The waning flame dances alone at dusk to the steady thrumming of the rain. At least it was sheltered underneath tempered glass of a lantern, the same could not be said for the unlucky duo.
Cold, wet clothes began to stick and cling to her and her boots squished and squelched in the mud. Had she known the forecast called for showers and gray clouds, perhaps she would have brought along an extra layer to keep warm. One hand comes to hold the opposite arm attempting to preserve any lasting heat while the other held the lantern. If she was feeling cold now, she could only imagine how the missing hunters must have felt, how scared they must be if the folklore was true.
Tana shakes her head. None of it made sense, surely the hunters must have had family and friends that worried for their safety. How long had they been gone and why has no one else sought these answers? She didn’t want to complain, out loud that was, she was grateful to be chosen for this mission, but it did make her raise a brow at how capable the academy thought of their students. Or maybe it was an easy hiring job. Either way, her main priorities should lie in the whereabouts of these people.
“Hey, what do you think?” She holds the lantern a little higher so the light catches his face. “About the hunters, could they have really disappeared just like that? They would surely have better survival instincts being... hunters and all, right?”
As soon as she suggests this, the sound of thunder booms above them. Her gaze lifts to the sky, hopeful that it might let up soon. “Seeking shelter for a moment might be wise,” she muses.
