wait, I don’t understand what this means? TOS are really hard for me to grasp because of the language and large amounts of text, they’re pretty inaccessible to me. I host on Tapastic as well as ComicFury, and hope to self-publish my comic some day.

Well, basically there was this big thing on Twitter earlier where some lawyers warned everyone about a clause in Tapastic’s updated TOS called “Right of First Refusal”. Here’s the link to that thread, it can probably describe it better than I can: https://mobile.twitter.com/mkinyon/status/865184555782811648 From what I could tell, the wording was very vague so nobody really knew if it could apply to self-publishing or merch, so that’s why I was waiting for a clarification, but it still seems kind of a sneaky thing for them to pull without any kind of opt in system. It really is something that should apply more to their premium users only, since they’re the ones that have signed a contract with them in the first place, and that sort of deal would make more sense and allow them to negotiate for a better price. For a free user having to do all of their own legwork to advertise and promote their own stuff, it could be a disadvantage.

HOWEVER I will say that apparently this clause has been removed from the TOS effective immediately according to the Tapas team on the forums, and they’re preparing to announce its removal soon after the backlash it received. So basically this whole thing no longer applies. Whether they revise it has yet to be seen, but it definitely has caused a shitstorm and trust issues with the host. Whether or not you choose to stay is up to you; I don’t see any immediate danger with keeping your comic on there if you want, but it’s definitely always good to keep an eye on things with any host.

As for my own stuff, I’m still not really sure what I’m going to do... I’m not super fond of smackjeeves’ redesign and tendency to place ads directly in the artists’ comments...

Start with a lump of pages as an opening intro, and then regular reliable updates. Make sure you have a hefty buffer in advance, and aim to add to it every week; so like have at least one month buffer prepped before you launch! If you’re posting one page a week, aim to finish two (so you’re increasing your buffer every week, instead of making even) so that if something happens or energy levels drop, you have back up ;u;

I was thinking about that, yes! I guess the only reason I was considering the other option is because I intend to move across the country soon, so I wasn’t sure how much that was going to impact my intended release date... Currently I have a little over a month’s worth of pages finished, but it isn’t past the intro yet. There’s a specific part I want to get to that would be perfect but it may take another... 10 or so pages, just by estimate. (I guess it wouldn’t be a small intro, per se... haha; Though it would be small compared to the rest of the story!)

But yes, ideally, I would like to post the intro first! I definitely want to start posting it up this year either way.

wip game: unfold song comic! 👉👈

This was a 23-page comic that I finished late last year, then promptly let sit on my hard drive for eight months while deadlines + group projects hit me repeatedly in the face (: It's post-reveal, pre-relationship (but visually Marichat), and deals with Adrien grieving Marinette after Ladybug is presumed to be killed in battle. It's readable the way it is, but I'll (eventually) ink it and post it in instalments! (WIP ask game)
