My mix tape is still missing, but I managed to find a Kashyyyk radio station that plays nothing but Life Day songs this time of year. And I've locked the Finalizer's radio on it.

All the songs are in Shyriiwook, of course, but even though I'm the only person on board who understands that language, I think everyone will still feel the cheer these classic tunes spread. And that's the whole point, really.

I find super funny that Obi-Wan not only understand Shyriiwook but also he can, in fact, speak Shyriiwook.

In episode IV Ben do a Krayt Dragon roar/scream/call. So if you can do it you probably can speak Shyriiwook. Probably.

okay but the fact that wrecker was attempting to speak shyriiwook, especially considering the fact that it is difficult on human vocal cords, is so cool because it means he knows enough of it that he can speak it. and if you know one thing about me, know that i LOVE language in star wars, and it is really cool to see the characters knowing and using more than one language (tech doesn’t count)

Do you think Wookiee Jedi had to request that their troops pass a language exam before taking anyone on?

Like did Kamino make sure to plan out for some or even most troopers to readily understand spoken versions of languages from species that cannot physically speak Basic.

(This came to mind because of Snedi Anakin, whose communications are entirely via Force Telepathy and Space Morse Code, since he can only hiss and cannot make Basic Words with his mouth.)

If your Wookiee General is yelling for you to veer left to avoid incoming fire, you don't want to waste a few seconds trying to remember which Shyriiwook word means left and which word means right, you need to be able to respond immediately.

I want to say they ensured that These Many Squads could speak Wookie, etc. I was going to add Ithorian but they tend to use translator collars. We know that Huttese and Ryl aren't standardized learning for the troopers, but Hutts aren't Jedi and Twi'leks (at least, those raised as Jedi) can speak Basic, but presumably Jango thought far enough ahead to prepare the clones for language barriers present with their own generals.

Also today I finally noticed that Wookiee is spelled with two Es.

There are many different ways to say 'hello' in Huttese: H'chu apenkee - Hello Achuta - Hello (informal), hi Toogi - Greetings Chowbaso - Welcome Chuba! - Hey you!

And some other SW languages: Bocce - Jettoz Ewokese - Goopa, Sku, Ee choya! Shyriiwook - Wyaaaaa Jawa - M'um m'aloo Tusken - Aargh Gungan - Mesa greeting, hey-dalee, hidoe Neimoidian Pak Pak - L'a heeting The most universal intergalactic greeting is derived from the ancient pre-Corellian salutation yaa-yaah.

I think Yoda's Jedi master should be a Wookiee

They naturally have long lifespans, so a wookiee would be well suited to care for a species who ages slowly

Just imagine itty bitty baby Yoda in the arms of a giant fuzzy wookiee

This Wookiee Jedi could have introduced Yoda to other wookiees and brought him on trips to kashyykk

Oh, and since Yoda was born in 896 bby, it's possible for this hypothetical Wookiee Jedi to have encountered and fought the old sith passing on stories of them to Yoda

This also could explain Yoda's speech patterns

If you don't know, some languages, if you translate them literally, come out in english as "Yoda speak" as my Latin professor put it

So what if that's how Shyriiwook (the wookiee language) works?

When you literally translate it, you get Yoda's speech pattern, and that shaped how Yoda speaks in basic
