Raise your hand if you’ve ever eaten meat on a Friday in Lent - or forgotten to abstain from whatever you gave up - or just lost momentum in your 40 days of preparation for the Paschal Mystery 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️ Each year I set goals that I pray will help me deepen my relationship with God and if I mess up I get super frustrated with myself and fall into the trap of viewing the whole season as a failure. But friends, that is so not the case. God just asks us to be faithful in our efforts to know him more, not to be perfect. I was reminded of that when I opened the new @blessedisshe__ Lenten Journal right to this page which beautifully shares that so long as we are trying, we cannot “fail” Lent. . . . And for someone who can let ideas of failure and not being good enough viciously consume my thoughts, this message was exactly what I needed as I begin praying about what Lent will look like for me this year. And I hope these words can serve as a reminder for anyone else in a similar boat. “Lent was not made for failure, but faithfulness.” 💛 . . I cannot say enough good things about the BIS journals and this one is probably my favorite yet. The beautiful words of @thismessygrace and designs of @beaheartdesign in She Who Believed introduce readers to women in Scripture that teach us about prayer as we move through the season of Lent. Each week we encounter 4 women(2 from Hebrew Scriptures and 2 from the New Testament and there are even built in ‘pauses’ to help enter into deeper prayer - or to just catch-up if a day is missed. It’s a truly stunning book that I cannot wait to begin praying through. . . . The journals have sold out every time, so be sure to order soon if you’re interested. There’s an affiliate link in my bio if you want to learn more and join us in prayer this Lent. #BISLent #shewhobelieved

I’ve been praying and thinking deeply about the concept of empathy lately and last night put some of those thoughts to paper - or rather in a blog post. If you know any good sources or studies on empathy I would love to hear about them.
Peace, Sarah
Any book suggestions?
Now that I’ve finished grad school, I finally had a chance to *gasp* read for fun again. As an avid reader, I can’t express how good it feels to have time to just sit down and get absorbed by someone else’s words and not have to worry about being quizzed on it in the next class.
Today I’m sharing some of the books I’ve read this summer on my blog and would love to hear any suggestions from you as I’m pretty much happy to read anything I can get my hands on :) Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Peace, Sarah
Time to light that second candle... May your Advents be filled with hope and love.
