The Bluejay
Inkheart trilogy: "This guy is known as The Bluejay. That guy is called the Barn Owl. Oh don't forget that cringey firebender named Sootbird. And then we have an old angry grandma called The Magpie who can turns into a bird. In conclusion Resa and his child can shapeshift into a bird too cause idk why the writer had a powerfull kink for birds. Enjoy."
Me, an intellectual:
Bluejay!Mo things I love:
he's known as a formidable fighter and killer but simultaneously for being soft-hearted and innocent, what a weird interesting dissonance
high-minded and selfless but not a goody two-shoes which is refreshing, esp for a father figure - reckless, obstinate, sometimes violent and temperamental
he has the magical ability to function on basically no sleep, his physical endurance must be insane
his habit of drawing his sword “very slowly", idk that's just cool
he’s not comfortable hogging credit from anyone that’s helped out
he immediately became besties with the Black Prince, the Best Robber
everyone making him flash his arm scar like it's photo ID
how fuckin angry he gets re: assholes like Orpheus, Snapper, Sootbird, etc and "minor" cruelties like the pillories or the Adder killing fairies and bookbinders
his bloodlust is intense and scary
him realizing he's actually not humble or servile at all
his sign is a pen AND a sword
how hilariously little self-preservation he has if there's books or children on the line, then is immediately like ”I immensely regret this”
Death and the White Women know him personally wtf that is so metal
~soulmates~ with Dustfinger
he's just badass as fuck, and the all-black outfit + blue jay feathers aesthetic is really something
Bluejay!Mo thing I don't love:
I know the shit he's going through is unreal but please be kinder to Resa :(
Mewjay
Meggie, Mo, and the Bluejay for the Inkheart Asks pls?
Thank you for the asks 😊
Meggie: Who are your top 3 favorite characters?
The Black Prince, Baptista and either Meggie or Elinor🤔🤔
Mo: What is your favorite part in the books?
Beware, SPOILERS!!
My favorite part is in Inkdeath the when they have to flee the Milksop and go to the Tree with the Human Nests ♥♥
Especially when the Giant comes to their rescue…. So beautiful!!! (Even with all the dangerous stuff happening)
The Bluejay: What is your favorite quote?
As said in my answer to softabomination, I can’t decide on one quote so I will answer this time with another quote than the one I gave previously 😇
Here it is, Baptista introducing us (the reader) to the Bluejay in the Secret Camp (chapter 14 of Inkspell - again):
“The songs give a detailed description of him, though.”, Sootbird gave Fenoglio a searching look. “So they do!”, Baptista leaped to his feet, put his hand to his shabby belt as if he wore a sword there, and peered around as if looking for an enemy. “He’s said to be tall. That’s no surprise. Heroes usually are.”, Baptista began prowling up and down on tiptoe. “His hair,”, he said, stroking his own head, “is dark, dark as moleskin, if were to believe the songs. Now, that’s unusual. Most heroes have golden hair, whatever you take golden hair to look like. We know nothing about his origins, but one thing’s for sure”, and here Baptista assumed a haughty expression, “none but the purest princely blood flows in his veins. How else would he be so brave and noble?” “No, you’re wrong there!”, Fenoglio interrupted him. “The Bluejay is a man of the people. What kind of a robber gets born in a castle?”. “You heard the poet!”, Baptista looked as if he were wiping the haughtiness right away from his brow with his hand. The other men laughed. “So lets get to the face behind the feathered mask.”, Baptista ran his fingers over his own ruined face. “Of course hes handsome and distinguished and pale as ivory! The songs don’t say so, but we know that a heros skin is pale. With due respect, Your Highness!”, he added, bowing mockingly to the Black Prince. “Oh, don’t mind me! I’ve no objection!”, was all the Prince said, his expression unchanged.
And another quote that I love very much (that I have to add because I really can’t decide - sorry not sorry🙃). It’s from a later point in Inkdeath - so I should probably warn you that this could include some kind of SPOILERS:
“The White Women leave silence behind them, Prince, not words.“ "Silence?”, the Black Prince laughed, and embraced him. “What are you talking about? They’ve left joy behind, pure joy! And hope, hope again at last! I feel younger than I’ve felt for years! As if I could tear up trees by the rootswell, maybe not that beech, but many others. By this evening, everyone will be singing that the Bluejay fears Death so little that he seeks it out, and the Piper will tear the silver nose off his face in a rage…”
Thank you again for the asks^^
From this ask game
The Bluejay, the bookbinder, the legend
Im rereading inkspell because I am. And Mo being like ”it’s okay Resa. I am the only one of us who haven’t gone to the inkworld, I’ll be fine.”
Little did he know the rest of the story can be summarized with ”Mo gets even MORE trauma and it’s WORSE this time”
