Supernatural Selection's 2026 Zine: Alien Invasion - Submissions Open

Hello! I am one of the editors to this year's Supernatural Selection zine and our theme is aliens, UFOs, UAPs, and all that fun stuff. Our last zine was in 2024 and focused primarily on cryptids. This year, though, we're obsessed with aliens.

Please join us for the Supernatural Selection 2026 zine project, "Alien Invasion."

Supernatural Selection is a comedy podcast that explores weird history, the occult, and Fortean topics, and we wanted to create another zine project that anyone is welcome to join. Whether you write, draw, or both, we invite you to join us (also feel free to check out the show or join the Discord).

You can find information about the zine at the official webpage, as well as download our previous zine, Cryptid Encounters 2024.

In broad points, here is what you probably want to know up front:

The theme is aliens, UFOs, and the like.

We make no claim on your work, anyone can download and print/distribute the published zine as they wish.

We want to keep things PG-13 (despite the nature of the podcast).

We are hoping to share art and writing - technical details on the website.

Submission window is at the end at the end of June.

You don't have to be a listener of the podcast.

Anyway, that's about it. We'll make some submission reminders over the next few months, so keep an eye out and we look forward to seeing what arrives.

The Supernatural Selection 2024 Cryptid Encounter Zine is still taking submissions!

We are in the back half of the zine submissions period, so if you love monsters and cryptids and would like to submit art or writing for the zine now is a great time to send your work in. We are collecting material until the end of June 2024.

Remember that once the Zine is available, you are free to distribute and resell it as you wish at conventions and art fairs. We make no claims on your art or writing.

We will be posting zine updates here on the Tumblr account for the podcast from here out. We are eager to see what cryptid content shows up in our inbox.

Zine Details

Cryptid Encounters 2024 is a zine that celebrates cryptids and invites writers and artists to contribute material. Love cryptids and monsters? This is the zine for you!

The zine will be available for free download upon publication at the Supernatural Selection zine archive.

Participants can print, redistribute, and sell the zine as they see fit at conventions but cannot modify the contents. Participants retain all rights to their work included within the zine, and the Supernatural Selection podcast team makes no claim to the material, only the ability to archive and distribute the zine.

The current submission period is January 1st, 2024, to June 30th, 2024.

It's time! My little podcast with my buds, Supernatural Selection, is launching a yearly zine, and we're about ready to take submissions for the 2024 edition. If you like drawing or writing about cryptids we want you to join us!

You retain the rights to your work, and once the zine is out and in the wild, you are free to print, distribute, and sell as you see fit. More details at the website.

One of the fun parts of editing the zine is that I can just... throw my own drawings in since we have space to fill. I also happened to be researching Yokai for an episode of the podcast and found the Kappa to be a particularly anxiety-laden critter - at least, that is my interpretation.

So, the first of what will probably be several drawings I do for the Cryptid Encounter 2024 zine ended up being a Kappa. (Technically, the cover was first, but you know what I mean.)

I also have a color version of the lil guy going up on the show's Patreon as a new installment of our Monster Club trading card series.

Anyway, just figured I would share this zine update.

Remember that zine submissions are currently open through June 30th, so if you have art or writing about cryptids and monsters, we would love to add them!

This past week, we recorded a Supernatural Selection episode I wrote regarding Waverly Hills Sanatorium, one of the most haunted places in America, some say.

I researched the topic and wrote the episode. We spend a little more time on the historiography of the place compared to some topics, but the world of tuberculosis and medicine of the period is fascinating.

I am pleased with the results.
