well, I've seen the term tossed around too many times on tumblr to not merit a good clear definition:

heteronormitivity is the hegemony of the notion of private heterosexual, monogamous,commited and loving couple as being the best.

It is possible for a gay couple to be heteronormitive, as it can model its self off of the same standards of privacy, commitment and lovingness.

This standard is an idol we all worship. There are many alternative forms of sexuality out there that are taboo because they are not heteronormitivity.
