something something flemeth/mythal extending her life by possessing the body of her daughters………… (who were all supposedly “willing” according to flemeth)…….. like the archdemon extends its life by jumping into the body of the nearest tainted creature (that doesn’t already have a soul) after its slain? and corypheus did this too? did they learn that trick from her? or is there no connection at all?!?!??

why did solas not expect that corypheus could learn ?!?!!!? how could corypheus possess a warden WITH a soul in what pride had wrought?

ZevWarden week - Death

The ultimate near-death experience!

When the Archdemon died, the energy released from it would knock out Hurme, causing Zevran for a moment to fear the worst.

Soon followed by the realization that they had both survived after all.

CONFESSION:

I always wished there had been a brief cutscene with some dialogue after the Warden sees the archdemon for the first time when they are at the Dead Trenches. I just thought that was an epic moment that deserved some dialogue.

Some angsty thoughts I'm serving up today! Also some spoilery Vigilance thoughts.

Was recently talking about the messiness that is Lyna and Alistair's relationship specifically as it relates to the Dark Ritual, and how they have or have not dealt with it, individually or together. I've gone into how it's affected her in my fic, but I've barely scraped the top of Alistair's thoughts and on the subject, and that's a thing I've planned on addressing soonish because there are triggers lying in wait for them. (I wasn't kidding when I said before there are heavy topics coming up in my fic.)

I was thinking about that on my drive in to work this morning. And it struck me:

Alistair had planned to take the final blow with the Archdemon the whole time. I mean as soon as he heard Riordan deliver the news, he thought, "welp, that's it then" and that was that. Because in the game if you don't opt to do the Dark Ritual and you bring him in your party, he will not let a romanced Warden take out the Archdemon - he gives you no choice in the matter. You have to leave him at the gates to prevent that. Which means he planned to do that all along unless you actively keep him from it.

As if that isn't bad enough, you can have him accept and even kind of look forward to being king if you harden him, but you (or in my case, Lyna) still didn't give him a say in the matter. And in my headcanon, he was similarly convinced by Eamon that as king he had to give up Lyna because of the Warden thing (but funny how that's not an issue in a Cousland relationship, which Eamon can't contradict in public because she's a noble but fuck the elves and mages and dwarves, amirite?) - another situation where, although he goes through with the break-up, he still feels he had no choice in the matter. Though he still loves her.

So given what Riordan tells him, it would almost be a relief to go "welp this is it" because that would solves several things at once for him: no more kingship, Archdemon dead, Lyna gets to live, and he doesn't have to live without her anymore. Explains to me why he's almost oddly cheerful when you approach him later to ask him to do the Dark Ritual.

Except now the love of your life is telling you there is a guaranteed way to keep her from dying on the battlefield. You living through it too may not be the best news in addition to it, but though you planned to be the Archdemon's demise, you know things never go as planned on the battlefield - Loghain's betrayal leading to Duncan's and Cailan's death taught you that all too well.

Best make damn sure. Oh look, here's that "I don't feel like I have a choice" feeling yet again.

So yeah, Alistair has some very complex and angry feelings about the Dark Ritual aside from the expected pain coming from coersive intercourse. :) :) :)
