Max Lode needed a break from his fixer-upper house in Newcrest, and was hanging out with distant cousin Dhalia Loden at the Flea Market event in San Myshuno. Even though Max went back home empty handed, furniture-wise, it was nice to add a new friend in his new home of Maxis Province.
When Max returned to his lot-in-progress in Newcrest, something just wasn't right. "What the Watcher...?" he thought to himself. "Wasn't the lot next door...vacant? How the hell...?"
It sure wasn't a mirage, as he touched the chain link fence on one of the two small houses. But it looked like both of them were abandoned. Wait...the residents on the other side of these lots must have noticed the same thing. Might as well meet some of the new neighbors!
"Hey! Aren't you the new guy working on that house across the way?" Kev Chorduroy greeted his new neighbor. "You look perplexed."
"Sorry, but yes, I'm Max Lode, your new neighbor two lots down," Max started to say, as they exchanged introductions. "Did you notice something...ODD about the lot next door?"
"Oh, because they're vacant?" Kev scratched his head. "Don't worry, they're not haunted or anything like that." Well, that clearly did NOT clear up any questions Max had about it.
"I live here with my stepsister Annabelle and my dad--but," Kev cuts himself off. "You can call him Chet, because he will always try to be one of the guys. Like father, like bro, if you know what I'm talking about."
"Thanks!" Max replied. "Sorry about not doing my introductions to the neighbors until now. I was all wrapped up with the renovations."
"No biggie. Come on inside," Kev waved him in. "They're probably out back doing the usual backyard stuff, with spring finally here."
"Whoa! The new guy's here!" Annabelle ran over, as daddy Chet offered him a seat on the patio. "How's the house coming along, neighbor?"
"And she isn't asking in a stalker way, OK?" Chet elbows the newbie, as Max tenses up, while Annabelle gasps at the burn.
"DAD!! REALLY??" Annabelle flicks the bird at her dad, then pats Max on the arm. "I know when Dad wants some bro time with a new guy, so I'll get back to my own backyard stuff. Nice to meet you, and see you around the neighborhood...just not in a stalker sort of way."
"Kev and Annabelle have separate moms, but they're still both MY KIDS," Chet cleared that up. "But if you and my girl decide to start seeing each other, I'll keep an eye on you, IN a stalker sort of way." Chet used his two peace fingers to make that gesture back to Max.
"Understood, sir...Mister...CHET!" Max went through pronouns, while Chet shook his head, until he got the correct one. "Um, this is going to sound strange, but were those houses next door ALWAYS there?"
"Of course not!" Chet answered, as Max's eyes popped. "Maybe 70 years ago they weren't. But hoping someone like you can come along and renovate their asses, but you already got enough on your plate."
"Uh...OK," Max was more confused now, then he was before he stopped by. "Maybe I need to just give the brain cells some rest, and chill out somewhere for a while."
"And here you are, neighbor!" Chet extended his arms proudly at his backyard oasis. "Get your trunks, and meet us back her in 10. Mush!"
What was going on in Newcrest? Max thought it was a barren prairie, ripe for development, but someone or SOMETHING was already making that happen. Only the Watcher knew.

The two new houses that popped up were by creator @axiisims, and fit nicely onto that lot between the new neighbors.
I added Annabelle to the "Like Father, Like Bro" family of Chet and Kev Chorduroy, who all hail from the Sims 4 Backyard Stuff trailer.
