Stretching in front of his apartment door it took a moment for Hiccup to clear his thoughts. A long day in the office, so to speak. His studio piece was out to destroy him and his professor had found his hidden cot so he was “asked” to go home. The professor meant well, but he was so close to finishing, but working with a blowtorch and a lack of sleep wasn’t a healthy combination. Cracking open the door he took a step inside before having to press his entire body against the door to close it. Last thing they, Hiccup and his roommate Jim, needed was Toothless to get out. The no cats policy ordered by the landlord ridiculous in Hiccup’s opinion.
Taking a step inside the dual living room/kitchen he felt his feline friend curl around his leg. Jim, from what he could tell, was taking up the couch that they might have taken off the street and sleeping. Huffing under his breath, Hiccup moved to the end where Jim’s feet didn’t completely cover and gently pushed them aside to sit. His leg was too sore and he needed to let it breathe.
“I’m getting to old for this.”
Whatever this was, Hiccup didn’t know too tired to think.

“They dooooon’t? You could have fooled me. You act so emotionless all the time I figured you’d forgotten how to feel at all.”
Her mouth presses against his in a chaste kiss, so he could feel rather than see her smile. “How about you keep those feelings hidden away for just a little wihle longer hmm? I’ll meet you at our spot. Soon. Like ... another hour? I have to meet with some visiting Lord and his son but then it’s just you and me, okay?”
“Yeeeeees,” she replies, bouncing the gurgling toddler on her lap. “He likes the show and so do I. It teaches you about fruit salads and how you can use a feather instead of a sword and the songs are catchy.”
“Hmm? Where did you steal this from huh? I can’t imagine you just walked up to a vender and paid for it.” Not when there were so many roses in the garden already. “In any case, it’s beautiful. Thank you.”

“I don’t think that’s a viable way to live your life, Jimmy. If you go around kicking things because you don’t like how it’s acting then you’ll just look like a big baby throwing a tantrum.”
Is your character more likely to admire wisdom, or ambition in others?
I feel like that’s a hard one for Hiccup. It has been shown that he appreciates people with intellect and experience in areas that he lacks. And at the same time he is surrounded in a culture of people that are ambitious and have a sense of agency. However, ambition can lead to someone flying into action without thinking ahead of certain consequences, which Hiccup doesn’t care for. Despite having that problem himself
Both is a cheap answer, so if I had to pick one it would have to be ambition.
What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?
I think a problem that Hiccup has as a whole, which can lead to the demise of certain people in his life is his stubbornness. This is something he recognizes and see’s that his stubbornness in his beliefs being the right way of thinking is the same as arrogance. If in a romantic relationship I think that would cause a lot of problems, as well as being slightly scatter brained and focusing on one thing at a time when it comes to projects. Besides that these things haven’t destroyed a romantic relationship, but will make them difficult.
In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?
In the beginning of his life he compared himself to those around him as self-criticism. He was very aware that he was the “other” in a society and while he tries to make himself fit into a predesignate mold it never goes well. As an adult I think he continues to do that, but the same way a teenager or young adult see’s an older adult and criticizes their own way of living for not meeting an expectation. Even though that isn’t particularly true dudes. For that I see Hiccup cynicism and sarcasm to himself as a way to criticize himself for meeting his own preconceived idea for a “normal adult/person of society”. Not that he lets that rule over him either.
If something tragic or negative happens to your character, do they believe they may have caused or deserved it, or are they quick to blame others?
HHAAAAAAAAAAAAA *shoves survivors guilt @you* Hiccup is ready to take the blame for problems or something tragic since we are shown that was kind of how things worked in Berk. Something went wrong, Hiccup’s fault obviously. Now as an adult, meh people don’t do that unless they are anti-dragon which is an anomaly on Berk atm. However, when you grow up with people blaming you for almost everything you are going to do that naturally. Even so when the coughdeathofStoickcough happened he takes responsibility because he realizes that it was his idea to reason with an unreasonable psycho and he paid for it sadly.
“ I was a fan of the blues since I was in my daddy’s sack, if you know what I mean! ”

“I mean blue is a very pretty color — the sky, the ocean, those flowers in my room. My favorite dress. Why! Even my crown uses blue. Isn’t it strange how calming blue can be and yet when someone is sad you say’why so blue?’ where do you think that came from? And why were you put in a sack? ”
“For someone who makes a point of mentioning how he doesn’t care about what anyone thinks of him,” she pauses to take a sip of her lemonade before continuing, “that is a very surprising question to ask. I think you’re amazing Jim, it should be plainly obvious. Hmm?”
