Silvi Vrait - Nagu Merelaine (Like a Sea Wave) Estonia 1994 24th place - 2pts
Estonia 1994
'Nagu merelaine' (Like a seawave), performed by Silvi Vrait. Composer: Ivar Must. Lyrics: Leelo Tungal.
Estonia finally make it to a Saturday night live show, and many people across the continent must have wondered why they bothered.
Vrait strikes a lonely figure on stage, with her backing singers (four of them... really?) stranded behind the monitors on her right. Her vocals don;t catch alight, and there's no moment where the song presents a hook to catch in your brain.
I come back to a relatively simple question for every Eurovision song. Why would this song make someone vote for it over another song. And in the case of 'Nagu merelaine', I can't think of a reason.
Still, they scored two points and beat Lithuania, which is something.
Points: 2. Placing: 24th.
Silvi Vrait on kindlasti ennast kinnistanud paljude Eestlaste südametesse ja mõneti on sellest paslik rääkida täna. Ent tahaks tähelepanu pöörata hoopis Vraiti lauldud Eurovisiooni produktsioonile ja just loo “Nagu merelaine" töötlusele. Peale selle, et üks Eurovisiooni lugu võiks mingilgi moel tekitada cutis anerina´t ja seda ta juba tekitas, oli see lugu ka üks Eesti esimesi paremaid töötlusi džungli žanrist. Oli, on ja jääb. Igal juhul tänasesse sobib.
A mix by Estonian DJ Green of “Nagu merelaine", a song from 1994 Eurovision song contest and one of few worth listening to.
