Historically, a "foot" or a "cubit" depended entirely on whose body was doing the measuring; such a system was ripe for dispute and variation across borders.
Even the standard meter bar housed in Sèvres has been retired in favor of an absolute, unbreakable constant—the distance light travels in a vacuum.
Universal precision has officially replaced the subjective human scale.

Their creator has disavowed them. The measure and definition is different for every team that uses it. They sow confusion, create conflict, unreliable timelines, are easily gamed, demotivate and degrade the performance of your team.
This is a lengthy article but the TL;DR; is that story points are flawed and measuring the number of tasks (e.g. the work queue) can be more accurate.
The author makes a number of valid and compelling points. Interestingly, tools like Azure DevOps have native fields that can track both story points and task queues. This means it is possible to stick with Agile points while at the same time exploring if we get more value from task queue size.
Answer all your or your stakeholders questions about story points and how to convert them to time (TL;DR? Don't).
