TOPS share new single "Direct Sunlight"

New album ‘I Feel Alive’ due April 3rd via Musique TOPS - Tour dates to be rescheduled Today, Montreal four-piece TOPS have shared a final pre-release song from their forthcoming album 'I Feel Alive' whichwill be released on April 3rd via their own label Musique TOPS.  Recalling the best of Prefab Sprout, album opener "Direct Sunlight" flaunts classic pop songwriting highlighted by bouncy synths, the ever breezy vocals of Jane Penny, and even a whimsical flute solo. The dazzling, bright melodies belie a more serious sentiment lingering in the shadows. The track is the latest offering from the new album following "Colder & Closer," "Witching Hour," and the album's title-track.  Speaking on the song, Penny says: "I went to this outdoor pool with Olympic style diving boards one summer day in Berlin, and when I tried to jump off the middle one, I think it was about 5 metres high, I really surprised myself when I realised that I'm terrified of heights. My whole body entered this panicked state, the phobia kicked in right away, and I had to do the walk of shame down the ladder and back to the pool. I wanted to capture that duality, the way that even the sunniest days can have this underlying darkness to them, and how it's not just the physical reaction to fear that casts the shadows, but more how the ever-looming possibilities of loss or discontent are revealed. I wrote this song to remind myself that it's up to me to choose the perspective that I take." AUGUSTUS MULLER (BOY HARSHER) releases original score for adult films 'Orgone Theory' & 'Hydra'

'Machine Learning Experiments' out 10/04 on Nude Club Augustus Muller, one half of Massachusetts electronic duo Boy Harsher, releases two original scores through own label Nude Club records on April 10th. The films, ‘Orgone Theory’ and ‘Hydra,’ are Muller’s first foray into scoring. Both films were produced by UK based collective Four Chambers. Four Chambers, or A Four Chambered Heart, produces adult material that focuses on DIY practices and non-traditional bodies and narratives. Four Chambers is self-described by creator Vex Ashley as “deliberately ambiguous, rejecting labels for both (the) films and performers, existing in-between genres of both art and pornography and dismissing the need for a definition of either.” After a successful collaboration between Boy Harsher and Four Chambers, with the film ‘Archetype,’ Vex sought a direct collaboration between Muller. ‘Hydra’ is a short, sci-fi experience studying invasion and consumption. KATIE GATELY shares second track & accompanying video from forthcoming album 'Loom'

On February 14th via Houndstooth, Electronic musician and producer Katie Gately will release 'Loom', her new album dedicated to her mother who passed away in 2018 due to a sudden onset of a particularly aggressive form of cancer. Today, she presents a new single/video, “Waltz” and shares details of a show at London's Cafe Oto on April 1st. Following lead single “Bracer,” new track “Waltz” originated after Gately listened to her late mother’s favourite artist Leonard Cohen's track “Take This Waltz” on repeat for an entire day. Her track pulses with a demented survivalist’s mulishness, and reflects the sleepless headspace Gately was in when her mother’s health began a rapid decline. The accompanying video directed by Samantha Shay was filmed at an abandoned Catholic convent and stars famed modern dancer Bobbi Jene Smith opposite Gately, who appears in her own video for the first time ever. “When I listen, I see images that correlate to a zebra on a bad LSD trip,” says Gately. “But I feel that its absurdity honors the chaos of losing someone you love more than time, space or measure. And so perhaps my message is: it’s okay to feel like a drunk zebra when your heart is breaking. Or… to quote the far greater poet Leonard Cohen: ‘When things get really bad, just raise your glass and stamp your feet and do a little jig. That’s about all you can do.’” “When I work with a musician, there is a wide spectrum to feelings about being filmed or photographed, and Katie expressed that she didn’t feel comfortable on camera,” says director Sam Shay. “The day of the shoot I asked Katie if she wanted to be challenged as a performer or not, and she practically demanded it of me. Chicago duo 'Drama' share new track "Nine One One"

As a lyricist, Rosa takes her blues and makes them vibrant — rather than wallow alone, she sashays. “This album is dedicated to the people watching their friend’s love-lives grow and happen around them, and not having anyone,” notes Rosa. There is lush lovelorn affliction blended into the tracks on ‘Dance Without Me’.   Rosa grew up in a musical household; her parents played in a reggae band and toured as a family, homeschooling Rosa into her early teens and limiting her listening primarily to Sade, oldies, Brazilian and Afrobeat music. She kept poetry journals and by high school started writing songs and making beats. After moving to Chicago in 2010, Rosa connected with THEMPeople, a collective at the center of the city’s sprawling hip-hop scene. Meanwhile, Shehade inherited an entrepreneurial drive from his late father, who immigrated from Palestine to the United States in the 1970s to build a better life. Born in Chicago, Shehade fell in love with DJ culture as a kid and took up music production and engineering; his interest eventually led to professional opportunities, including early studio work with Chance the Rapper, Kanye West, and music projects for MTV and Bravo. HATCHIE rounds off 2019 with new video for "Her Own Heart"

Debut album 'Keepsake' out now on Heavenly Brisbane's Hatchie rounds off an incredibly successful 2019 with a suitably wistful video to accompany the delicate shoegaze-pop of "Her Own Heart". Released in June via Heavenly recordings, debut album 'Keepsake' saw Harriette Pilbeam deliver a kaleidoscopic sonic palette, drawing out distinct moods and tones, revealing her depth and imagination as a musician and songwriter. The record serves as a document of a particularly kinetic moment in her life. "Stay true to your heart and don't look back" she urges on one of the album's more ethereal moments, "Her Own Heart" - a song about self-belief and self-acceptance. POLIÇA announce new album & share first single "Driving"

Today the band are sharing the first single & video from the album, "Driving".  When Poliça’s Channy Leaneagh fell off her roof while clearing ice in early 2018, she smashed her L1 vertebrae and battered her spine, leaving her in a brace with limited mobility for months. Yet Poliça’s fourth album, 'When We Stay Alive', is not about one debilitating accident. It’s about the redemptive power of rewriting your story in order to heal, and reclaiming your identity as a result. With a video directed by Isaac Gale, Leaneagh explains the meaning behind the first single "Driving" as she says "Laying in bed, as I healed from a 10 foot fall of carelessness with my life, I would dream of running in green grass and tears would pour from my eyes. “Running in the tall tear grass; imagine wanting life and the want remains.” That is a feeling to hold onto; that life is worth living even when all the towers are crumbling and this goes beyond my own little accident but the world around me. A second chance you won’t forget”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djlZf1J0wqI While recovering, Leaneagh’s doctor told her to focus not only on physical healing, but to meditate on the mental act of healing as well – working to erase the anger, regrets, and fear she felt about her fall. To do so, he suggested she rewrite the story she told herself about what happened on February 28th. Left alone with her thoughts and her back fully braced, Leaneagh would visualize herself slipping and falling not onto cement, but instead onto a cloud, landing safely before breaking into a sprint over snow melting to reveal tall blades of green grass. As she felt the positive effects of this mental exercise, she set about doing the same for other injuries and pains that she gripped onto from her past. Prior to Leaneagh’s accident, she had been setting music aside as she raised her children and worked to make ends meet as a nursing assistant. Now in the still silence of healing, she found that a multitude of feelings were becoming very loud. Leaneagh realized her self-identity had become attached to her experiences of physical and mental trauma, and she began to consider what it would be like to live without the past as a burden. “I felt there were many things I could look at and say, ‘This happened to me but I’m okay now. It’s not happening anymore and I got the care I needed for it. Now it’s time to rewrite the story I tell about myself and to myself,’" she explains. While half of 'When We Stay Alive' was written before the fall, and half afterwards, the tracks meld together in a coherent and redemptive sonic whole. Those written before the fall relay ideas with a more heightened sense of anxiety and distress: the rousing “Forget Me Now” interrogates what makes two people bring out the worst in each other, while on the soulful “Steady,” Leaneagh struggles with the sudden pressure of becoming the head of her immediate family after her parents moved away. “TATA” was inspired by the challenge of keeping a cool head in the face of tense community meetings where anger continues to rise against Northern Metals, a north Minneapolis company under fire for pollution issues. Inspired by the power found in her healing process, on the second batch of songs Leaneagh tried a slightly different approach, working to reevaluate her past, difficult personal experiences and bring in a sense of insight, strength, and light that perhaps wasn’t there at the time. The stirring “Feel Life” captures Leaneagh’s process of recasting pain as an alarm to live and see beyond what we lack. She takes back her sense of self on the haunting “Be Again,”a song recorded as she relearned to sing while wearing a brace. “For me this song is a meditation to myself,” Leaneagh explains. “To come back from the disassociation I’ve lived with most of my life.” “Blood Moon” sees her examining how keeping this sort of guard up can prove more precariously isolating than protective. “I can look back and see how music has always been here for me to be loud, say what I feel and ask for what I need in these songs I write,” she says. “I always find my courage again on the stage – that is where I feel alive, and for that I am eternally grateful for music and the people that I make it with.” 'When We Stay Alive' possesses a new confidence in its sound, reflected in its fierce, determined songs and anchored by the heavy synths and punctuating beats of Poliça co-founder and producer Ryan Olson. Over the last several years Olson and Leaneagh have widely collaborated with musicians from all over the world: both with Bon Iver, and Leaneagh individually with Boys Noize, Lane 8, Sasha, Leftfield, and Daniel Wohl; Olson with Swamp Dogg in addition to countless musicians from the 37d03d collective. As a result, 'When We Stay Alive' features one of the largest musical casts of any Poliça record to date. To create the album, Olson brought his favorite collaborators into his studio for all-night sessions. He’d then send Leaneagh the files to write lyrics to while recovering at home, which she’d record alone or with engineer Alex Proctor. Drummers Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu colored the songs with a new approach – drastically changing the rhythmic dynamic from previous efforts by creating an indistinguishable hybrid of live and electronic instrumentation--and bassist Chris Bierden provided a melody-laden low-end as well as more layered backing vocals than ever before. On Poliça’s first three albums, Leaneagh focused on restructuring the world and her relationships within it. On 'When We Stay Alive', she realises the power in restructuring her inner self. CORRIDOR: Montreal band share third single from Sub Pop debut, 'Junior,' out Oct 18th.
