Another concept turning 50 this year, the Ferrari 308GT Rainbow was designed at Bertone by Marcello Gandini. The boxy wedge-shaped prototype featured a folding targa top similar in design to the one used on the much more recent 458 Spider. Presented at the Turin Motor Show, it was based on the Gandini-designed Dino (later Ferrari) 308 GT4 with a shorter wheelbase and just two seats. Ferrari had already chosen Pininfarina to design the production 308 GTB, so the Rainbow was only ever going to be a one-off.
The 1969 Opel Aero GT was a targa-top concept car showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show, featuring a removable roof panel and an electrically retractable rear window. Based on the production Opel GT, only two prototypes were built
1977 Ferrari 308 GTS Spyder. It was the Targa topped version of the 308 GTB which was introduced in 1975 at the Paris Motor Show as the successor to the Dino 246 GT. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina.
V8 engine (1975-1977) having a 2,926 cc engine producing 255 hp at 7,000 rpm (European models). Torque of 181.0 ft lbs @ 5000 rpm. Later versions introduced fuel injection (308 GTBi/GTSi) and a four-valve-per-cylinder update (Quattrovalvole) in 1982, boosting power back up to 240 bhp for European models. Bolted to a 5-Speed Manual with 0-60 in 7.8 secs and topping off at 158.4 mph.
