Dilemma of a Secondary School Student: Science or Humanities?
We READ for getting information that can be used for various purposes such as getting knowledge, getting entertained etc.
We STUDY, that is we observe and note (in written form, printed form or in our conscious as well as in subconscious mind) and learn things that may be used (by us or by others) to improve our life.
We get TRAINED to achieve solutions to problems humankind faces in the present or may face in future.
If you want to read, just read. You don’t need to know what to read, and you don’t need someone or some organisation/institution to tell you what to read. (YOU DON’T NEED A SCHOOL FOR THIS, GOOGLE IS ENOUGH!)
If you want to study, you can observe anything and everything that makes sense to you. It can be the movement of ants or the movement of the stars or the amount of irritation associated with the degree of temperature or the relation between the name of a king and the happiness of the kingdom…it can be anything i.e. anything. But it must be a continuous effort. Wise people call it research. Gautam Buddha did this, Newton did this, Faraday did this, P. D. Ouspensky did this, Euclid did this, Edward Jenner did this . . . (You may be in the list after few hundred years). (YOU DON’T NEED A SCHOOL FOR THIS, GOOGLE is neither necessary nor sufficient, but may shorten your time for the research)
But if you want to get trained, you need formal education i.e. school or college. Our education system is all about training. We learn logic and calculation through Mathematics, Language, Terminology and definitions, Visualization through Literature, Skill through Art and sculpture and we learn to improvise from our past success and failures through History. We learn about our habitat (Geography) so we can search for solutions (and prospective problems). We learn to interact with our present society through Civics and past society through Anthropology etc.
One can learn about most of the Humanities part at any stage of their life. But it is difficult to learn logic and skill in the later stage.
So, you go for the path that keeps your options open. Go for Science, that too with Mathematics (even if you opt for Biology).
If you find Mathematics difficult to understand, Axisa Academy and Exium Classes can help you.
