Pacific fanfiction stats

On September 18, 2020, more than 3-1/2 years ago, I put up a post that to this day continues to pop up periodically. I've been meaning to go back and check to see what's changed since then, and I've finally gotten around to it. The gist was this:

Pacific fans, if you’ve ever felt like your favorite pairing is a rarepair, unless your fave is Sledgefu, there’s a reason it feels that way.

So here's the update, with all new stats (the original 9/18/20 stats in strikethrough):

As of 6/2/24 9/18/20, there are 1,482 1,120 stories on AO3 tagged The Pacific. Sledgefu is still far and away the most common pairing, with 875 688 tagged stories. Care to guess the next most common?  See below the photo!

It’s Andy/Eddie, known three years on as Hilldane, with just 205 130.  Here are some more stats - and after looking at them, you’ll know why your favorite Pacific pairing feels rare:

So how about it, Pacific fans?  The juggernaut that is Sledgefu is an overwhelming force, but it sure would be nice to step things up on other fronts. There is so much potential out there.

Robert Leckie

He loves to hold your hand when you dance and sometimes you'll hear him whisper that he loves you. And if you look up and your eyes meet?? Holy hell!! That loving look makes your heart melt every friggin time.

Chuckler Juergens

He likes to get a little bit silly sometimes. He'll spin you around and tilt you back halfway before bringing you back up and planting a kiss on your lips. Just don't ask him about the time you guys re-created Gomez and Morticia's dance at the group Halloween party (lol)

Bill "Hoosier" Smith

This boi is such a freakin gentleman it's ridiculous!! He'll ask if it's ok first and then take your hand but if you're shy, he'll gently coax you until you two are close together, like "no worries hon, I've got you". That kinda thing.

Runner Conley

Just like Chuckler, Runner tends to get a bit silly, but he does have moments where you can feel the intimacy when you slow dance. Sometimes you can hear him softly singing along to whatever song you're dancing to and if you start to feel tears on your neck, all it takes is you running your fingers through his hair to bring him back down to earth.

Sidney Phillips

Oh boy is Sid old school!! Just like Hoosier, he'll always ask first. It's not that he's shy, he's just being polite, but oh does he love the closeness. He gets disappointed sometimes when the song ends because he doesn't want to give you up.

Eugene Sledge

Sometimes he'll pull you in for a kiss when you least suspect it. If the guys are watching some of them will pretend to be shocked while a few have been known to wolf whistle. It's a naughty side of Sledge that brings out the best in the both of you.

Andrew "Ack Ack" Haldane

When you two slow dance it's usually after a hard day. He really loves the feeling when you relax in his arms and just go with it.

Edward "Hillbilly" Jones

Oh he's on it like nobody's business. Hillbilly doesn't hesitate when he hears the music and you two are off like a pair of rockets.

RV Burgin

He likes to rest his head on your shoulder. Sometimes he'll get a little sleepy and you won't know it unless he drools on your shoulder.

Jay De L'Eau

His favorite song to dance to is "Here I am" by Bryan Adams (sorry I friggin love this song!!). It was the first song you danced to at your wedding so it has special meaning for him whenever he hears it and when you dance together it brings him back to that amazing place.

John Basilone

He's a bit of a show off. Sometimes he'll throw in a move when you least suspect it but you can't get enough of it.

JP Morgan

He wants you all to himself, not in a possessive way, but because you're special to him. When you dance together, he doesn't want to let you go because you make him feel alive.

Manny Rodriguez

He'll steal you back from the jerk that tried to cut in. He loves looking into your eyes and if you look down, he'll gently tilt your face up to look at him and let you know that you're loved.

Chuck Tatum

He loves to hug when he slow dances!! (Aaaaaw!!) He loves the closeness and the intimacy of slow dancing which keeps him grounded.

Clifford "Steve" Evanson

He'll get cocky with it at first but once you two get into it a bit, you melt right into him and how protective his arms feel around you.

Robert Leckie as a Dad Headcannons (Leckie x Reader)

Oh lordy lordy, he’d be one of the best dads on the planet

The day that your child is born he hated seeing you in so much pain

Because it reminded him of when he and Hoosier had both been injured

He shed a few tears when your son was born and when he got to hold him, Bob didn’t want to put him down

A few days after you would catch Bob asleep in your bed with your son resting on top of him

And you thought it was the most precious thing in the world

As your son grew he was joined by other siblings

And on weekend mornings when Bob had those days off, your kids would crawl into bed between you two

And Bob would coil his arm protectively around the kids

He’d sigh and laugh every time one of the kids slipped into his old army clothes and traipsed around the house, flapping their little arms in sleeves that were way too big for them

Some nights before dinner he’d catch two of them playing with their Matchbox cars under the kitchen sink (thank God you guys never kept anything under there) 

He makes up stories to tell them before bed and in no time at all they’re completely passed out

If the littlest ones come running into the house all covered in mud he’ll scoop them right up and start littering their cheeks with kisses

Someone is almost always laughing in your house

But Bob loves it anyways

Because it made him forget the horrors he saw during the war

And always reminds him of the life you two built together
