i actually can't even begin to explain how mesmerisingly satisfying 'god's own country' was for me? the stark and unapologetic reality of it all was absolutely beautiful and left me in awe of the fact that whilst things aren't going to magically be better overnight - there has been this wave of progress made throughout the film. it's in no way a happily ever after ending, with the daily stresses and strains of the farm still present, and the hostility of locals not disappearing, but it's a triumph for johnny and gheorge who - in spite of it all - find happiness. with gheorge finding a home in johnny, someone to love as tenderly as he wants, and johnny find a comfort and support unlike no other in a man. like i say, it's easy to envision about a million more arguments between them about johnny and his sexuality and acceptance of it, and everyone else's acceptance too. but it's easier to envision two people finding comfort in the most simplest of ways - in each other - for absolutely years and years, tending to sheep and eating gheorge's cheese for the rest of their days. just happy.
