I had a feeling that Connie would save Steven. In Steven Universe, he was focusing on honing his gem powers; in Steven Universe Future, he’s losing touch with his humanity, and no one makes him more human than Connie.
Connie did more than that though, she called out everyone for making Steven’s pain about themselves (even though she agreed it was their fault) and started the lovefest that healed him. She was the last one to comfort him, and kissed him in his monster form, which turned him human. It reminded me of when he turned back into a baby on his 14th birthday and Connie still wanted to hang out with him. Their love is deep.
She knew he was bullshitting her on the phone, and it brought me back to “Full Disclosure,” the first time she pushed back when he pushed her away. Connie is also the only person in Steven’s group who never fucked him over, and gives him unconditional love. They’re perfect for each other.
The fact that they kissed like it was the most natural thing in the world, like a married couple before they head off to work, was beautiful and so them. It’s my phone background—until now, I hadn’t changed it since 2014. I loved the hug and the hand holding and the blushing. I know Steven and Connie weren’t always “together” (?) but they kind of were. They’ve never been with anyone else, and they never will be; they’re going to get married, and oh Christ, how fucking beautiful is that. People thought—and I did too—that Connie might get a boyfriend because Steven hadn’t “made a move” or to prove he was isolated. I’m so, so happy to be wrong. I’m so happy in general. These kids who have known each other since they were 13 and 11 and three quarters are grown up now and when they grow up a bit more, Garnet will plan their wedding. I’m so glad that @rebeccasugar ended it on such a beautiful note, but if the crewniverse were to give us a short with Steven and Connie’s wedding á la Tangled Ever After, I wouldn’t complain.
Side note: I love how well Connie and Greg get along, and have always gotten along. That’s going to be a nice in-law relationship.
