Finally opened this cat-themed tarot deck I got! Time for some Louisiana voodoo shit! I thought my friend threw the cards away because she thinks fortune telling cards attract evil spirits. I personally don't mind the company of demons, they keep my mind busy on lonely nights 😈 #blackmagic #blackmagicwoman #thefool #thefooltarot #tarotfool #tarot #tarotcards #fortunetelling #fortunetellingcards #fool #dork #goofy #whiteboy #louisiana #neworleans #voodoo #witchcraft (at New Orleans, Louisiana) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnpFEiSODTg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
The Fool - Tarot 0
Last year I was competing for a job on a tarot deck when the client decided to give priority to the Ukrainian artists that had applied. I had never been so content with a reason to not be chosen for a project; my sketches for the Fool card were now useless but I liked them enough to finish it on my own time. The client had liked he Rider-Waite-Smith deck best so it's mostly a modern reinterpretation of its Fool card, keeping the yellow background and sun, red bag, green jacket with red insides and yellow trousers (that many decks interpret as about to fall down), dog, and white rose. A few happy hours looking at refs of slobering dogs and dozy doves (I don't have a high opinion of doves' intelligence. I blame kids' media). It's also my first proper illustration this year, which is always kind of a milestone to me. Created with Photoshop and Painter.
It is appropriate to start the first post by talking about The Fool. A hopeful spirit venturing off into the unknown with dreams and optimism. Will she venture over the edge and fail or find something new and exciting and she leaves the old life in favor of the new? Only time will tell.
As of now, tarot readings (for entertainment) are open. Reach out to me with a question and let us see what happens.
The Fool - Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot Deck . The whole Fool card is a glyph of the Creative Light which is Dark Energy and unseen by the naked eye. The design of the Thoth Fool card represents many mythological explanations : The Thoth Deck Fool, has the horns of Dionysus Zagreus, and between them is the phallus cone of white light---indicating the influence of Kether-Crown, upon him. His background is Air, drawing from Space and his attitude is that of one bursting unexpectedly on the world. A good simile for Time. He is clad in the Green of Spring and wears the Phallic gold shoes of the Sun. In his right hand is the Wand tipped in a pyramid of white---simulating Kether. In his left hand is the flaming pine-cone, indicating vegetable growth under the same Fiery influence of the White light, as well as the Grecian cone topped Wand of Dionysus-the Thyrsus. From his left shoulder, hangs a bunch of bagged grapes, representing sweetness, fertility and the basis for ecstasy (Ecstasy gave birth to the Universe); shown by the stem of the grapes forming into rainbow hued spirals; The form of the Universe as a collective. Upon this spiral whorl are other attributions of the "godhead"; the vulture of Maut, the dove of Venus (Mari, or Isis) and the sacred ivy of the Devotees of the Green Man. There is also a buttery fly of many-coloured air, a symbol for the Soul and the winged globe with its twin-serpents, which is echoed by the twin infants embracing on the middle spiral. Above is the benediction of three flowers in one (Kether, Chokmah, Binah). The tiger (fear) is fawning unnoticed on his leg. And beneath his feet runs the Nile with lotus stems and a crouching crocodile (Sebek). Unless there are many surrounding cards of a very spiritual nature or the position of the Fool card is thrown into a highly spiritual position in the reading, a more mundane reading of the Fool card is often warranted. #aleistercrowleytarot #aleistercrowley #thefool #thefooltarot #tarotfool #tarotcommunity #tarotreadersofinstagram #tarotwitch #tarottribe #thetarottribe #tarotlover #tarotlovers #tarotlearning #tarotista #thothtarot #thoth #tarotkabbalah #kabbalah #kether #chokmah #Bin https://www.instagram.com/p/BvASjGnHrXj/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=u5t57p25573e
0. The Fool
In its rawest sense the Fool represents pure youthful spontaneity and optimism, coupled with untapped puissance. The Fool is at the very beginning of their journey and so far things are going fabulously. They are oblivious to the challenges ahead and proceed without a care in the world. The Fool exhibits a remarkable faith in the idea that everything will ultimately work out for the best.
The Fool has set out, in the spirit of adventure, without any meaningful preparation. To be honest, I am always reminded of Bilbo running out of Bag End to keep his appointment with the dwarves at the start of the Hobbit. While the Fool has no idea where they will end up, they just can’t refuse the pull of the divine spark within them. Their quest is inevitable.
The Fool tries to teach us that excessive caution leads to stagnation and spontaneity is required for new beginnings. It is all too easy (at least for me) to become mired in endless preparation, awaiting the perfect moment to get started. The Fool proclaims that NOW is always the perfect moment to do any given thing.
For all their innocence, the Fool must have an awareness of their own naivety, why else would they go forth. The Fool is a person who has just woken up, in a spiritual sense, and found themselves asking the greatest of all questions - Why am I here, alive and conscious, slipping through space on a big rock? Surely there is more to life than to eat, to work, to sleep and to die?
In this way the Fool expresses dissatisfaction with the overwhelming mundanity of conventional wisdom. This dissatisfaction it what makes them the Fool. The title is not one they chose for themselves, rather it was bestowed by the sleeping masses of sheeple that the Fool is walking away from.
