbing it soothingly. Tommy made eye contact with Wilbur, meeting his own guilty glance.
“Oh- Little pup… Listen, as much as I’d love to leave this place. I don’t want you to overwork yourself so much, you’re already doing so much for me, and I couldn’t thank you enough. So please, don’t stress yourself out over it, okay?”.
Tommy only responded with a nod, though he made sure Wilbur was able to see the smile on his face. Wilbur was quick to return it with his own shoulder, ruffling Tommy’s hair in the process. Tommy relaxed into the touch, letting out a yawn in the process.
“Sleepy, little pup?”, Wilbur whispered with a hint of tease as he noticed the boy’s eyes droop ever so slightly. The boy responded with a yawn, too tired to give a cohesive response. Wilbur was quick to gently bring the boy closer to his mouth.
Carefully bringing out his tongue to not alert Tommy again (he didn’t want the boy to flinch again), nudging the boy onto it. Tommy finally seemed to realise what the going on as he sat up onto Wilbur’s claw.
“Wil? What are you-“, he cut himself off when he noticed what Wilbur had been attempting to do. Rolling his tired eyes, he reluctantly allowed Wilbur to continue as he leaned back onto the tongue. A grin grew on Wilbur’s face.
Tommy was gently placed onto Wilbur’s tongue as he was brought into his mouth, a couple of licks to prep Tommy for the way down. It wasn’t long until Wilbur had swallowed and stored Tommy in his brooding pouch.
Wilbur brought a hand over his stomach as he felt Tommy leaning into the pouch’s walls, chirping happily. He then dove back into the water.
Before Tommy completely slipped into sleep mode, a buzz from his phone snapped him awake. Quickly bringing out his phone, he read the text message from Tubbo.
‘Hey, big man! Want to hang out with Ranboo and me tomorow?’.
‘Yeah, but why do we have to bring Ranboob?’, Tommy responded. He didn’t quite want a stranger, much less a very suspicious one to come along with them.
‘If Ranboo doesn’t come, then I won’t go’.
‘Fine’, Tommy responded with reluctance as he leaned in closer to the wall. Wilbur was quick to respond with some rubs, Tommy then soon fell asleep.
{…}
“Thanks for the ride, Dad!”, Tommy stretched as he promptly exited the car. His father soon exited the car to join him, looking cheerful whilst also having a somewhat worried glance on his face.
“No problem, mate. You okay after yesterday though?”, his father ruffled his hair. He had told his father everything after he came to pick him up late yesterday. Tommy nodded with a smile to assure his father.
After spending the night with Wilbur, a fair amount of weight had been lifted from his shoulders after Wilbur’s reassurances. And now, he felt as though the plan could be taken a bit lighter, as he had been a bit extreme, to begin with.
Just for now, it was time to have fun as Tommy spotted his friend and suspicious associate known as Ranboob. He wasn’t sure whether he could trust the guy, perhaps today would be the day he could prove himself.
“You’ll be sleeping at Tubbo’s tonight, right?”, that was the arrangement. Hang around town for a while and then head home to Tubbo’s for the night.
“Yep! I’ll see you around, alright Dadza?”, his father couldn’t help but laugh at the nickname, giving a reassuring smile before turning back to the car. He waved as his father drove out of the parking lot.
Then Tommy turned around towards his companions and walked towards them.
“Hey, Tubbo! Hi, Ranboob? Was it?”, Tommy greeted with much more energy than the last time they had encountered. Tubbo simply shook his head in disapproval, annoyed at Tommy’s attempts of harassing Ranboo.
“Hey, Tommy! And it’s Ranboo by the way, not Ranboob”, Tommy only grinned playfully in response. Tubbo could only sigh, it was going to be a long day. A very long day if he was going to have to deal with Tommy acting like this
{…}
“What’s that?”, Ranboo gestured towards a display of socks within a clothes shop. He appeared to be pointing towards a specific pair of fluffy socks, one a bright neon orange, the other a bright green. An odd combination to say the least.
Ranboo looked as if he was in love with the pair of socks. All the while Tubbo looked as though he was pale as a ghost. Tommy could look at Ranboo in pure confusion, confused at the fact that he seemed to be in such awe that he questioned the existence of a pair of socks.
Ranboo looked back towards them in excitement, before turning to realisation as he looked towards Tubbo. Who had a look of ‘we need to talk’ as Tubbo quickly grabbed Ranboo’s hand and dragged him around the corner.
“Be right back, Tommy!”. That was odd.
It wasn’t long before the two of them returned and dragged Tommy into the clothing shop, buying him the pair of socks he wanted. He was quick to change into his pair of socks. Tommy had to admit that Ranboo had a really weird clothing style.
But at the same time, it’s also funny.
The three soon exited the shop and walked along the street, it wasn’t long before Tubbo found a shop he was interested in. Leaving Ranboo and Tommy alone together, in quite a bit of awkwardness.
It was then Tommy spotted an antique shop and dragged Ranboo along with him inside, because if he didn’t, Tubbo would definitely kill him. Ranboo looked confused to be in the antique shop, looking at all sorts of cups, plates and other things.
“Hey Tommy, what are we doing here?”, Ranboo asked as he picked up a fancy looking vase. But Tommy wasn’t paying attention, only searching the displays for the artefact. But as he looked further, nothing was resembling what he saw in the book.
Tommy frowned and let out a sigh of annoyance, Ranboo joined at his side in concern, gently placing a hand on Tommy’s shoulder. Tommy was quick to jump and look at Ranboo with a glare as he went to shout, but he was cut off by Ranboo.
“You okay? Were you looking for something? You look disappointed-“, Ranboo expressed his concerns. Well, that was nice of Ranboo. The entire time that they had been here, he had only been treating Ranboo like shit, but Ranboo was still being nice.
Maybe Ranboo wasn’t as bad as Tommy thought he was. Wait, how was he supposed to respond? Tell Ranboo he needed an ancient mer artefact? He hadn’t even told Tubbo he needed the necklace in the first place!
“Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks for the concern, Ranboo but I just lost something. It got stolen a little while ago, thought I might’ve found it here, so it was worth a try…”, Although a lie, it still held genuine emotion as he was disappointed, there wasn’t an artefact.
But what was he expecting? It was certainly rare after all.
“Oh, I’m sorry it’s not here. And hey! You called me Ranboo! That’s a first”, Tommy was quick to retaliate, spitting out playful insults as they left the store. Only to encounter Tubbo waiting outside for them, with a smile on his face.
“Are you guys finally getting along?”.
{…}
The day went by fairly quickly after that. Ranboo was still quite an oddball, but Tommy was getting used to it at this point. The three of them had some food, caused a bit of chaos like usual and were ready to head home at this point.
It was time to head home as the light skies had turned dark. The streets were unnaturally quiet as everyone had left for the day and all the stores were closed. The three boys waited for the bus to arrive but would be some time before it came.
Tommy and Tubbo kept up a casual conversation to fill up the silence, although Ranboo seemed to be on edge about something. Looking around frantically in what seemed to be a panic.
“Hey Ranboo, everything alright?”, Tommy playfully nudged Ranboo’s shoulder. Ranboo was quick to react as he was quick to grab Tommy’s arm in a tight grip, before quickly letting go with an apology.
“Sorry, just something feels off…”. And it appeared that Ranboo’s suspicions were right…
Because as soon as Ranboo and Tommy were to turn a blind eye to Tubbo, some guy had come up from behind them and grabbed Tubbo. Tubbo was quick to scream as he was taken off his feet and held in a tight grip…
Tubbo screamed as he squirmed in the man’s grip, the man attempted to stop Tubbo’s yells by harshly covering his mouth. But Tubbo’s movements caused the man to fail in his attempts, and ultimately resulted in him getting punched in the face…
“Tubbo!”, Tommy called out for him. But Tubbo didn’t respond as he laid limply in the man’s grip, he had been knocked out. In anger, Tommy was quick to run toward the man in Tubbo’s defence, raising his fist as he aimed for his face…
But it appeared the man wasn’t alone as another person appeared from behind Tommy, socking Tommy in the cheek. Tommy collided with the floor, only to be met by a kick to the stomach as the pain quickly rose to his chest…
Tommy wasn’t going to easily give up though, getting up for Tubbo’s defence. But the guy that had taken him down quickly grabbed him as he was too slow to dodge, rendering him practically useless…
Tommy squirmed in the tight hold, but it was no use as he was no match for the guy…
“Ranboo! Behind you!”, Tommy was quick to warn him of the impending danger. Another guy tried to grab Ranboo but luckily, Ranboo was able to dodge as he stumbled onto the floor. Ranboo panickily looked around before his eyes settled on Tubbo.
Ranboo’s panicked face becomes unclear as he stares down Tubbo… Before his expression turned to one of rage… Another guy was about to attack him, but a loud growl caught the guy off guard, causing him to hesitate.
That was enough of an opportunity for Ranboo’s hand that had now turned into a sharp claw and swing at the guy in a fury, the guy screamed as he dodged Ranboo’s attack.
“Quickly! Take him down!”, the guy that held Tubbo yelled out. Ranboo only hissed in response, falling to the ground as his legs morphed into a gigantic tail. Tommy fell to the floor as the guy let Tommy go out of fear.
But Tommy couldn’t help but stare at Ranboo as he was no longer human, he was a mer. Although on land, he swiftly manoeuvred his tail to shelter Tubbo’s unconscious body. Hissing furiously at anyone who approached them.
He wasn’t as big as Wilbur, much smaller than him, about three to four times bigger than Tommy. Still fairly large though. And the men finally seemed caught up as they all panicked, realising it was a dangerous mer in front of them.
They all screamed and ran away like pussies.
After all the men disappeared, Ranboo was quick to scoop up Tubbo; Scanning over him like a frantic mother, chirping worriedly as he looked around for injury. After only finding a bruise on his forehead and seeing him breathing, Ranboo finally calmed down.
Tommy was quick to snap out of his trance, quickly running towards the two to check up on Tubbo himself.
“Holy shit! Tubbo! Ranboo! Are you both okay?”, he soon joined their side. The silts of Ranboo’s eyes narrowed in alert for a moment before realising it was just Tommy, his friend. Ranboo was quick to check over Tommy himself.
“I’m fine, Tubbo is too. Are you okay though? You don’t look too good”, Tommy was quick to give a reassuring smile. Before his eyes turned to shock in realisation at the fact that Ranboo was a mer right in front of him.
And he wore a necklace, it was the artefact. He’d have to talk to Ranboo about the artefact later. Though it seemed Ranboo had just realised that he had just revealed to Tommy that he was a mer.
“Also, I can explain everything-“, Ranboo despite being a giant mer, was acting as though he was in his human form. He was as anxious as always.
“It’s fine Ranboo, we’ll talk later. But, right now, we just gotta head back.”, Ranboo nodded in response as he looked over himself and Tubbo, who was just waking up himself. Groaning as he sat up on Ranboo’s hand.
“Hey guys, is everything okay?-“, he cut himself off as Tubbo looked around. Seeing Ranboo in his mer form and an injured Tommy. He was quick to piece the pieces of the puzzle together, sighing in relief.
“Okay, Ranboo go back to human form, and we’ll head home.”.
{…}
The three of them had settled down after everything that had happened during the long day, with Tubbo being the first to fall asleep, sprawled out all over his bed with a blanket barely covering him. Though, Tommy and Ranboo continued to talk.
“So that’s how you two met? Through a surfing competition?”, Tommy let out a laugh at the context. Quite the story of how the two of them had met.
“Yep! Anyways you want to talk about something? You look like you want to get something off your chest there.”, Tommy's eyes widened as he had been caught red-handed.
“Well… There is something…”, Tommy let out a sigh as he explained practically everything to Ranboo. Once he had finished, Ranboo was quick to sympathise with him.
“Well, you did try to protect me and Tubbo and you barely knew me. Not only that but your friend does need help, and I’d be happy to lend you my necklace, as long as you bring it back.”, Ranboo clutched the artefact to his chest.
“I promise! I’ll bring it back as soon as I can! Tubbo will make sure of it! Thank you! Thank you so much, Ranboo!”, Tommy was quick to hug Ranboo with tears in his eyes. Ranboo hugged him back.

“No… I don’t wanna…”, the boy mumbled as he leaned in closer to the comfortable yet strange walls. Whatever was happening in his dreams appeared to be bothering him as he rolled over a couple of times, attempting to get comfortable.
His hand moved to push against the wall, trying to push it away as if it had been annoying his peaceful slumber. Only for his sleepy self to grimace at how slimy his hand had become from whatever he had touched.
A sleepy, dramatically long yawn escaped his mouth as he had finally started to wake up, wiping away the sleepiness from his eyes. As he gains consciousness, he can’t help but feel as if his head was fuzzy and tired. He wasn’t sick, was he?
He sat up, opening his eyes for the first time in the day. Only for him to realise that everything surrounding him was mostly darkness, he let out a yelp of surprise. His hand moved to touch his surroundings as it met the plush wall.
That was when he remembered the previous night’s events, the apology and well, him staying with Wilbur. He let out a huff as Wilbur had witnessed his clingier side, even letting Wilbur eat- or store- whatever and sleeping in the pouch for the night.
A part of him was surprised that he had even made the decision, but another part of him was happy with the decision he had made because it was the first time in a while that he had gotten some proper sleep.
As his hand collided with the wall, they shifted ever so slightly as Wilbur let out a sleepy chirp in response. His breath hitched as he remained completely still, fearful of waking up the Mer on accident.
Luckily, Wilbur didn’t wake up. Tommy didn’t want Wilbur to wake up quite yet, admittedly it was rather comfortable in the pouch, and he didn’t really want to leave just yet. And so, Tommy was left alone in the pouch. Leaving him to be left alone with his thoughts.
His mind wandered towards the plan.
So currently, there was no set path or any goals of escape for the two of them to go towards. All there really was, was in fact that the two of them wanted Wilbur to escape. And that wasn’t really anything to go from, so what could Tommy do to help?
What if he had a truck? No wait, that wouldn’t work. Wilbur was way too big to be even transferred onto a truck, he’d crush the dang thing. And how would he even get access to such a thing? Well, Tubbo had his connections if anything but still, wouldn’t work.
Maybe his dad could help with the plan? But his dad didn’t necessarily have the materials to help Tommy in his predicament, he knew he could turn to his father if he needed a means of help, but nothing came to mind at the moment?
Maybe someone in the workplace? But who did he know here that weren’t complete assholes? Did Schlatt count? The man was nice and all but was he trustworthy? Especially since he practically owned the entire facility.
The man could easily just shut down his plans and take him away from Wilbur, way too much of a risk? So, who else could even help with such a thing? Well, there was one other person he could think of a bitch to be sure, but he’d definitely help Tommy.
Hell, he might not even question why he needs help. He smirked at the thought of the individual, and who else could it other than the local librarian? The man was knowledgeable and could definitely help Tommy with his plan!
Sure, the man had his strange unknown past, but the man was more than reliable! He was a close family friend after all. All he had to do now was just talk to the guy about it and it’ll be set and done! Wait, what time even was it?
With a sigh, he leaned in further against the wall. Content that he had a plan set in mind, sighing in relief that they finally had a chance at escaping. But then again, it was only just a chance. Not a solid plan.
He let out another sigh, curling further into himself in thought. What if the plan doesn’t work? What if he can’t do anything to help? What if something happened to him and Wilbur? This really couldn’t go wrong, not for anything.
And out of nowhere, Wilbur let out a surprisingly loud chirp of tiredness. Tommy lets out a yelp as the room begins to shift, wait… what would Wilbur do if he caught Tommy awake? Worried probably.
Trying to act as if nothing had happened and asleep, Tommy moved back to his original position and closed his eyes. Loudly pretending to snore as he did so. The room shifted and swayed some more, Wilbur seemingly swimming.
…
Wilbur woke up as he felt a small movement in his stomach… Was Tommy awake already? He questioned as a chirp escaped from his mouth, his stomach seemingly jumping in response. Confused, Wilbur brought a hand to his stomach.
And what he heard was almost enough to make him burst out laughing on the spot. Tommy was plainly trying to pretend he was asleep, snoring loudly as if he were actually asleep. But Wilbur already knew that Tommy didn’t snore like that.
He smirked at the little gremlin in his pouch, moving his hand to gently poke at the boy. As he did so, he could feel the boy squirm. Attempting to move away from the hand that poked at him, yelling out at Wilbur as he did so.
“Dickhead! Stop it!”, Tommy muffled as Wilbur had decided to squish him against the walls of his pouch. The Mer let a chirp happily, feeling joy at the feeling of something being in his brooding pouch.
It was then that Wilbur decided that Tommy had enough teasing as it was time for them to be getting up for the day. He swam towards the surface of his enclosure, breathing in some fresh air as he could finally communicate with Tommy verbally.
“Good morning, little Gremlin!”. The Mer spoke with a yawn in his voice, stretching out as he spoke. And in so, gave a pat to his stomach as he began his usual yet boring swim around the pool, getting his supposed exercise for the day.
“How the fuck did you know I was awake?”, Tommy yelled out as he kicked the pouch. The Mer in response rolled his eyes. Although Tommy wouldn’t even be able to see them as he let out a huff of fond annoyance.
“Well, Tommy. I’m not sure if you’re aware of this or not. But, in fact; This is not the first you’ve slept in my brooding pouch. Meaning I’m aware of your sleeping patterns, and I know you don’t fucking snore like that.”, Wilbur uttered sarcastically.
“Fair enough”, Tommy crossed his arms as he leaned back against the walls. Wilbur couldn’t help but instinctively let out another chirp, this time one of concern. If Tommy had been pretending to sleep, then why was he awake in the first place?
“Wait, how long have you been awake for? Is everything okay? Do you want me to let you out?”, he asked with panic. Admittedly, Wilbur really didn’t want to repeat any mistakes. He wanted Tommy to feel safe and comfortable but if he didn’t-
“I’m fine, Prick. I was only awake for a little while and thinking about some things. No need to worry about me”, Tommy assured as he rubbed the stomach walls. Wilbur let out a sigh of relief but was suddenly caught off guard by the sensation. Causing him to purr.
Tommy was also caught off guard by the sudden vibrations of the pouch, but it quickly turned mischievous as he realised that Wilbur had been enjoying the rubs. And therefore, the number of rubs had increased.
And although he enjoyed them, he quickly put pressure on his pouch. Causing Tommy to become crushed under the pressure, stopping his actions. They were getting off-topic, Wilbur needed to focus.
“Well then, what were you thinking about?”, he spoke worriedly as he hoped Tommy hadn’t been thinking of previous incidents, especially yesterday. He really didn’t want Tommy to feel bad about it.
“Oh right, uh- Well, I was thinking about the plan. Also, good news! I may have a lead on where to go next! Can’t guarantee anything but hopefully, I can get something out of it.”. Tommy spoke with his usual spark of determination.
…
How many years had he waited for this moment? Any glimpse of hope of finally having a chance of escape? If Wilbur could cry, he’d be wailing at tears at this moment. And it’s all thanks to Tommy, it may only be a chance but…
It was something, wasn’t it?
So many hurts of torment, containment and now he’d finally be able to return home! He could reunite with his pod! He wouldn’t be trapped in such a cramped space; He would even be able to eat as much food as he pleases!
He could feel his heart pumping rapidly throughout his chest. Feeling the need to swim, he quickly began to swim multiple laps around the pool, possibly even letting out a couple of chirps along the way.
Tommy held onto the walls as the room shifted quite a bit, smiling to see Wilbur so happy at a chance for escape. Even if it is just a mere possibility of escape, Wilbur was really just happy. Had Tommy ever seen him like this?
The shifting in the room slowly stopped and turned to gentle rubs from the walls, Tommy couldn’t help but lean into the touch, Wilbur purring in return. They both could only hope that things turned outright.
“Oh, Tommy! Thank you! I know you said it was a possibility but still! I haven’t been this happy in such a long time”, Wilbur’s tone was admittedly happy. Although he seemed happy with Tommy, the joy of the ocean must be really exciting to him.
“Wil, calm down! You bitch!”, the boy lashed out as the rubbing became increasingly pressurising, trying to push the walls back to their original position as he had gotten annoyed at their affectionate rubs.
“Sorry! But still, it’s been forever. I can’t wait to reunite with my pod and-“, Wilbur rambled continuously, talking about the various things he would do once he returned to the ocean. Talking about how he missed his pod and such.
And for some reason, even though Tommy was happy for Wil. The word ‘pod’ seemed to put him at unease for whatever reason. As for Mers, pods were their equivalent of family. But did Wilbur not see him as a family?
Tommy shook off his head, concluding he was just being selfish. No matter how much Tommy saw Wilbur as his brother, Wilbur already had his own family, his own life to get back to. He shouldn’t hold him back.
But what if he never saw Wilbur again? What if this was just a simple exchange, that Tommy meant nothing to Wilbur? If he was honest, he felt strangely regretted. Heartbroken even, a part of him was almost so overwhelming that he felt like crying.
But he shook it off, putting his feelings aside so Wilbur could be happy.
…
“Oh, I was rambling. Sorry Toms, do you wanna come out now?”. Wilbur’s tone had calmed down to its usual tone, although still sounding somewhat joyful. The pouch was oddly plush and comfortable despite its sliminess, Tommy almost didn’t want to leave.
“Yes. Please.”, he almost sounded angry, despite that not even being his intention. Why were his emotions getting the better of him? He shouldn’t be so cranky; He should be happy! What’s wrong with him?
Even so, Phil would probably become worried if he didn’t come home soon enough. It was better for the plan anyways. He could hear Wilbur hum, slightly in confusion as the pouch began to tightly squeeze around Tommy. Sending him out of the pouch.
As he was pushed upwards towards Wilbur’s throat, he couldn’t help but feel a sort of yearning. He wasn’t sure as to why. He had to go, he had to leave. He needed to get home and talk with him so that the plan would work.
The mouth soon opened and Wilbur had dragged him out gently from his fangs. The world felt cold as he was placed onto Wilbur’s hand, shivering as he adjusted to the temperature of the enclosure, he forgot how cold it could be.
“Aw, look at you! Just like a tiny, little pup with that face!”. Wilbur cooed as Tommy held a pouty lip as he huffed, wiping out the tiredness in his eyes. Quickly reacting to the coo, Tommy went to punch at Wilbur’s thumb, obviously doing no damage.
Wilbur couldn’t help but seem to laugh at Tommy’s reaction, leaning in closer to nuzzle him. At first, Tommy tried to push the nose away, but due to Wilbur’s persistence. He allowed the hug to happen. Not because he cared or anything.
Wilbur soon pulled away from the hug, leaving Tommy to feel alone as he was placed onto the usual platform. Tommy turned away with a small frown as he turned to gather his stuff that lay nearby. Bringing his phone near his ear as it rang.
“Hello, mate?”, his father greeted through the phone. There was a lump in his throat, feeling a strange tug that refused to leave even when he swallowed. He was just confused at his own emotions.
“Hey, Dad, can you come to pick me up, please?”, he hesitantly asked his father. He made quick eye contact with Wilbur, to see he had a concerned expression on his face. What was Wilbur worried about?
“Of course, I’ll be there in a bit!”. The call hung up, Tommy let out a sigh as he went to stretch for the first time in the day. He then turned to Wilbur to engage in conversation, to say goodbye before he enacted the plan.
“Everything alright, little pup?”, Wilbur asked with a worried glance, his webbed claw reaching out to gently brush his hair. Tommy couldn’t help but notice the nickname, the first thing Wilbur had called him besides Toms.
“I’m fine, Wil. No need to worry”, he put on a smile. Reaching out towards the clawed finger that laid on his head, rubbing it in reassurance. Wilbur’s worries seemed to ease ever so slightly, pulling away with a gentle smile.
It was then the two said goodbye, and the next time Tommy would be back. There’d be news.
…
“Remember to take a bath! And have something to eat!”, his father bombarded him as they entered the house. Tommy couldn’t help but let out a loud groan of annoyance, his father had always been a mother hen.
“Yeah, yeah. I know. I’ll do that now.”. And so, Tommy took a shower, washing away any saliva that could’ve been left behind from Wilbur. And ate whatever leftover food he could find in the fridge, wanting to talk to his father as soon as possible.
He entered his father’s office with a leftover slice of pizza in his mouth, walking over towards the desk to look at what Phil was doing on his computer. He could see his father’s face turned from focused to amused as he saw Tommy in the corner of his eye.
“What do you want, mate?”, he asked as he continued to click away at the computer. Tommy finished his pizza slice, leaning in front of his father’s screen to be not only annoying but also gain his full attention.
“Daddd”, he dragged out as he continued. “Can we go to the library?”, he attempted his usual puppy-dog eye expression that never failed to work on his father. And fortunately, it had worked as his father let out a sigh.
“Fine mate, we can go see him.”.
…
“Ayo! How’s my local librarian and brother figure?”, Tommy yelled out as he slammed the doors open to the library. The man that sat at the desk, reading a book; jumped as Tommy announced his presence.
“Tommy, quiet, we’re in a library. And I’m not your brother”. The librarian explained his usual monotone voice, with a hint of annoyance as he rolled his eyes. Tommy couldn’t help but give a determined smile.
“Oh Techno, stop denying the family dynamic!”, Tommy leaned his elbow against the receptionist desk, only for Techno to slap his hand over his mouth, shushing him in the process. In retaliation, Tommy licked the hand covering his mouth, Techno recoiled.
The man with his long, braided pink hair was strangely natural. Tommy didn’t dare question it. Techno had been adorned in subtle yet gold jewellery. A white blouse covered by a tidy red sweater, accompanied by a pair of black trousers and smart shoes.
He also wore a pair of typically black glasses, like a nerd. Phil quickly rushes into the library to catch up with Tommy and Techno, letting out an amused huff as he reached the desk, with a smile on his face.
“Heya, mate!”, Phil happily greets as he ruffled Techno’s hair. Techno appeared to be much more accepting of Phil’s affection rather than Tommy’s, proving that Phil was the favourite of the two of them.
“Alright. What do you want?”, Phil smiles as he pulls his hand away from Techno’s head, turning to Tommy with a look of expectation as Tommy had been the one to request that they come here, Phil had no idea.
“Well, I need a favour. Like Tech, I could really use your help. I have no idea on what to do.”, Techno hummed as he contemplated agreeing to Tommy’s request. Tommy’s expression turned to a serious one.
“How can I help?”.
…
Techno leaned back into the chair he sat in, crossing his arms, and closing his eyes as he processed the series of Tommy’s rambles and information. Tommy sat slumped in his own chair, anxiously fiddling with his thumbs. Phil rubbed his arm in reassurance.
“Okay, you’re telling me. You got a job, met a poorly treated Mer. Befriended said Mer and you want to help him escape the facility he’s confined into because he feels trapped and he gets treated like shit. Did I get all that?”. Techno spoke with slight confidence.
Tommy nodded, not too sure how to explain anything else. Techno had all the information he needed, could he help Tommy? He could only hope.
“Well, I don’t know too much about Mer’s, but I do believe I have something that could possibly help. Follow me”. Techno gestured for the two of them to follow him as he led them through a library, leading down towards a basement.
As they descended the stairs, Tommy couldn’t help but feel creeped out by the dark atmosphere, the cobwebs and darkness of the basement didn’t exactly seem welcoming, in fact, it seemed that this section of the library hadn’t been maintained in a while.
Techno turned on a light, that looked to be a very old ceiling light that flickered to life, revealing a very old basement. When had all of this been under the library? And why hadn’t he been told about it any sooner?
Techno continued to lead them throughout the various shelves of the basement, Tommy could only guess this was where the supposed ‘forbidden section’ was. Whatever was down here must either be of great importance or simply not in use.
The librarian then stopped at a particularly empty shelf, seemingly much more unkempt compared to the other shelves. Grabbing a strange particular book out from the shelf, its cover had a strange texture to it as Techno wiped away the dust.
“Here you go.”, Techno handed him the book. Tommy looked to Techno with a confused expression, what on earth was he going to do with a book? He thought there’d be like a secret lair behind the bookcase or something. Not an ordinary book.
With a sigh, he opened the first page with delicacy as the book appeared to be rather old. Only to be completely confused at what was written within. Each line of words weren’t even words. Instead, they were strange swirls and dots that surrounded the page.
“What the fuck is this?”, he turned the book around, trying to make sense of any of it but couldn’t help but feel confused about it all. He could hear both Techno and Phil let out a sigh, his father, in particular, looking disappointed and sad for whatever reason.
“Focus, Theseus. What is really on the page?”, Tommy let out a huff of annoyance before turning the book to its original orientation. Clearing his mind as he took a deep breath, fully putting his attention onto the page.
The swirls on the page began to move rapidly, causing Tommy to jump as the swirls moved around like slithering snakes. He looked to Techno or Phil for reassurance, only for them to have serious looks on their faces.
The swirls then settled into comprehendible letters, something that Tommy could read. And the information on the first page was rather shocking. It was a simple introduction, a book written about Mer magic by the species themselves.
But how was Tommy able to read this?
“Do you see anything, mate?”, his father asked with a glint of hope in his voice. Why was he hopeful. Confused, he nodded to answer his father’s question as he noticed a strong smile on his father’s face.
“Dad, why are you so happy? How can I read this shit?”, Phil let out a laugh as he gently ruffled Tommy’s hair in comfort. Seemingly pleased with the outcome, Tommy only became more confused at the situation.
“To put it simply, your part fish.”, Techno explained as Phil moved his mouth to speak, cutting off whatever grand story his father was about to tell. But what Techno had said had completely shocked Tommy as he looked to Phil for confirmation.
Phil only nodded with a smile.
Wait, was he really part Mer? If so, how? Was his father a Mer this entire time and never told him? Was Wilbur able to really escape? Was Tommy able to turn into a Mer like a mermaid tail or something? He wanted the answers to his questions.
…
“Calm down!”, Phil put his arms up in surrender as Tommy bombarded him with questions. He was so desperate for answers given the moment. Tommy gave an annoyed groan as the book laid under his arm.
“Let me tell you a story quickly. Basically, a long time ago; I was just a simple fisherman with my family that lived near the beach. And one day, I met a particular lady on the beach. Your mother, the love of my life”.
“We fell in love and had you. She couldn’t stick around due to important Mer business but she’s still out there, alive.”, his father summarised his entire love life, which answered a couple of things. But honestly, he was just happy to receive the news that his mother was alive.
“I’m honest to God, really happy right now. Because you can read that book, meaning that you do have Mer blood. Neither Techno nor I can even read a simple scribble on that book.”. His father laid his hands on his shoulders.
For a second Tommy remained shocked before it turned to a smile. If he was actually part Mer, that only meant that he had an even deeper connection with the species and closer to Wilbur in particular!
Then he remembered something.
…
“Oi! Stop it bitch! Why the fuck are you so cuddly?”, Tommy howled as Wilbur had randomly picked up Tommy out of blue, nuzzling him as if he were just a little pet in his hands. He could only be baffled at Wilbur’s sudden change in behaviour.
“Oh shush, here I thought you were all about Mer’s with your degree in Marine Biology. Whatever the hell that means, you should know this. It’s practically common knowledge, isn’t it?”, Wilbur teased with an amused expression.
Tommy pushed away Wilbur’s nose, focusing on his thoughts. What on earth was Wilbur talking about? He wasn’t stupid, he thought as he fumbled through his brain for any source of reliable information.
“Oh, right. You bitches can easily get attached to anybody, including humans in some cases. Does that mean you see me as your pod or some shit?”, his confidence returned as he attempted his teasing.
“Correct! And to answer your question Gremlin boy, not really. You’re too annoying. But good job!”, Wilbur only brought a claw to gently ruffle his hair. His fangs were on full display as he gave a massive smile.
Is that why he was feeling this way?
…
Techno had allowed Tommy to take the ancient book home if Tommy promised to take care of the book. And of course, he did, he really did need to read the book. And with no work the next day, he had plenty of time to read and research.
And throughout the night, Tommy reads the book. The information is actually pretty informative about Mer culture, although humans were already somewhat knowledgeable in the subject, it was still nice to learn about.
But he still didn’t have any answers.
Until he stumbles upon an interesting page that is laid in the relics section. The page had been titled “The relic to turn the tides” as it demonstrated an illustration of the relic, which appeared to be like a shell necklace.
It entailed,
“The shell of turning tides has always been an important relic throughout our culture, although rare and without any knowledge of crafting the replication of magic in the relic. This relic allows its user to disguise as one of the earth-walkers above the surface.”.
That was all Tommy needed to know, and Tommy finally had his answers and his lead. But where to get this necklace? The book said it was rare and although part Mer, Tommy had no connections to the ocean. How would he get one? And what do you do when you need to find an ancient relic? Search it up on the internet.
“Ancient Mer relic that transforms into human shell necklace for sale”. No results.
“Magic shell necklace Mer”. No results.
“Shell necklace”. Nothing relevant to his research.
Tommy slumped; he had his lead, but he had no idea on how to find such a relic. Taking a deep breath, he decided to put it aside for the night. Going to sleep for the night. There was a lot to do in front of him.

Unnamed au (Fae!Techno and Human!Tommy)
The beast went by many names and titles throughout his lifetime, like ‘The Scary Boar’ or ‘The Roaring Fury’ and well earned titles as the Fae that lurked in their land was definitely a terrifying entity, one that had bombarded their land for centuries.
As for the beasts actual name, they go by Techno. And for what ever reason, whenever am individual visits the beast. They never return. There was even a tale of a wandering bard taking his songs to the forest, and they say he was never seen again.
There’s always a nursery rhyme to warn the kingdoms children;
“Never interact with the scary boar.
He is a beast, seeing humans as nothing more than a chore.
If you see him, you’ll be met with a fearsome roar.
Never to be seen, forever more.”.
But a teenage boy had never been one to listen to the words of his elderly or the fairy tales. Tommy had always been one for adventure! And well, every time he wandered into the words; he never encountered such a terrifying creature. Why should he be scared now?
Little did he know, that was only the beginning.
