Purple is kind of a jerk, and I love that.

The most fascinating part of Purple is how despite having a more understandable reason for disliking Red than vise versa, and having a more 'moral' view of the situation, the show never makes you think Red is beyond redemption, nor of Purple as morally pure.

Purple constantly sneaks off from their station to see their pet when their entire job is to just watch camera, they constantly downplay Red's ability to do anything right even when Red proves competent, enable the vote by voting for Red despite there being no evidence side from them being alone; and even when called out on this, they refuse to let it change them, while ironically, Red accepts the influence of Brown and acknowledges that voting each other is futile, since there's no actual evidence of anything.

And like I said, I love this so much. I love how it paints their relationship as so much more than just 'they hurt me and I don't want to get hurt again', even if that's what it is at its core. It also makes how Purple views others more nuanced; they like Cyan because they're emotional and vulnerable, likely how Red was whenever they were interns considering Red's insecure nature. In a way, I feel like Purple blames themselves for things going the way they did.

They've got a strong case of avoidant attachment, where they do care, but struggle to show it. Pair this with Red's insecure attachment, and you have a pair that cares about each other, but untentionally hurts each other. This is likely what spurred Purple into helping Cyan, not wanting to make the same mistake again, not wanting to hurt someone without realizing it.

And then we get into the duo parellels. The Among Us Show has very few healthy instances of duos, like, Brown and Yellow are the only relationship that's really good. But on that note, all duos in the show are in fact, representative of Red and Purple's own relationships.

Purple, like Black, is cold and focused, introverted. They take the charge of the dynamic like Yellow, and are a lot more competent than their partner like Green.

Red meanwhile, is outgoing and friendly, like Cyan, a follower like Brown, and a damned corporate shill like Orange.

Don't have your takeaway from this post be anything but 'Purple is an excellent character', I cannot stress enough that these flaws are good traits that make them trusting Red in the finale all the more potent. Purple acknowledges themselves they aren't perfect, that they aren't really all that great, and that they've made mistakes. But their lesson is to learn to change how things are, instead of being angry about how crappy it is.

So Debby re-released an old song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCpPegRW5WY) (originally released in October of 2016 with The never ending). I think it has some interesting implications. It reminds me of a 'Tyler style romantic song' that people like to claim is soooo romantic, but don't listen to the words of (or how basic/dark it is, cough).

For one, there's A LOT of insecurity (can you see me past my scars, will you love my secondhand heart, can't let you go, at least just love me etc). Then later, "Am I enough to keep me in your life (just cause we're happy)", jesus, Debby. A real parallel to the Craving from the other pov, like it's interesting how THIS is her 'Josh song'. I can't help but wonder, why re-release it now??? Same vibes as the Craving opening with that damn voicenote and Tyler looking tired.

Also kind of shines a light on how Josh 'likes' her stuff, sure, but doesn't really share it (not a repost of the recent ad or this to his story even, unless I missed something). Interesting as always, but the song is just really sad, borderline desperate. Definitely not what I expected from the updated name.

so. okay. if you'll indulge me and allow me to go slightly insane for a moment here:

this and tear in my heart have the same temporal problem. timh was released after tyler and jenna got married, but was almost certainly written in 2013/early 2014 while on tour for vessel, during the beginning of the relationship. timh is non-specific, but it's also kinda cute, indicative of an earlier stage of a relationship, the fact that is was released after the wedding was an artifact of schedules, and was not really anyone's fault.

this song, actually suits its initial temporal placement of 2016, i assume it was written around that time (especially because it was released as a single and not as part of an album or ep) and if we assume josh and debby were possibly restarting their relationship around that time (which we can't know, because they've never said) then it makes sense as an expression of feelings brought on by the beginning of a new-old relationship.

a re-release now, however. gives it the same problem as timh. because it's sweet and understandable as feelings brought on by the start of a relationship, but six years into marriage? a straight up re-release or new recording is one thing. all that means is she liked the song and wanted to update the sound. understandable. normal. ADDING JOSH'S NAME TO THE TITLE THOUGH???

yeah. getting some real craving vibes from this one. yikes.

(edit: that's probably not josh's voice in the beginning booth chatter. that bit is there in the original recording as well. that was a bad assumption on my part, sorry.)
