I'm up to chapter twenty-something? I actually read some last night, for the first time in forever, and the Guardians came for Rose and Demetri and they've decided camping is the best option. The love interest is Sydney, isn't it? Maybe that's why I'm not super into R/D, it's so obvious. But then it shares /a lot/ of similarities with bangel and they are like my #1 otp? I also hated jess/nick because it was too obvi. The OC is actually quite good. It has it's issues, but its a pretty decent show

Wait, this is “Last Sacrifice” the last book right? I just saw a Rose/Adrian/Sydrian edit and it hurt me too much. How did you know the love interest was Sydney? Did I make it obvious with the golden eyes comment? The most painful thing about it is that I can totally see Sydrian being my otp if it weren’t for the R/A history. I don’t know about you but for me, witty banter tends to be my ship kryptonite so maybe that’s why I’m so attached. I’m sure Sydrian has some heart-melting lines (some of which I have actually read) but I NEED a couple that interacts like R/A.

I’m so with you about the obvious thing and Jess/Nick but I actually don’t mind R/D? At least, not in the first four books (and you’re right, they do share a lot of similarities with Bangel). I think my issue lies with their reunion. Dimitri needed to redeem himself to ROSE, not Lissa.

I actually do plan on watching The OC eventually. All I know is that Marissa is like Serena, Summer is like Blair/Cordelia and Summer/Seth are the otp.

I totally understand what you're saying, but I'm defiantly more of a Rose stan than an Adrian stan (still a bit of an Adrian stan though). If I read it, I'll probably end up shipping them eventually but still cry myself to sleep for the rest of my life about r/a. I know your feels, I have a friend who I've decided to stop talking about TV with because she hates every main female character of all her fave shows and It just pisses me off. I have no time for her simplistic Marissa Cooper hate.

WHAT ARE YOU UP TO??? Cause I have a message from you sitting in my inbox where I’m dying to talk about the Rose/Dimitri reunion but I don’t want to spoil you. Speaking of spoilers, do you know who Adrian’s love interest is in Bloodlines? So I can refer to her by name without spoiling you?

I love Adrian but I am so not here for people woobie-fying him in the name of villainising Rose. Ugh, I have so many feelings on Adrian/other love interest like I enjoy them in book 2 but then there’s stuff like where he talks about how beautiful her eyes are and I just don’t like ships that hit me in the face with a shovel. Flirty banter or casual throw-away comment like “I never noticed how pretty your eyes are”? Yes. Big declarations like “WOW I COULD PAINT YOUR EYES THEY’RE LIKE MELTED GOLD” I am not a big fan of and never will be. Normally I wouldn’t make a big deal about it but the fact that these are the kinds of otps that are endgame (Rose/Dimitri etc), it’s like why does true love have to be so dramatic? Rose actually talks about this in the last book, the difference between her feelings for Dimitri and her feelings for Adrian and I got so frustrated with it, I guess the author and I just have different ideas on what love is.

Ahh, Marissa Cooper. I’ve never watched The O.C. though I plan to eventually. I know it’s by the same writers of Gossip Girl so I don’t exactly have high expectations.

I'm up to chapter 24. I think I will read the spin off because I really like Adrian as a character but I want rose x adrian forever :'(

When I first read the last book I thought the ending was too abrupt, like there was no closure with Adrian or the other people he mentioned in the break-up scene. But then I thought it worked because it was told from one person’s point of view and in real life sometimes people drift away from your life and you never really find out what happened to them. BUT THEN I find out about the spin-off and now the ending just seemed contrived like the author used a character as a mouthpiece to advertise all the things that were going to be handled in the spin-off. I’ve read bits and pieces of the spin-off and if you only shipped Rose/Adrian for Adrian’s character then you will probably abandon Rose and ship him with his ~true~ love because she makes him happy/he loves her so much/she makes him a better person/he deserves better!* (I may be a little bitter because I found an Adrian fan whose least favourite character is Rose - my response was literally “why because she hurt your precious bb Adrian and has led such a charmed life?” *eyeroll* Even worse is an Adrian fan who ships him with his new love but doesn’t appreciate her at all with tags like “she’s less annoying in this book” whereas Adrian gets a “bb you say the sweetest things when you’re in love”. So there’s that whole “female character is only there to make my bb male character happy” vibe going on.) I may have only read parts of book 1, 2 and 4 from the spin-off (random I know) so I obviously don’t know the full story (literally) but I automatically feel defensive over female characters. I’m sure I’ll love her once I read it properly. Whether or not I’ll ship her with Adrian…is a more complicated question.

*I don’t mean to imply that you are one of those shippers or that all shippers are like this. I know I must be coming off as really cynical for someone who hasn’t even given the spin-off (or it’s otp) a chance yet but from what I have read, I think I could ship her with Adrian even though they’ll never replace Rose/Adrian in my heart the way they seem to have everyone else. She balances Adrian the way Rose couldn’t and they’re perfect together…but I think that’s kind of the problem? I don’t know how to explain it, everytime I try to I feel like it comes out wrong. I understand if you’ll ship them (I probably will too even as my heart is being ripped in two).

it's not even a thing that was mentioned once and then never spoken about again. ROSE IS NOT WHITE. Interestingly, the main reason I didn't read VA sooner because of the horrible covers. Oops, I'm a little shallow.

Right? It's not like it's just a brief description when we're meeting her for the first time. It's evident when she meets her father. It's evident when Lissa compares her appearance to Rose's.

I've always tried not to judge a book by it's cover but now that I know the covers are actually decided by graphic artists who usually haven’t read the novels, only a ‘snip’ or synopsis of what they are about, I have to constantly remind myself that the cover probably wasn't even the author's idea. You can see it in the reply I tagged you in, Richelle Mead said the model on the Russian covers was pretty much how she envisioned Rose (ie. not the white models on the American covers).
