thinking about donloe and tapeesa really being the way ethan and julia COULD have been if ethan wasn’t so fucked up in the head. donloe trusting tapeesa with getting grace where she needs to go bc they’ve been around each other probably for thirty whole ass years and know the importance of helping young people through the horrors of life.

donloe releasing ethan from another lifetime of horror and guilt bc who does ethan think he is? yeah ethan punked donloe thirty years ago, but it’s donloe who chose to find the positives in being shipped to alaska, fell in love and got married BECAUSE he was no longer tethered to the stringent expectations of being langley’s bitch.

donloe and tapeesa choosing to join the team so Ethan can complete his mission, and then choosing to be the ones who stay behind with the bomb bc they trusted each other as husband and wife to see each other again, even if it’s in death, bc that’s love and devotion in two little old people who understood the value of helping others save lives.

and degas, who was young enough to be tapeesa and donloe’s son, degas choosing to watch their backs and help them disarm the bomb and save their lives, even tho tapeesa and donloe had chosen their fate as a married couple, degas choosing to save them while possibly sacrificing his own life is exactly the situation ethan could have been if he ever trusted anyone enough to help him with julia outside of luther.

ethan, who can never trust another human being to protect julia, forcing julia to protect herself as a ghost.

tapeesa and donloe, who trust each other so much that others are compelled to trust them too, and bc their love is so strong, grace and degas and paris all succeed in their personal missions.

ethan who can never let julia die ever again, even if it means never being with her again, even if it means robbing her of any choice of sacrifice she might ever have.

tapeesa and donloe being comfortable with death bc it’s just another phase in life, and they chose to walk into hell together rather than let the other go alone.

donloe literally being the man ethan could have become if he wasn’t so fucked up in the head!!!
