The story is based on the Minecraft Origins mod. The setting is in a region called Ore-acle, a place that is historically unkind to the misunderstood and those more intuned with magic than humans. The first to be victims of Ore-acle's hate were the Witches, the original settlers of the land. They were driven out by the incoming humans, their schools burned and their techniques for potion brewing and enchanting stripped from them until it became common knowledge without respect to the art and practice it takes to do it well.
When the Witches were driven out, their bonds with their animal companions created a new species. Hybrids. Anthropomorphic animals and mobs began to spread over the region, most created by the bond of magic. The closer to gen one they are, the higher their instincts of their origin. Bees have a murder mode. Killer Rabbits are protective of their loved ones. Elytrians need the space of the open sky and fear anything that could injure or take their wings.
Humans began hunting these half-breeds out of fear and hatred for them. The Ore-acle government funded a group known as the Hunters' Guild, their sole purpose to eradicate the infestation. They are said to be brave warriors going out to protect the people of Ore-acle. Many bases sprout up all over the land. An annual tournament is held, with rarer hybrid kills earning the teams more points. Pieces of hybrids are carried off as trophies. The highest trophy one can have is a pair of Elytrian wings, the species having been hunt to extinction.
Scientist groups formed to better understand the hybrids, capturing and experimenting on them. Some want to preserve the species or bring them back, such as groups that have been trying to capture a pair of Elytrians or those that experimented on orphaned humans in an attempt to bring back the long extinct Phantom hybrids.
In the midst of such hatred and dispair, heros slowly arise from the most unlikely places.
