I believe the root cause of all interpersonal relationship problems is due to the wrong assumptions we make out in our heads about one another and I believe the best remedy to have all the misunderstandings cleared is communication. Bonds get decayed when the exchange of words don't happen at the required level. There are times when silence can do more harm than good and at times like these one needs to really get into an open-hearted conversation. It heals and it really does. A lot of shady matters get clarity and once again the light of love begins to shine forth. So don't just walk away when things get tough. Rather engage yourself into 'talk-it-over-face-to-face' approach. Feelings and emotions are not meant to be suppressed within the heart, they need a vent and when two lovers feel lost for a moment, an open conversation will guide their way back home.
