okay but i think the lack of tech skills i was taught as a child and the extreme reliance on them in college is so funny.
in my elementary school, for like 4th and 6th grade we had tech classes in the library and in a separate classroom where we would learn how to find reliable sources, copy and paste, go to websites, and make word docs, powerpoints, and brochures, and how to type. i was only like once a week and the typing classes got cancelled early because supposedly we got good enough so to this day, that's the extent of my knowledge.
my mom has pretty similar tech skills, and i didn't have a laptop till i left for college. however, in college post covid so much of the work is online and we are expected to have tech skills that i simply don't. i always try to do as much of the work as i can on paper because i cannot rely on myself to type fast enough or save my work properly. but paper submissions are being taken by teachers less and less and every older adult around me expects people my age to be extremely well versed in tech.
i don't think older adults fully understand just how much tech skills vary depending on what school district the student is from, what kind of tax bracket they're in, or what the specific culture towards tech their family had. they just kind of move everyone into one mix lump of tech aware young adults.
Canada’s Inuit culture has come to Instagram and Facebook.

Introduction & Tech Access
Hey there,
Welcome to my blog...
My name is Kuan-Ying, Tao, but I would prefer people to call me Kenny.
I am a “Taiwanese”, not a Thai.
Just making sure you all know where is Taiwan, Taiwan is a beautiful island in east asia, beside China.
This is not my first blog, but it is still a challenge for me, because all the thing here is in English.
And the most important thing here is I will need to write in English.
In my point of view, writing is always a nightmare. This is because I am not good at brainstorming ideas and organizing my structure.
Anyway, I will try my best here to organize my thought and present smoothly.
I have just finished my freshman year in Michigan State University with a major of Mechanical Engineering and I think it went pretty well.
I enjoy having my college education and life in MSU. I believe this will be an unforgettable memory and experience in my whole life.
For tech access,
I cannot say I am professional at many softwares like word, excel, powerpoint etc..
but at least I know how to use them.
My favorite thing about computer is that we can do almost everything on it. For example, watch movie, listen to music and surf on internet etc.
In general, I used my laptop everyday and for almost every assignment since I am in college. If there is a scale from 1-10 about how would I rate my comfort level with working online, I will give a 10.
My biggest technology concern about this class is the internet. Sometime the internet in my place is not working very well.
I hope I can improve my writing skills to a level that writing is no more a nightmare for me.
Last question: If I could switch places with someone for one day, who could it be?
I think I will choose to switch with a pilot, because one of my dream is to become a pilot.
[Grassroots Organizations] Grand Street Settlement, Community Tech Center
.@GrandStSttlment #followccu #ccucoalition
Grand Street Settlement is a vital part of the lower east side (LES) community and their work includes providing technology access through the Community Technology Center. The Grand Street Settlement model is focused on all members of the community from young students to seniors and their technology outreach is no exception. CCU champions the work of organizations like Grand Street who provide access to computing facilities and also digital literacy training .
The Community Technology Center is helping address the problem of broadband absorption--one of CCU's advocacy areas, by improving community members familiarity with Internet based resources. The Grad TRAC program, which focuses on teenagers extends training beyond basic familiarity to the broader application of academic success. Project based learning and general computing classes targeted toward seniors and adults provides an amazing service to the community.
Grand Street Settlement's Community Technology Center is one example of a community tackling one of the more serious issues facing our nation: universal access. The LES community benefits from the technological access provided by Grand Street Settlement but additional resources aimed toward infrastructure deployment and affordable service offerings would be an even greater benefit. Grand St. Settlement participants are well positioned to advocate for affordable services for the entire LES community.
Public policy makers know that the elimination of policies that serve as barriers to deployment of communications products and services hinder human capital development and local economic growth opportunities. Like CCU, Grand St. Settlement is taking steps to bring technological access one step closer.
