Summary: Bucky and the reader hang out after their latest mission.
A/N I posted this on my old Bucky sideblog before and now I’m merging that blog with this one.
The Winter Soldier that everyone knew was a hard unfeeling, man. They would work with him, but no one other than you and Steve actually went out of their way to spend time with him. Not that any of the team would ever admit it, but they all shared a common fear of him. Of the monster he use to be. They didn’t all realize it, but that was the reason they avoided him, whether intentionally or not.
You, on the other hand, had been saved by Bucky very soon after he joined the team. You were being tortured by a group of Hydra members for top secret Shield intel. They had you locked up and weaponless. Bucky broke in to the facility where they were holding you and he helped you escape. The two of you took out the rest of the Hydra group and after that, there was a certain connection between you both.
Over time, the bond between the two of you strengthened. You were the only person he would allow to have physical contact with him at all. While it was mostly just gentle brushes in passing, you knew what you had was better than most. With everyone else he would flinch away from the slightest brush of skin.
You were sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace next to Bucky. The two of you plus Steve and Wanda had just returned from a particularly grueling mission. You just wanted to plop down somewhere and stay there for the next year. You and Bucky were just relaxing and enjoying each others company. The crackling of the fire and the squishy couch cushions created a relaxing atmosphere to try and forget the events of the day.
The horrors and killings of the day flashed through your mind and all of a sudden you were craving human comfort. You glanced over at Bucky on your left and suddenly your brain made the impulsive decision to lean into the man. He flinched at your sudden touch, feeling threatened at first. You burrowed closer into his body and he realized what you were trying to do. He hesitantly lifted his arm up onto the sofa behind you which you took as an invitation to scoot even closer. You curled your legs up closer to your chest as his normal hand wrapped around your arm with a gentleness only you associate with him. You could tell that he needed the human contact just as much as you did. You rested your head on his chest and looked up into his face. Your eyes made contact with his and you saw a sparkle behind them. Seeing this, a huge grin lit up your face which made Bucky smile softly back at you.
“You know, you make a great pillow, Bucky,” you said, keeping your eyes focused on his.
“Glad I could help, doll,” Bucky replied chuckling slightly. Your faces were only inches apart and you could feel Bucky’s soft exhales ghost across your face. Something made you tilt your head up just enough to close the gap between your lips. You pressed your lips against his motionless ones. When he didn’t return the kiss, you started to pull away to break the connection. This motion shocked Bucky into reacting and he crashed his lips back against yours. Your eyes instinctively fluttered shut as you kissed him back. His normal hand pressed against the back of your head, his fingers tangling in your hair. The kiss was sweet and gentle and neither of you wanted to pull away.
When you finally broke apart for air, you kept your eyes closed and leaned back against the strong chest keeping you upright. Bucky’s hand remained tangled in your hair and you enjoyed the comforting touch. A smile lingered on your peaceful face. “Well, that was nice,” you mumbled into Bucky’s chest.
Your comment got a chuckle from Bucky. “I thought so too, Y/N.” You cherished this moment, cuddled up against Bucky. You knew that this was the first time that he was physically close with a person since he became the Winter Soldier. His acceptance of your touch showed you that he was slowly overcoming the horrors of his past. Soon, the two of you fell fast asleep, you cuddled up against Bucky and his arms wrapped around you.
You woke up to fingers gently playing with your hair. You realized that you were still curled up against Bucky’s chest and everything from last night flashed through your mind. You kissed Bucky! Bucky, the man you’d been drawn to ever since you met him.
You stirred a little against Bucky, your body stiff from sleeping on the couch all night. Bucky stopped stroking your hair immediately as if he had been caught doing something bad. “Morning, doll,” he said, angling his head down at you. You were still half asleep, but you could feel Bucky tense just a little under your weight.
“Don’t stop, Bucky,” you muttered. “It felt good.”
Bucky smiled to himself and tentatively placed his hand back on your head. “Sorry I woke you, Y/N,” Bucky said, weaving his fingers back into your hair. He began twisting and playing with your locks.
“Don’t be. Now we can spend more time together,” you said turning to kiss Bucky.
Just as your lips met, a male voice sounded from the other side of the room, “Finally! It took you guys long enough!” You looked over and saw Tony Stark leaning against the counter, smirking at the two of you.
You reacted instantly and took a pillow from the couch and hurled it at Tony. “Get out Tony!” you shouted and he took off out from the room, laughing like crazy.
“I’ll leave you lovebirds to it,” were the last words you heard before Tony disappeared from sight.
“Now where were we?” you asked Bucky as you turned to look back at him. A smirk was drawn across his face, probably due to your reaction to Tony.
“I think we were just about to do this,” he said, tilting your chin towards him. Your lips met and you closed your eyes and melted into the kiss.
