Ok, first off, Ruby’s nickname for Sapphire is Sapphy. For all you fans who don’t know much about ancient Greek history, or about Victorian interpretations of that history, this has a whole layer of historic meaning... Sappho was a female poet who wrote love poems about women, and was highly regarded as one of the best poets of the ancient world. She lived and wrote largely on the Greek island of Lesbos, though fragments of her poetry have been found all around the Mediterranean. Starting to sound familiar? Yep, she’s the reason the word “lesbian” exists. Around the same time as that, Victorian people started referring to women who were into women with another term as well... SAPPHIC. So Sapphy is, in fact, sapphy!

Also, ever since the end of Keystone, all I can think about is Pearl coming up to Steven and asking if Garnet talked about her, and if Garnet could forgive her, and Steven just giving her a stupid grin and saying, “She was... divided... on the matter...” and everyone groaning so hard from the pain of the pun that they retreat into their gems and Greg is just left standing next to Steven thinking “this is why I avoid gem stuff...”
