Photos: Korean-American actor Ricky Kim’s kids charm Singapore fans
Ricky Kim may be a popular actor and reality TV star but he was no match for his children who stole the show at a meet-and-greet session in Singapore on Saturday (7 May).
The placards and deafening cheers from the 3,500-strong crowd at the event at at Waterway Point were mostly for his daughter Tae Rin, 5, and his son Tae Oh, 3. The family was in Singapore to promote the hit parenting variety show “Oh! My Baby” as well as to film a special episode in Sentosa.
Before bringing Tae Rin and Tae Oh on stage, the 34-year-old Kim requested that the fans avoid screaming too loudly because the kids get scared easily “like little dogs”. But it was to no avail once the kids appeared, as a simple “hello” greeting from them was enough to drive the fans wild, with shouts of “Tae Oh” ringing around the venue.
Though Tae Rin and Tae Oh were shy at first, they quickly warmed up thanks to the many toys and chocolates that they received from their fans.
Tae Oh was fascinated with a cute bear doll made in the likeness of Kai, his celebrity doppelganger from Korean idol group EXO. Photos of the boy clutching the doll were shared many times by fans of the group on Twitter.
Kim answered most of the questions from the media about his family. When asked about Singapore food, he revealed that his children love eating laksa and horfun.
He also paid tribute to his 38-year-old wife and musical actress Ryu Seung Joo.
“All the beauty and happiness that you see from these kids come from my wife. So you got to thank her too,” he said.
“Our wedding anniversary was two days ago, and it’s Mother’s Day too, so I prepared a special surprise,” he added.
Presenting his wife with a bouquet of flowers, the family then took a photo with the large crowd as the backdrop. Kim said that the family plans to visit Singapore again, with his youngest child - eight-month-old Tae Ra - tagging along next time.
The doting dad and husband later signed autographs for the fans and revealed about a possible movie role in Hollywood.
“I’ll do my best to be a good husband to my beautiful wife, a great father to my three kids and an awesome entertainer for all the fans,” he said.
Oh! My Baby currently airs every Saturday at 8.30pm on ONE (Singtel TV Channels 513, 604 and StarHub TV Channels 124, 820 and 823).
