The whole subplot in in Empress of Chi/na regarding Wu Meniang just mourning over the old King so BAAAAAAAD when he dies that she..ahem...somehow sleeps with his son and then still denies that for ages on what it means was so funny. Especially since the real history is just SO WELL KNOWN, since it comes with its own poem.

When the real deal was yeeted to the Nunnery, the time period so fresh when everyone was expecting her to mourn her dead husband, she swiftly send an original poem hand written by her to his son instead which prompted him to come to her for that infamous meet up- the one where they saw each other after a year and broke down in sobs.

This is the kind of dedication she was announcing towards her second future husband. That even in a time period dedicated towards her first, she is essentially saying she is wasting away for the son instead!

And that makes so much sense as to why Gaozong would fight for a woman like her, who is not scared or ashamed to declare her emotional loyalty towards him alone ( at the end of the day, he is a Prince and King and they gotta be lowkey egotistical) at a time like this, than whatever dumbass plot the serial did where the Son just keeps chasing this girl while she is crying over her dead, deadbeat husband LMAO?

I mean what is more interesting? Wu Meniang being an aloof but somehow available paragon of beauty over whom nearly every man of age is crushing both old and young? Or a WMQ who says "do hell with proprietary and expectations!" and causes a scandal on her own for the one guy? come on scriptwriter!
