Terence Davies (1945-2023) era el más grande director británico vivo. No tuvo el éxito comercial de John Boorman o el reconocimiento en festivales de Ken Loach. Pero ningún otro director británico retrató mejor la cultura popular de la postguerra, la alegría de los momentos mundanos y la crueldad de las convencios sociales como Davies. Terence Davies (1945-2023) was the greatest living British director. He didn't have the commercial success of John Boorman or the festival recognition of Ken Loach. But no other British director portrayed post-war popular culture, the joy of mundane moments and the cruelty of social conventions better than Davies. He privileged the gaze of children and women, but also gave prominence to his hometown, Liverpool. Davies gave voice to his homosexuality as well as his religious faith. He lavished happy and merciless endings alike. He wrote original stories, with great autobiographical overtones, but he was also an effective adapter of novels; not in vain, he filmed two biopics about eminent poets. Terence Davies expanded the horizons of British cinema while making personal and moving films. RIP.

📽️ Sunset Song (2015)

This is a sad movie. It’s also pretty long with a lot of wasted time and empty space, so be prepared for that if you decide to watch it. But I also feel like it’s more true to life than most movies. It doesn’t necessarily end the way you would think it would, but life isn’t always great. I can’t imagine this being anyone’s favorite movie, but it’s definitely worth a watch.

Sex/nudity: 6/10 (several non-explicit sex scenes with some rear nudity, marital rape, female frontal nudity, kissing/making out, sex noises —don’t know how else to describe that one— heard)

Language: 2/10 (I remember some but I don’t remember how much or how bad it was)

Violence: 3/10 (I don’t really remember but IMDb says that one character beats another multiple times, plus the rapes)

Overall rating: 5/10
