This isn't new. Like this one, previous incidents also shook up the nation, took over the media, were widely condemned - and the perpetrators were never caught, and then the world forgot, and then it happened again. Paracha's article is worth reading for the disgust in it, because it's getting harder and harder to find that - it's being replaced by apathy, a sense of futility, and worse, agreement. The accompanying video with famed journalist Ansar Abbasi defending the practice of flogging as prescribed punishment is sickening.
One of the pictures shown seriously bothers me - Sipah-e-Sahaba flags at an Imran Khan rally. I knew the Jamaat-ul-Islami was allied with the PTI and that's bad enough (but I guess Mr. Khan needs to be allied with larger movements, especially religious movements if he wants to be validated) but whereas the JUI is an Islamic-based valid political party, the SSP is a banned terrorist organisation. One that wants to kill everyone who's not a Deobandi Sunni. Notably Shias - my parents still talk about the organization in hushed tones - but pretty much everyone else too. I wonder if my PTI-supporting cousin knows his hero is cavorting with an organisation that would love to wipe out my whole family.
