ACTORS SHARE VILLAINS THEY'D STILL LIKE TO PLAY DURING DC FANDOME PANEL
The DC FanDome "All Super Villains" panel on Saturday (Sept. 12) featured an impressive array of actors — from animation, movies, video games and TV shows — who have all played some of the comic book canon's greatest supervillains.
Gina (Catwoman in the 2004 animated series The Batman) participated in the panel.
No matter whom they play, all the actors shared the same philosophy about portraying a supervillain. "A great antagonist has a completely believable drive," explained Jason Isaacs. "There's something that we understand as an audience. In other situations, we've had those same either petty or grandiose impulses. They just come in conflict with the main character. All of us, I think, like to play well-written, well-rounded characters, being driven by something that you don't often understand yourself but that the audience gets."
"I think one of the reasons it's so much fun to play characters like that is that they're really super vulnerable," said Gina Gershon. "They're all deeply flawed, and something has happened to them to make them become what they are. So they're supervillains, but intense stuff has happened to them, which I think as an actor, it's really fun to play that, because as horrible or devious as they can be, they're just as vulnerable the other way. That's why people really love them."

GOOD OMENS PUTS A FEMINIST AND QUEER TWIST ON THE APOCALYPSE
“At first, the queerness feels like subtext, like another time queer audiences have to read between the lines to see the love we so often wish for, but it’s hard to miss the genuine love and commitment between Aziraphale and Crowley. There’s an interaction so tender — and a line so potently delivered by Sheen that it will make your heart flutter and sink — that calling their love subtext feels impossible.
Aziraphale has just provided Crowley with holy water so that if he decides he must, Crowley can end his existence. Aziraphale isn’t exactly happy about it, but he’d rather help Crowley than see him get hurt trying to steal holy water. An enthused Crowley offers Aziraphale a ride.
“Perhaps one day we could, I don’t know, go for a picnic. Dine at the Ritz,” Aziraphale says tentatively.
“Anywhere you want to go, I’ll take you,” Crowley replies.
“You go too fast for me, Crowley,” Aziraphale says before exiting the car.
It’s a short exchange, but it is so tense, so emotionally charged, so filled with love and hesitation and desire that I don’t know how anyone could come to any conclusion other than that Aziraphale and Crowley are nonbinary, asexual partners who have been together and falling in love for over 6,000 years.
