TW: Pet loss (just so you know what you’re getting into)
So this is a post I’ve been trying to avoid making but I’ll get it over and done with now.
As a few of you are aware the beginning of last month was extremely hard for me.
Basically on July 5th at about 12:30am I was doing my usual routine of feeding my pets but when I got to Gizmo something seemed a little off with the way he was walking, he ate as normal but as a precaution I picked him up to check on him, turns out he had a cloacal prolapse (Google that if you wanna know what that is) so I looked it up and it said that classed as an emergency so I rushed him to the nearest emergency exotic vet.
Now according to Google this was an easy fix, short vet visit, maybe leave him there for a few hours, ya know? Average stuff. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, turns out that Gizmo had an aggressive colon cancer tumour which was causing the prolapse, according to the vet he was hiding his pain for my sake. They mentioned they could try surgery to see if they could remove the tumour but “weren’t hopeful” and they didn’t think that he’d recover even if they were able to remove the tumour.
So I had to make the hardest decision I’ve ever made.
Gizmo was euthanised at roughly 5:30am because as much as it hurt me that was the best thing for him. I usually handle death quite well but since I wasn’t prepared for this one it hit me hard. The next day we buried him in a mug box that had the words “Lord Twat of Knobbington Manor” on it, which I thought was perfect considering how often I’d affectionately call him a twat.
Now something awkward about the timing, literally a week before all of this went down I bought a female leopard gecko from a breeder which I intended to breed with Gizmo and I gave her a name to match his. (Gadget. Gizmo and Gadget). And the breeder was going to send her to me in mid July. I did consider telling the breeder I could no longer take her but things felt way too empty with an empty enclosure in my room. So she’s here and honestly she’s really helped, so have my other pets. I’ll make a post introducing her soon but I had to get this one done first.
I’d just like to thank @sigyn-foxyposts for offering to help me pay for Gizmo’s surgery if I’d gone through with it, that was really sweet of you and I’ll be forever grateful that you offered to do that.
Below I’ve attached a few videos and pictures of Gizmo for you guys to see. Thank you all for reading ❤️ Cancer sucks.
