The Marked Men “Fix My Brain” 2006. Dirtnap Records (2010 reissue, originally released on Swami Records). Today, July 3rd, is Dirtnap Ken’s birthday (and it’s a big one! 😉🥳) so I’m spinning one of the records he generously gave me from his stash. Though the record originally came out on Swami, The Marked Men released their preceding LP, On the Outside (2004) on Dirtnap and returned to Dirtnap for their 4th album, Ghosts in 2009. In between came Fix My Brain - it’s tight garage punk that leans toward power pop, fun and catchy as hell...little chunks of hard bopping guitar hook-driven power (most songs hover around the 2 minute mark): think happy punk in the spirit of the Ramones. My top tracks are “It’s Not a Crime,” “A Little Lesson,” “Someday” and “You Said Enough.”

Recently acquired at the Vinyl Revolution Record Fair for $30. This is as great album of driving hard rock from Swami John Reis and The Notorious ND, with Mr. Speedo on bass (and vocals). Catchy and kick ass start to finish. I’d get rid of my CD of this now, but I can’t find it. No matter.

Vinyl of the night: Rocket From the Crypt "All Systems Go 2" I got a good theme goin tonight and as such Imma ride it til the wheels fall off. The first release on John Reis' Swami Records was this double album collection of rarities, B-sides, 7" singles, and covers. Rocket is in vintage form here tearing through 25 tracks and leaving ya wishing there were 25 more...

Recently enjoyed. Ordered from the label upon release. Killer playing. Killer rock moves. Speedo is a killer rock brand and he's tearing it up on this.
