Day 1718 - I wasn’t originally going to post this, but I decided to after reading about the recent attacks on transgender rights. The other day I was making certificates for something by updating the ones from last year. The original template said “his” or “her” piece and needed to be adjusted for each participant, which was a pain. In the course of working on that, I realized that there was no reason for a gender pronoun to be there in the first place and I changed the template. It feels pretty insignificant in the light of what’s going on now, but I think that there is also value in questioning our binary gender default and working to make the world a little more inclusive.
Even though it may seem small to you, you might be making a world of a difference.

la ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu | Small Deeds and Big Rewards The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “He who utters ten times: ‘La ilaha illallahu, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahulmulku wa lahulhamdu, wa Huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in Qadir (there is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner with Him. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent),’ he will have a reward equal to that for freeing four slaves from the progeny of Prophet Isma’il. History means interpretation … It is the historian who has decided for his own reasons that Caesar’s crossing of that petty stream, the Rubicon, is a fact of history, whereas the crossing of the Rubicon by millions of other people before or since interests nobody at all

I vote we make making shoutouts of thanks to women looking out for other women a thing to dispel the myth women are “catty and always competing with each other, to encourage other to look out for one another, and to spread a little love for people who do little things that make a huge difference.
I’ll start:
This past Friday I went to the local walk-in clinic after work, hoping to see a doctor.
“I’m sorry, the walk-in doctor just left like, a minute ago,” the receptionist apologized, “Would you like to make an appointment for Monday morning?”
“Sure,” I said. Cest la vie, after all.
So she took my name, address, y’know the usual stuff, and then asked what the appointment is regarding (it’s a standard question when making doctor’s appointments in Canada).
“I have a painful lump on my breast,” I told her.
Immediately, her whole demeanor changed.
She sat up straight, clearly deliberating something for a heartbeat or two before saying “Hang on, I’ll see if one of the doctors can see you anyway.”
