Hope Street - Chapter 2/?
The weekend came and went quickly for Steve. He spent Saturday in the shop, and Sunday playing board games with Skye and Laura while it poured outside. The cats had stayed in all day, preferring the comfort of the couch over the rain and winds. They had tried to get the humans’ attention in vain until Nat had come home from her run, drenched.
After she had showered, she laid on the couch amongst the cats, giving them all the love the poor creatures had been deprived of. She had opened the loft’s doors to the stray cats she had found around town. Laura liked to say they were all strays, saved by Steve and Nat and offered a home when they were lost.
She and Skye had been in bad shape and basically home less when they had crossed path with Steve and Natasha.
Laura had just left an abusive foster house and was wandering around New York. She met the red head at the park at the corner of the street after spending the night on a bench. Nat had walked past her in the early hours of morning and had come back ten minutes later with a hot cup of coffee and a bagel. She had not asked Laura why she was alone, sleeping in a park in New York in December, with only a backpack. Instead, she had offered a safe place and a warm bed for a few nights. The few nights turned into weeks and almost a year and half later, Laura had a home and a family she did not need to run from. She had even started going back to school, determined to get her diploma and get into college. At sixteen, she had lived through awful circumstances and survived. And now, she had a place in the world she felt loved and wanted.
When Laura had come to live on the loft, there was only Steve, Nat and Bucky in the loft, and two cats. Today, Skye lived with them, and three more cats. Bucky had moved out to move in with Sam, finally.
Skye had stayed in her van for a while before Steve convinced her to move back in the loft. She had lived with Steve and Nat all through college, and after she had graduated as a full-fledged computer nerd she had lost her brother in a car accident and had decided to leave the city for a while. She went on a road trip, living in her van for a year. She had crossed the country and had seen all she was supposed to see with her brother. They had always talked about taking the van and driving to the other side of the continent, to see the Pacific Ocean. Just the two of them and the open road.
She agreed to come back to the loft after spending a month living in her van parked in from of the tattoo shop. And it took her another month to ask Steve to teach her to tattoo. She had always liked it, even had gotten a few herself over the years. She loved to doodle and had even taken an art class in college, but it was only now that she had been on her own for a while that she had admitted wanting to pursue a more artistic career.
Skye had done a lot of growing up over the last year and a half, and now that she was home, she wanted to live her best life.
