on-base design i made for a trading game in the stardragon server!

check out my Assault from space marine 2!! it was a lot of fun trying to translate as many details from the ingame model to the miniature, both in kitbash and in painting. hes not 100% game accurate, though i suppose you could say the game isnt 100% tabletop accurate really. forever cursing the fact the game doesnt and will probably never have a star dragons symbol to put on shoulder pads

ever since i learnt of the star dragons' close bond with the blood swords, i liked to imagine them joining the fight alongside their bloodthirsty cousins during the devastation of baal. and when i kitbashed this ancient together, i knew i had to depict this moment on a cherished relic banner. here it is :)

Gunfire in the distance lit up the choked green skies of Baal. The twisted tendrils of Leviathan had wrapped the planet up in its clutches, and the homeworld of the Blood Angels bled through the stars. Throngs of sleek chitin-clad creatures battered the weary defenders, all daughter chapters of the IXth legion. All, but one. The hazy yellow fires in the fog haloed the iridescent blue armour of a batch of fresh reinforcements. Glowing red eye lenses were masked by the golden roar of bolters gripped tightly. Each casing flung from wrathful weapons, a monster felled. Each drop of blood spent, another painful step towards salvation. The Star Dragons had joined the fight.

Draco is one of the largest northern constellations. It represents the dragon Ladon in Greek mythology. The constellation is home to the Cat

“Urania’s Mirror”, named after the Muse of astronomy; is a set of thirty-two cards depicting constellations, first published in the mid 1820s. Each card is punched with holes of various sizes, corresponding to the placement and magnitude of stars.

The Draco constellation was first documented by ancient Greek astronomers, who associated it with Ladon: the dragon who protected the Garden of the Hesperides.

Draco’s brightest star is Gamma Draconis, or Eltanin: Arabic for “the great serpent”. This orange giant is larger and brighter, but less hot than our own Sun.

The binary star Alpha Draconis, or Thuban (Arabic for “the snake”), was the pole star thousands of years ago; and will become the pole star again in 21,000 years time.

The Draconids Meteor shower, which can be seen every year in early October; is named for, and associated with, this constellation.

i absolutely love this multi-part lieutenant, he has so many useful bits and a great pose with whatever you throw onto him.

im continuing to refine how i do highlights for these guys and hopefully that comes through! i find ragged edge highlights can really detract from a model so i've done my absolute best to avoid them.
