Sleeping Spider
(442 words)
The Avengers had been watching a movie in Stark Towers, but by the time it had ended, nearly everyone was either asleep or drunk. Clint was neither, but he did have one problem. Natasha was asleep on his lap. He’d learnt in the past not to wake her, as she then would go into her mission mode, but if he did it right, he could carry her to bed.
Carefully, and ignoring a drunk Tony and Thor, he managed to get his legs out from under his partner, all the while getting his arms around her, holding her gently but securely. Clint quickly ducked a beer bottle as it flew over his head, coming from the two drunk men.
“Bloody hell,” he muttered, picking up Natasha and shielding her from the others. If anything hit her from the stupid game of catch that was being played, both of them would not be too happy.
“Clint and Natasha, sitting in a-” hic. Tony tried to sing, swaying on his feet. Where was Pepper when needed? Probably sleeping, the smart woman. “Hey, birdie, where are you going? Not going to-” hic “-have a drink with us?”
“Yes, the mead here is quite festive,” Thor said, a little too loudly.
“Maybe tomorrow,” Clint replied softly, stepping over Bruce, who was sleeping near the door, on his way out.
As he walked down the hall towards his room, he heard another bottle smash. They were going to have a great time cleaning that up when sober. Smiling to himself, he pushed open the door, trying his hardest not to move Natasha. She mumbled something in his arms and snuggled closer to him, causing his smile to grow.
She was beautiful while sleeping, not that she wasn’t when awake, but he finally had a good chance to look at her without being caught. The peaceful look on her face made his heart speed up in affection, happy that she was relaxed for once in her busy life.
He stepped towards his bed, glad he had cleaned it before watching the movie. It had been covered in arrows and his clothing before, no place to put an angel like the one in his arms. Gently and slowly, he lowered her down onto the soft sheets. Straight away, Natasha rolled into the covers, softly smiling as she snuggled down. She was perfect, he couldn’t deny that now, or could he ever in the past.
“Sleep tight, Tasha,” Clint whispered, taking a step back. “Have sweet dreams.”
He glanced once more at her perfection before heading out and closing the door behind him, planning on going up to the roof.
