the nursery is dim, bathed in the soft blue glow of the nightlight, but it’s still too loud. your son’s cries pierce through the quiet, relentless and sharp, and you’re exhausted - more than exhausted actually.
you bounce him gently in your arms, rocking side to side the way the nurse showed you. he’s warm and tiny and perfect, but his little fists are clenched and his face is scrunched up as he screams in your arms.
“shh, peanut, please,” you whisper, heart aching. “mama’s here. you’re okay. just sleep for me, please.”
but he won’t. he hasn’t, for almost an hour its just been crying.
you hear the soft creak of the floorboards behind you, and you don’t need to look to know who it is. sohee steps into the room, shirt rumpled from sleep, hair sticking up on one side. he takes one look at your face and wordlessly holds out his hands.
you hesitate. shame creeps in as you hand your son over, and sure enough, the second sohee settles him into his arms, the crying stops. just like that. your son nuzzles against his chest with a soft whimper, eyes already fluttering shut.
and you break.
“he hates me,” you whisper, voice trembling as you stand there. “he ... he never calms down for me. i don’t know what i’m doing wrong.”
“baby-”
“no, don’t.” your voice cracks as you squeeze your eyes shut. “i’m his mom. i carried him. and he won’t even let me hold him without crying. i don’t ... I don’t think i’m a good mom. i don't even know what i'm doing wrong”
the words hang heavy in the air, and for a moment, there’s only the sound of your son’s tiny breathing as he sleeps against sohee’s chest.
then sohee moves. he leans in close, forehead pressing against yours, gentle and warm. “you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to him,” he says softly. “and to me.”
your lip trembles.
“he doesn’t hate you,” sohee continues. “he’s just a baby. he’s overwhelmed. everything is new and loud and scary. but he loves you, i promise. he knows your voice. he knows your scent. when he’s calm, he looks at you like you’re his whole world.”
you sniff, reaching up to brush at your tears, and sohee smiles, nudging your nose with his. “you’re doing so well. i see how much you love him. i see how hard you’re trying. he’ll feel that, soon. just like i do.”
you blink at him, chest aching. “i’m so tired.”
“i know, sweetheart.” he presses a kiss to your forehead. “let me hold him a little longer. you rest, even just a bit. we’ve got this, okay? we’re doing this together.”
you nod slowly, "i love you. thank you"
sohee gives you a warm smile, one that assures you deep down everything will be okay, "i love you too"

Angst
You walked to the dance studio with your hands holding 2 bags filled with home-baked goods for your boyfriend, Eunseok, and his friends.
You smiled as you walked towards the door, only to trip over your own feet and realise that your shoe laces were undone. You put the bags aside and crouched down to tie your laces. You could hear the chatter coming from the dance studio where your boyfriend and his group were practising their choreography diligently.
You got up to enter the dance studio when you heard something that made you freeze dead in your tracks.
"Y/N is so clingy, you're really not missing out on much, Anton, trust me," Eunseok said, snickering.
"Tell me about it, no offence, but it would be so much better if she weren't always there. She's my best friend, but my god, she's so clingy. It's desperate and I hate it. "How's Eunseok, Sungchan? Do you need me to get you food? Do you wanna hang out?" Like, please shut up."
"Oh my God, someone who gets me! She's also always stealing my hoodies like it's not cute, it's also really annoying when she stretches them out like jeez, those are some really cool hoodies, which now are way too big for me." He laughed throwing something- probably his waterbottle on top of his bag.
You felt faint. Your heart was hammering in your chest, and you felt your breathing get heavy. You didn't know what to do, before you could do anything, you heard someone open the studio door, you quickly put on a smile and picked up your bags before being greeted by a very uncomfortable Sohee.
His face lit up with a smile when he realised it was you.
"Y/N! What are you doing here?" He asked, pulling you into a hug. His face dropped when he remembered the conversation that took place in the dance studio. "When did you get here?"
"Oh, just a few moments ago, I came with treats!" You exclaimed, lifting the bags up, sohee smiled even wider as he peeked into the bag and realised you had brought cookies, brownies and carrot cake. He took both bags off you, opening the door to the dance studio for you. You gave him a small smile as you walked in.
The atmosphere completely changed when you walked in. You saw the way Sungchan and Eunseok froze seeing you walk in.
"Y/Nnie," Sungchan called out, "when did you get here?"
"Not long ago, just as Sohee walked out." You replied, taking the bags off Sohee, "I brought treats for you all." You said as you and Sohee started taking the baked goods out of the bag and laying them on the table near the entrance.
You didn't miss the look that Sungchan and Eunseok gave each other. A part of you wanted to run out of the studio and not look back, but the other part of you knew it wasn't the best course of action.
The boys all came running towards the table, and Eunseok gave you a small peck on the cheek. "You're a star baby," he said, smiling at you. You couldn't believe he was capable of talking so horribly about you behind your back and then feigning love and adoration for you in front of you.
You smiled and moved to the side as you let the boys eat the food. You saw Anton in the corner. He looked tense. You couldn't blame him, after all, Eunseok told him about what he felt towards you, Anton's inner romantic probably died.
You didn't realise that Anton had started walking towards you until you heard his soft voice.
"Can we talk?" He asked fiddling with teh strings of his hoodie.
"Sure, what's up?" You asked removing the strings from aroun his fingers, "your blood circulation will be cut off if you kee doing that toni."
He gave you a weak smile.
"Thanks for worrying about me Y/N." A small chuckle left his throat, "I want to talk to you about something that happened today. It's related to you."
"Okay... what is it Toni? You're kind of scaring me."
"I don't know how else to say this, but Eunseok and Sungchan were talking horribly about you."
"Anton just because you've never been able to find a partner doesn't mean you should go around lying to people." Eunseok's voice startled you. You turned around to see him leaning againsnt the door frame glaring at you both.
summary — years into your marriage, you and husband, sohee curl up on the couch one cozy night, reminiscing about your high school days. back then, he was the shy, insecure boy who thought he was a ‘loser’, quiet, awkward, and secretly in love with you, the girl he believed was out of his league. as you laugh and share memories, he opens up about how he saw himself, and you remind him of the moments that made you fall for the sweet, unassuming boy who’s now your forever.
warnings — fluff with a touch of bittersweet nostalgia, mentions of teenage insecurity (light and reflective), and so much tenderness it might make you melt.

it’s one of those quiet nights, rare now with his riize schedule where it’s just the two of you, no rush, no noise. a half-empty mug of tea sits on the coffee table, steam curling up in the air.
“remember high school?” you say, nudging him with your elbow, a playful grin tugging at your lips.
“you were so quiet back then. i thought you hated me for a while.”
sohee laughs, that soft, breathy sound you’ve loved since forever, and shakes his head.
“hated you? nah. i was just… terrified of you.”
you tilt your head, resting it against his shoulder.
“terrified? of me? i was the one who kept tripping over my own feet in gym class.”
“yeah, but you were still you,” he says, voice low, like he’s pulling the memory out of some hidden corner.
“confident, funny, always surrounded by people. i was the weird kid who’d hide in the music room, thinking i was a total loser. no way someone like you’d even notice me.”
you shift to look at him, his face soft in the dim light, eyes distant as he remembers.
“you weren’t a loser, sohee. you were just… quiet. i liked that about you.”
he quirks an eyebrow, skeptical.
“really? because i spent half my time back then convincing myself you’d laugh if i ever talked to you. i’d see you in the halls, smiling like it was nothing, and i’d just… freeze.”
“oh, i noticed you,” you say, poking his chest.
“how could i not? you’d always have those headphones on, scribbling in that notebook like you were writing the next big hit. i thought it was cute.”
he flushes, even now, years later, and ducks his head.
“cute, huh? i felt like a mess. i liked you so much it made me stupid. remember that time i dropped my lunch tray because you said hi to me?”
you burst out laughing, the memory hitting you like a wave.
“yes! you turned so red i thought you were gonna pass out. i felt bad after thought i’d scared you off for good.”
“nah,” he murmurs, a small smile creeping up.
“just made me like you more. you were nice about it, didn’t make me feel dumb. that’s when i started thinking maybe i wasn’t invisible to you.”
you reach for his hand, lacing your fingers through his.
“you were never invisible to me. i liked how you’d get all shy, but then you’d light up when you talked about music. i’d hear you humming under your breath in class and think, ‘this guy’s got something special.’”
he looks at you, eyes softening.
“i didn’t know that. i thought i was just… background noise. the kid who didn’t fit in, who’d never be cool enough for someone like you.”
“sohee-ah,” you say, squeezing his hand,
“you were cool enough for me. you still are. i fell for the boy who’d blush every time i looked at him, who’d leave little doodles on my notes when he thought i wasn’t paying attention. you didn’t have to be loud or flashy, i liked you just the way you were.”
he’s quiet for a moment, thumb brushing over your knuckles.
“took me forever to believe that. even after we started dating, i kept waiting for you to realize you could do better.”
“better?” you scoff, leaning closer until your foreheads almost touch.
“you’re the guy who wrote me a song for our first anniversary, who still holds my hand like it’s the first time. there’s no better, sohee. there’s just you.”
he smiles, real and unguarded, and pulls you into his chest, the blanket slipping a little as you settle against him.
“guess i got lucky, then. high school me would’ve freaked out knowing we’d end up here.”
“high school me would’ve too,” you say, voice muffled against his shirt.
“but i’m glad we did.”
he hums, a contented sound, and you feel his heartbeat steady under your cheek.

face painting and other disasters

dni: if you sexualize little space. summary: when unsuspecting sohee falls asleep on the couch, his little decides that it's time for a makeover.
you sat on the living room floor, colouring and playing quietly as possible so that you don't wake sohee. he’d fallen asleep over an hour ago, sleepily telling you to wake him up if you needed anything before drifting off.
however, you fought the urge to violently shake him and then ask to play “makeup” it was your favourite activity, but definitely not sohee’s. he absolutely hated how difficult it was to remove afterward and would spend an hour nagging you about why he’s “never going to let you do his makeup ever again.”
yet every time you ask, he painstakingly obliges. and to your little space brain, that means he absolutely loves having his makeup done.
you peek over at sohee who’s sleeping peacefully and completely unaware of what you’re currently planning. an idea pops into your head and you giggle quietly to not wake him.
if sohee loves getting his makeup done so much, you’re sure he won’t mind you doing it while he’s asleep!
quietly, you tip toe away from the living room and into your bathroom where you keep all of your makeup/face paint supplies. after staring at everything for a couple minutes you decide to grab all of it and run back to the couch.
sohee’s light snores told you he was still fast asleep and luckily for you, he could sleep through the sound of a building being demolished.
“i’m sure daddy won’t mind…” you whisper to yourself as you grab an assortment of face paint colours, planning to make sohee look like one of the clowns you’d seen at disney world months ago.
you furrow your eyebrows in concentration and waste no time drawing all over his face, only backing up whenever he’d move or make a noise. “almost done! he’s gonna love it so much!” you giggle to yourself again, adding a few finishing touches.
by the end of it sohee looked interesting to say the least. white makeup extended down to his neck, and a rainbow of colours outlined his mouth and eyes. it would’ve scared the life out of anyone who walked through your front door, but to you it was a masterpiece.
sohee stirs around on the couch before sitting up and rubbing his eyes, somehow missing the amount of white paint coming off on his hands. he looks over at you and smiles, running his fingers through your hair and leaving a streak of paint behind.
you try your best to not laugh, but sohee looked absolutely silly right now. he raises an eyebrow and crosses his arms. “what did you do?”
“absolutely nothing! i just played and coloured.” not believing you one bit, sohee mumbles out a “sure.” and walks away, still mumbling to himself about what you could’ve done while he was asleep.
you go back to playing and wait for sohee to discover the “beautiful” face painting you gave him while he was sleeping.
while playing, you hear a faint scream in the distance.
“daddy must’ve seen my art!” you run over to him and give sohee a toothy grin once he looks at you, completely mortified at the clown makeup.
“y/n, baby, what did you do to me?”
“i made daddy into a clown!” sohee starts to rub the paint off with his hands, though it only leaves them coated in white and red. “i can see that very clearly. but why?!”
“umm…” you trail off, unable to give any explanation besides “cause i wanted to.” which you knew sohee wouldn’t accept as an answer.
“why didn’t you wake me up and ask if i wanted my face painted?” you pout and look away.
sohee didn’t seem as happy with your artwork as you thought, and now you’re beginning to regret having the idea in the first place.
“i thought daddy would like it.” sohee starts wiping his face with a towel. just as he’s about to scold you for lathering his face with pore-clogging paint, he hears you begin to sniffle.
“aw baby, you don’t have to cry. daddy isn’t upset. you just have to tell me the next time you want to do my makeup. even if i’m sleeping, okay?” he pulls you into a hug and winces when he sees the amount of green paint in your hair. “sorry, daddy.” you respond, still feeling upset.
sohee holds in a shriek once he notices the paint still all over your hands now ruining his favourite shirt. “it’s okay, little one.”
“just help me get this off, okay? y’know, seunghan is coming over tomorrow. i’m sure he’d love it if you did his makeup too.”
your face lights up as you imagine all the ways you’d draw on seunghan, giggling and bouncing when you settle on making him into a lion.
“m’ gonna make seunghannie a lion!”
“he’s gonna be so excited, baby.” sohee says, hiding his smirk with a face towel.
you stand on your tippy toes, trying to see over the heads of the people passing by in hopes to see school crush!sohee coming to meet you at the corner of the street so you can walk to school together. you glance at your watch, she's late, as per usual. when you look back up you see sohee running towards you, a piece of toast hanging from her mouth and you can hear her muffled, "sorry i'm late!"
you don't seem to really register what sohee says because the only thought in you head is that she looks like a cute puppy. you just smile at her and brush her messy, curly hair out of her face, "it's okay. let's go now."
