PANEL 1: Hong Meiling on guard, as always, outside the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She's got a fancier dress than usual, showing a lot of leg.

PANEL 2: She crouches.

PANEL 3: She leaps straight upward, a high flying jump kick, striking Seija -- who was flying overhead -- square in the stomach. (Meiling's cap falls off.)

PANEL 4: On the ground, Meiling holds Seija's neck in a leg lock, and easily catches her falling cap in a free hand.

Meiling, grinning, says, "What's this? An intruder on the mansion grounds?"

Seija desperately slaps Meiling's leg, squeaking, "I GIVE! TAP! TAP!"

PANEL 5: Both standing, smiling. Meiling pops her cap onto Seija's head. Seija is blushing deeply.

Seija shouts, "I HATE IT WHEN YOU DO THAT, MEI!"

Meiling says, "New dress? Very cute!" Seija has bare midriff and brand new sneakers.

Seija lies, "I didn't wear it for you!"

Meiling says, "You must like mine, you're not even looking at it."

Seija lies, "As if! Never! Stupid!"

PANEL 6: The two women walk off arm in arm. Seija glances back and says, "You won't get in trouble?"

Meiling says cheerfully, "I got someone to cover. We have till tomorrow."

Flandre Scarlet is her relief. Flandre waves and says, "Have fun, you two!" then immediately turns feral and growls, "NONE SHALL PASS."

Touhou Crack Month 2026

Hello everyone!

I'm running very late for this announcement, I've been rather busy this February. However, February is coming to a close, and with the beginning of March comes another Touhou Crack Month, naturally!

The rules and procedure are the same as last year, but I will state them again for anyone new to them.

What is this event?

This is a month-long AO3/Tumblr jam-like event where artists are given randomly-generated crackships, and have to desperately wrangle with whatever absurdity the RNG has wrought upon them. While this started as a fanfic event, visual art is also welcome! This event is meant to celebrate creativity, originality and adaptability in shipping.

Proceedings

NOTE: given the delay I had in announcing this, late applications are perfectly okay! After March 1st, just fill in the form and I'll generate and send your pairings ASAP.

The event lasts the whole month of March 2026, starting on March 1st at 00:01 and ending on April 1st at midnight (both CET), ideally all works should be published before that deadline (not that it's a huge deal if they aren't). Each participant will receive their pairings on March 1st, each distinct from everyone else's.

You are only expected to make a single fic or artwork, but if you are really determined, nothing stops you from making even more than that, of either kind! There are never enough crackships.

Guide for potential participants (keep reading)

To participate, simply sign up using the form provided at the end of this post. In there, you can select different options to customize your experience. First is a 'difficulty' setting:

Easy: 4 randomly-generated pairings, with one to choose from for your fic.

Normal: 3 pairings.

Hard: 2 pairings.

Lunatic: only 1 pairing, so no choice!

You also have options to exclude some characters, for instance if you know them too little, or if you don't want to make ship content involving them.

For writers

Completed fics are to be published to the official AO3 Touhou Crack Month 2026 collection.

For visual artists

Completed artworks are to be published on Tumblr, under the #thcrackmonth2026 tag.

Eligible pairings

There are some restrictions put on the pairings, both to avoid uncomfortable ones, and to ensure the "crack" in the name isn't cosmetic.

Generally, eligible pairings are those where the two characters have no significant canon dialogue, interactions or strong backstory links (the latter case covers pairings such as Miko/Saki). Generic, one-off fight banter generally doesn't count (especially relevant for playable characters), nor does VS mode-exclusive dialogue (not counted as canon), nor do very brief manga/print work scenes (e.g. the big banquet of Silent Sinner in Blue).

Also excluded will be ships with strong fanon presence despite little canon basis, such as "successive bosses" ships (e.g. Wriggle/Mystia, Doremy/Sagume).

This event is yuri only, so male characters are excluded. Non-humanoid characters are also excluded unless otherwise specified by individual participants.

Note that these rules aren't exhaustive and I may exclude some other pairings in keeping with the general spirit of the rules above.

General rules

No NSFW, no intense depictions of abuse be it sexual or not (e.g. pedophilia, child abuse, etc), no incest (though all such pairings are already ineligible). Beyond that, there is no issue with delving into more mature themes, as long as they are tagged properly.

The last of the set. Not every ship lands happily.

TITLE: Touhou Crack Ship Month 2026, "Winter", shadowjackery.tumblr.com

PANEL 1: A street in the human town; among the people are the Yakumo family, Ran holding a parasol for Lady Yukari. Someone shouts out, "MAE?!"

PANEL 2: The shouter was Orange, a youkai tumbler with a baton and bandana. She runs toward them, saying, "It's me, Orange! Mae, is it really you? I looked for years! Where were you? Did you just get here?"

Yukari takes the parasol, as Ran bends down to instruct Chen. "Chen, guard Lady Yukari while I handle this."

Chen stands tall and salutes. She says, "AYE-AYE!"

PANEL 3: Ran faces Orange, deadly serious. She says, "Mae is not here."

Orange freezes, surprised. "Eh?"

Ran says, "This one is Ran Yakumo."

PANEL 4: Ran looks down at Orange and continues, "But I knew the one you called Mae. I must be truthful with you: She was a liar, a seducer, and a user of anyone who crossed her path. She never thought of anyone but herself. For her, you were simply a temporary amusement, a toy, like many others. You are safer now she is gone. She will not return."

PANEL 5: A shadow falls across Orange's face; she's close to tears. She stutters, "…but… but…"

Ran says, "I am sorry."

PANEL 6: Ran returns to Yukari's side and bows. She says, "My apologies, Lady Yukari."

Yukari passes the parasol back with one hand. With the other, she conceals a smirk with her fan. She says, quietly, "Not at all! I so rarely hear you tell a fib."

Ran mutters back, "I have not."

Orange stands alone, unhearing, her arms wrapped around herself. She stammers, through tears, "…but you… you said we… that I was…"

PANEL 7: Inside the tavern Geidontei. Orange is slumped over the bar, an emptied bottle and drinking bowl beside her. Miyoi wipes a glass and looks upon the girl with sad sympathy.

TITLE: Touhou Crack Ship Month 2026, "Autumn", shadowjackery.tumblr.com

PANEL 1: Kasen, wearing a gardening apron and rubber gloves, with a garden hose and nozzle in her hands. One of her pet eagles, her tiger, and her raijuu are shaking off water; the electrical raijuu is bedraggled and sulky, but the other two frisk happily.

Kasen says cheerfully, "Now, who's next for a bath?"

A large voice says, "ME."

PANEL 2: The large voice came from Yachie, who is currently in dragon-turtle form, the size of a house. Her eyes are bleary, her mane is a mess, and her muddy shell shows multiple blast marks, craters, and slashes.

Giant Yachie says, "I'M HOME."

Kasen shouts, "What in Buddha's name happened?!"

Giant Yachie growls, "A DAY."

PANEL 3: Now in humanoid form, Yachie has wet hair and a towel about herself. She's also wearing a pet collar. She angrily inhales a cigarette.

PANEL 4: She exhales, and stubs out the cig in a can on the floor.

PANEL 5: She topples herself into the bathtub, on top of Kasen, and says, simply, "Pamper me." Kasen makes a heart emoji.

PANEL 6: The two cuddle up in the bath. (Kasen's horns and amputation are visible.) Yachie is tired, tense, and angry; Kasen puts her arm around her.

Yachie finishes her story, "–and then that damned nag Saki goes at me with her full strength. I swear I'm going to strangle that mare."

Kasen says, sympathetic, "That's one reason why I got out of that kind of game."

Yachie says, "Not yet. I still have things I want to accomplish with the Syndicate."

PANEL 7: Kasen says, "As long as you want, Yachie."

Yachie says, with hearts, "Kasen." They kiss.

Just under the wire! It's been a busy month. I actually saw possibility in all of the 'ships I was dealt, so I came up with a piece for each of them... but I haven't finished the others yet. So here's the first, Nazrin/Yatsuhashi, and we'll get the others as I finish them.

PANEL 1: A handpainted sign reads, "MUENZUKA, Danger, Keep Out." Nazrin, a grey mouse woman, ignores it and walks by, whistling. She wields her dowsing rods, has a straw basket hung from her shoulders, wears ski goggles, and has headphones slipped over one ear. The ground is covered with spider lilies.

PANEL 2: Nazrin turns her head and says, "Hello, this one's not a corpse yet!" In the flowers, someone moans, "…ooouuuhhg…my…head…"

PANEL 3: The moaner was Yatsuhashi Tsukumo, apparently a young woman with short hair and short skirt. Her hair and clothes are mussed and rumpled, there are bags under her eyes. Nazrin kneels to pass her a bamboo canteen.

Nazrin: "My dowsing rods indicated a musical instrument, not a drunkard! (This'll help with the hangover.)"

Yatsuhashi: "(Thanks.) It's me, I'm the musical instrument! Sis and I last night turned thirteen! …plus a couple centuries. (Is it true there's no Shogun any more?) Guess I partied too hearty."

Nazrin: "Oho, an artifact spirit? You look pretty good for some old relic. Happy birthday!"

Yatsuhashi: "You should hear me play! When I'm sober, I mean."

PANEL 4: Nazrin stands and waves goodbye cheerily.

Nazrin: "Well, I don't collect corpses, so I'll be off!"

Yatsuhashi: "Wait, give me a chance to pay you back! Where can I find you?"

PANEL 5: Yatsuhashi is blushing, and fidgeting with her fingers. "I mean, cheap wine obviously isn't good for me, so maybe I should try something more mature? Or, um."

PANEL 6: Nazrin crouches down again and leans in close, amused.

Nazrin: "Honey, I'm old enough to be your builder's grandmother, at least."

Yatsuhashi: "Uh, I can spot you free tickets, too! …I haven't a chance here, have I?" She's smiling.

Nazrin: "Maybe if I like the concert."
