ok so I was in the wiki page of The Baroness and like. I don't think this woman was ever real actually.

(Anyways correct me if I say something wrong cause I'm basing this on the wiki info and I may forget some details from the game)

Supposelly she was there during the Orlesian occupation of Ferelden, but they don't mention wich one

It also invaded Ferelden on two separate occasions, once in 4:80 Black and again in 8:24 Blessed. Whilst the first invasion of Ferelden saw the Orlesians expelled after only three years, the second invasion proved more successful.

Her story is that there was a dragon near a villane, an Orlesian Nameless Mage went there like "Orlais sent me to protect and rule you", and she alone killed the dragon with blood magic. Everyone was happy with her and made her the ruler, and she was mega evil and used young women to be always young. She even has in her "diary" the line "Orlais must not see me as a failure" and in her other entry she says she is a Baroness of Orlais.

Anyways this story feels like bullshit for several reasons. 1) Why doesn't she have a name being a baroness of Orlais? There should be records of such a person. It doesn't make sense for Orlais to send one (1) mage or one (1) baroness without even one a single bodyguard or army to conquer any part of Ferelden. 2) If she is lying and pretending to be one, she wouldn't need to write that in her own private journal? And why she keeps insisting she is a Baroness but not even say her own name. If we know something of Orlesians is that they love to say their name over and over again. And even super minor characters in dragon age are named. But not her.

Anyways this whole story feels like a scary story ferelden parents would tell their kids because it feels 100% like a fairy tale to say "never trust a mage not even if they are heroic. they will conquer your village and bathe in the blood of the virgins". A scary story to explain this:

The Blackmarsh was not always this way. Once, many years ago, there was a village, bustling with people. Boats and ships arrived daily at the small port. And then, one day, it all went away. The few brave souls who ventured into the marsh to discover the villagers' fate found burned ruins and no sign of life. As the years passed, sightings of strange creatures and eerie lights in the marsh fueled belief that the Blackmarsh was haunted, and that all who valued their lives would do well to stay away.

SO MY THEORY is that indeed some veil bullshit was happening in the Blackmarsh. And the fear of mages + orlesians in the place would create legends like that. Maybe even a folktale in the village. And the spirits, copying legends from the humans, would make it a reality in the fade. So as Cole is a spirit of compassion who "became" a bit like the real Cole. The Baroness is a demon of Pride who became the legend of the Baroness. Maybe there was some true to this story, but the spirits of the veil and the legends told got so twisted it became this.
