Lucila’s only 16, but an early exposition to art at a young age has already given her a unique sense of creativity few people her age have. Her artwork never fails to evoke a sense of calmness but behind each painting involves an order of detailed steps. From the initial concept idea to the paint selection, choice brushes, canvas material, color mixing, and painting, they are true reflections to the creative essence of art and the exquisite work of artistry.
We caught up with Lucila one evening to find out more about her artwork, favourite clothes for travelling, and career path ahead!
In your own words, what does art mean to you?
Art for me is expression at its finest. It's a way a human mind can translate its ideas into something else when words aren't enough. It works as a sort of escape, an alter-world. It’s a medium of communication which creates culture and movements, ideas, and gives a special spice to this world.
Where do you find inspiration for your artwork?
In colors. When I see something with a color that catches my eye, I start to imagine a whole wide pattern with colors that complement each other. Then I think of shapes and movements and voila! Inspiration is born [laughs].
How would you describe your style of painting?
I’m sure it's somewhere in contemporary/modern art but I wouldn't know where to archive it though. I take a lot from impressionism, surrealism, abstract and conceptual art. I mix it all and then I print it wherever I can, either on a piece of paper or canvas.
What other artists can you relate your work to?
I don’t know, because my paintings are really personal so I don’t know with whom I can relate them to. Nevertheless, I find a lot of inspiration in Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Mark Rothko, and I've recently discovered this amazing and gifted artist called Kwang Ho Shin who did these wonderful masterpieces of charcoal and acrylics and I fell in love.
Blue is a color with many interpreted emotions. What are your thoughts on the color?
Indeed, blue is a color with many different interpretations and ideas. Depending on its shade, it can be either relaxing or depressing, but it all depends on the eye of the beholder. In my opinion, blue represents a passive, calm, and still color but it's used to interpret many moving matter such as water or air. I love colors that have this kind of contradiction and many different faces. Painting with them is like playing - you can experiment and it’s really fun.
What are your passions outside of painting?
I love writing, taking pictures, movies, hanging out with friends, taking photos, meeting new people, traveling, and fashion. I find these ways very useful for learning about fascinating new cultures.
How would you describe your fashion style?
It really depends on my mood; I don’t have anything set as a style. I can go from classic to grunge in one second. I try to stick to minimalistic colors yet adding some fun to it.
What are your essentials for travelling?
Something comfy and fashionable at the same time. Maybe a denim jacket, some skinny jeans or black leggings, a basic tank top and Converse sneakers. Then for travelling to a new place, it all depends on the weather and season.
What would you choose to do as a career in the future?
I really don’t know [laughs] but right now I’m leaning towards journalism. I find medicine so interesting but I think my profile goes better with that one of a journalist.
